Default What is your spirit animal?

I've always been interested in animals and I've also always wondered that what kind of animal characteristics I have so I finally decided to find out.

Here is a lighthearted quiz where you can find your spirit/power animal:
    http://www.jerismithready.com/quiz/

So, what kind of an animal are you?

My spirit animal seems to be swan. Holy cow, the description fits me perfectly!

Quote You are a Swan! (your score: 26)

Characters: Tereus, Kalia in the Aspect of Crow trilogy

Powers: Foretelling future through dreams, dream-walking

Swans are idealistic, open-minded, and passionate. Your good nature often leads people to think they can take advantage of you, but they should be careful—beneath that serenity lies a fighting spirit. Your love is fierce and unconditional, fueled by the certainty that it should last forever.

    Best matches: Wolves, Horses, Otters

Watch out for: Cougars, Foxes, Hawks

You can look up your animal sign at the link below

The important aspect of the ancient Chinese calendar is the zodiac animals that are assigned to each year. Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality.

That was fun! I too am a swan, which pleases me. As the old saying says--- nice and calm and serene on the surface, but paddling furiously under the water. I had the wolf second. I was a bit taken aback when I saw 'wolf' but the explanation stressed family and small supportive friendship groups, and that's me too.

I already knew I am a dragon! Which I also like because I was born in Wales!

I had the wolf as a second option too, but the characteristics didn't really fit me except for the part that I'm a lone wolf.

Default Re: What is your spirit animal?

I don't need to take a quiz, because I met my spirit animal. It's a giant black cobra. Well, it can change sizes at will, but it first appeared to me as being giant....about 7 ft tall. Anyway, I'll tell the story.

I once read a book by this guy Alberto Villoldo about his experiences in the Amazon in Peru studying under a shaman. I noticed that he was appearing somewhere to give a talk, so I went. At the end of his talk, he said he was going to lead the audience (of about 400 people) in a visualization designed to allow you to meet your spirit animal. I was game to try it, but was skeptical that I would get any results. But I was wrong.

He started by dimming the lights and playing some percussive music with chanting and he burned incense of some kind. As this was going on, we were supposed to get into a meditative type of mindset. Then he started the instructions for the visualization. I remember every part of it, so you can try it if you want.

First you visualize your consciousness going into the Earth. Once you are deep in the Earth, you visualize that you find an underground stream. The stream is flowing with very cold and pure water. You go into the water and it purifies you. After you are purified, you go with the current of this underground stream, and it takes you even deeper into the Earth.

You visualize that the stream empties into a giant cavern where there is a big underground lake, which is where you end up. You swim to the shore of this lake and walk along the shore. Somewhere along the shore you will meet some aspect of yourself. We were told this can take many forms, but whatever you find there will be it. (In my case it was myself as a little boy.) Then you ask this aspect of yourself if you can meet your spirit animal.

Shortly after I asked this, a giant black cobra emerged from the lake quickly. It scared the bejeezus out of me, because I knew it was not something I had contrived. I visualized the setting, that's all. It came right up to me and circled me over and over again in a counterclockwise fashion. Like I said, it was 7 ft tall, so it towered over me. It moved fast and appeared to me sort of choppy like when you fast forward video slightly over the normal playing speed.

Then Alberto Villoldo said we could ask this animal to come into our body and return to the surface with us to be a protector. This I kind of balked at, but I decided, what the hell. I'm not going to let cultural conditioning and irrational fear hold me back from a possibly beneficial experience. So I did that. And it went into me. Then we were told to visualize ourselves going back up the underground stream, back the way we came. We bathe more in the stream, purifying ourselves again, then we visualize our consciousness returning to the surface to where we were sitting. Then we just sort of sat quietly for a bit.

After the the event concluded, I don't think I had recognized the significance of what happened during the visualization. For days afterward, I noticed I would have this sensation of an energetic presence in my stomach/abdomen area, very much like a cobra that would raise up anytime any negative emotions came to threaten my state of mind, as if it was going to strike and inject it's deadly venom into anything threatening me. LOL. As you can imagine, this was somewhat unnerving. I thought at first maybe it was my imagination, but the sensations I was feeling were persistent and I couldn't deny it.

This went on for three days. Eventually, I became really weirded out by the presence of a cobra in my belly and so I did a little visualization to release it. I said, "Whatever this is, I appreciate it, but I am not ready for this. Could you please leave now?" And I visualized it leaving my body and floating away and it disappeared. After that, everything went back to normal.

I want to stress that there was nothing negative about this experience, it was positive. I just didn't know how to deal with it. For those who would warn me about inviting a snake into my body, I would say, "Come on, don't be a wuss." I refuse to live my life being afraid of my own shadow. You might want to try it sometime. Or you can take the quiz, I guess. ;-)

Thanks, that was fun. I am equally spider and owl.

Many moons ago I participated in a ceremony that involved several days of fasting and much meditating. I met my animal spirit, the buffalo. Hard-headed and determined, once I start after something, I pretty much can't be stopped.

I came out as a crow! A little ominous but rather clever and beautiful!

When I did a shamanic dream workshop as part of my degree I was guided by an ant the size of a horse (or maybe I was very small!)

A friend of ours from Colombia who is an actual Shaman, performed a fireside ceremony one night for us while staying in cabins out in the woods a few years back. She spent the day carefully constructing the circle from sizeable river stones, created home made rattles, the whole nine yards. It was really cool, only thing missing was the Peyote. At the end, with everyone in a meditative state, she invited us to meet our spirit animal.

This was back before I knew any of the stuff we talk about here, so I was quite surprised when a vision of a huge bounding wolf came right up.

Far as the quiz went? The wolverine.

Characters: Rhia, Coranna, Damen in the Aspect of Crow trilogy; John in "The Wild's Call"

Powers: foreseeing death, communicating with the dead, resurrection
As a Crow, you are analytical, adaptable, and exceedingly clever. You like solving problems, sharing a hearty laugh with friends, and most of all, enjoying a good meal.
