Sometimes the names of objects are deeply misleading. For example, starfish are not actually fish. They are, in fact, echinoderms. And guinea pigs are not related to pigs in any way – they are rodents. Similarly, planetary nebulas have nothing to do with planets. They were misnamed when scientists looked through small telescopes in the 19th century and thought these objects looked like planets.

AudioBlog: A UFO and Humanoid in Vilvoorde, Belgium





In 1973, there was a worldwide wave of UFO associated humanoid encounters.

One report that stands out came from the city of Vilvoorde in Belgium. It was investigated by the Societé Belge d’Etude des Phénomènes Spatiaux, and an article describing the reported encounter written by Jean-Luc Vertongen appears in the SOBEPS journal, Inforespace No. 18, 1974. It was translated by Gordon Creighton and included in Flying Saucer Review, Vol. 20, No. 6.

At around 2:00 a.m. one morning in mid-December 1973, a Mr. “V. M.” was moving through his darkened house using a flashlight so as not to wake his sleeping wife. He was headed towards the toilet in the yard next to his kitchen when he noticed a noise like a shovel hitting the ground and saw a green glow on the edge of one of the kitchen window curtains.





The witness went to the window, opened the curtains, and saw a creature in front of the wall on the other side of the yard. According to the witness’s description, the creature had a green glow about it from head to foot and was a little over one meter tall. It was wearing what looked like a space suit, and was waving a device that looked like a vacuum cleaner or metal detector over some brick pieces that the witness had piled up earlier. The glow came from the creature’s suit, which the witness described as looking like the metallic tinged polyester used for the upholstery on “buggy” type vehicles ...

NASA celebrates the life and career of Nichelle Nichols, famous for her role of Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek, as she retires from public life. Not only did Nichols portray a character that was an incredible role model, but in 1977, she also partnered with NASA to recruit minority and female personnel for the space agency's shuttle program. Nichols symbolized to so many what was possible and inspired young minds to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers.

Debashish Banerji, PhD, is Haridas Chaudhuri Professor of Indian Philosophies and Cultures and Chairman of the East West Psychology Department at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. He is author of Seven Quartets of Becoming: A Transformative Yoga Psychology Based on the Diaries of Sri Aurobindo, The Alternate Nation of Abanindranath Tagore, a book about his great grandfather, and an anthology about his great uncle, Rabindranath Tagore in the Twenty-First Century. With Robert McDermott, he has coedited an anthology titled Philo-Sophia: Wisdom Goddess Traditions.

Here he points out that artifacts relating to the worship of the mother goddess are found throughout the world, going back as far as 40,000 years. Such traditions are associated with the earth, with the wisdom of the body, with magic, and with equality of the sexes. Over time, the emphasis has shifted to the masculine deities, resulting in the egoic development of humanity. Presently we are witnessing a global renewal of goddess traditions.

Although the tale of Petrus and Catherine Gonsalvus isn't the single inspiration of the tale – it has much deeper folkloric roots than that – its optics match those of the fictional couple.

Pac-Man-Shaped Blobs – World's First Self-Replicating Biological Robots

These bio-bots are made from frog cells





The tiny bots are made from the skin cells of frogs, but they don't reproduce by mitosis or meiosis or any of the other ways cells divide and replicate in normal circumstances. Instead, they build more of themselves from raw materials — free-floating frog skin cells — creating multiple generations of nearly identical organisms. 

In action, the bots (dubbed "xenobots" by their inventors), even look like Pac-Man. They move in wild corkscrews and spirals, their open "mouths" scooping the free-floating skin cells into piles. The cells tend to adhere, or stick together, once put in contact with one another, so these piles gradually meld into new, spiraling xenobots. 

Though this self-replication is a fairly delicate process, so far possible only in a carefully controlled lab dish, researchers hope it offers new promise for biologically based robots.
