Whitley Strieber goes with his family and some friends to his holiday home in the forest. They experience some weird occurances, are they UFO activity? Whitley is abducted and then faces a horrible dilema; was I abducted or am I going mad? He sees a psychiatrist who tries to use hypnotic regression to discover the truth.

Whitley's debut book was The Wolfen in 1978. It was later made into a movie called Wolfen in 1981. Kerry Cassidy said she was an extra in that movie, but that information didn't appear in her book Rebel Gene.

When I saw the Wolfen movie back in the early 80s (I have only read Strieber’s ”Communion“ and a few of his post-Communion books), I somehow “knew” that this story was an expression/externalisation of screen memories. Which is odd, because normally I am very sceptical of adaptations of literature to the screen. In this case I was convinced – without having read the book – that the movie represented very well the book’s story... The movie not only triggered this certainty about Strieber but also “strange recollections” of events in my childhood. Maybe because of this it appeared to me as if the movie itself was an additional screen memory to Strieber’s original screen memory – and the fact that I had this impression or somehow "captured" the fact that it had been one "proved" to me how strong the original experience was: for Strieber to write a book inspired by it, for a movie-maker to be sufficiently impressed by the story to bring it to the screen, and for an average movie-viewer who rarely watches film to get these impressions. As far as I read his works, I do not think Strieber later went on a discovery trip regarding the Wolfen, but may the readers among the members who do recollect him connecting the Wolfen to the Visitors in one of his books correct me. If that is the case, I would appreciate to know in which book(s] he refers to such a connection.
