British lawyers, activists seek to dismantle racist, anti-Semitic YouTube alternative website

BitChute, promoted as a “free speech” alternative to YouTube, has become a safe haven for neo-Nazis, hosting racist, violent and anti-Semitic videos that are later posted on social media.

Google Play banned the third-party app BitChute this week, which was promoted as a “free speech” alternative to YouTube that has become a safe haven for neo-Nazis, hosting racist, violent and anti-Semitic videos that are later posted on social media.

Google suspended the app, stating that it is in violation of its affiliate spam policy, although BitChute denies this claim, tweeting a photo of Google’s notification.

Although, according to the thread commentary, Bitchute is now back 'up' and that both they and 4chan were down at any point tonight of all nights just seems to add fuel to the election meddling by technocrats narrative:

Noted, by me just now: apologies, just caught up on the thread - this appears superfluous.

Keri Smith (the former Social Justice Warrior with an Avalon thread about her here) and Carter Laren of Unsafe Space, whom I follow and who are entertaining, articulate, honest, brave, aware and very very smart, have been banned from YouTube for seven days.

Their broadcast about this is live right now on their backup channel, here.

Dark Journalist, Joseph Farrell, and Catherine Fitts may be next. Chris Martenson, too. I'm very glad we have all our own backup arrangements in place. Yesterday, I downloaded all 11,000+ Avalon members' email addresses, just in case, and archived them — easy to do. Who knows what might be coming next year.

It's been a little dispiriting to see how many people aren't bothered by the growing online censorship as long as it accords with their own political viewpoint.

Just for the record, I want to dump this little pile of facts in a corner here somewhere. It's kinda internet but mainly old school media.

    "fighting the spread of misinformation,"

    BBC
    NBC
    Al Jazeera
    ProPublica
    National Journal
    The Guardian
    Univision
    Medium
    The Financial Times
    The Atlantic
    The Texas Tribune
    Gannett
    Washington Monthly
    Le Monde
    The Center for Investigative Reporting

They shared in $250 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the first half of 2020.

Seeing the Guardian in the list confirms why I didn't trust the photo they published of a massive queue of cars waiting to get to a food bank in somewhere like Texas.

Twitter names famed hacker 'Mudge' as head of security
By Joseph Menn | 4 MIN READ

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Social media giant Twitter TWTR.N Inc, under increased threat of regulation and plagued by serious security breaches, is appointing one of the world's best-regarded hackers to tackle everything from engineering missteps to misinformation.

The company on Monday named Peiter Zatko, widely known by his hacker handle Mudge, to the new position of head of security, giving him a broad mandate to recommend changes in structure and practices. Zatko answers to CEO Jack Dorsey and is expected to take over management of key security functions after a 45- to 60-day review.

In an exclusive interview, Zatko said he will examine “information security, site integrity, physical security, platform integrity -- which starts to touch on abuse and manipulation of the platform -- and engineering.”

Zatko most recently oversaw security at the electronic payments unicorn Stripe. Before that, he worked on special projects at Google and oversaw handing out grants for projects on cybersecurity at the Pentagon’s famed Defense Advanced Research and Projects Agency (DARPA).

Zatko's colorful career began in the 1990s, when he simultaneously conducted classified work for a government contractor and was among the leaders of Cult of the Dead Cow, a hacking group notorious for releasing Windows hacking tools in order to goad Microsoft into improving security. reut.rs/2IxWD3Q

“I don’t know if anyone can fix Twitter’s security, but he’d be at the top of my list,” said Dan Kaufman, who supervised Zatko at DARPA and now leads the advanced products group at Google.

Twitter faces numerous security challenges. A year ago, the U.S. government accused two men of spying for Saudi Arabia when they worked at Twitter years earlier, saying that they passed along private information about the kingdom's critics. here

In July, a group of young hackers tricked employees and won access to internal tools, which let them change account settings and then tweet from the accounts of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk. here.

“The data breach this summer was an important reminder of how far Twitter needs to go in building some of the basic security functions necessary to run a service targeted by adversaries much more skilled than the teenagers arrested for that incident,” said Alex Stamos, a former Facebook chief security officer and current Stanford researcher who has helped lead efforts to fight election disinformation.

Stamos, who once worked for Zatko’s security consultancy, called him a great fit for a company lacking the financial muscle of Facebook and Google. “They are going to have to find creative solutions to these problems, and if Mudge is famous for anything in security, it is being creative.”

Zatko said he was committed to improving public conversations on Twitter. He praised a recent move to increase “friction” by prompting users to comment instead of simply retweeting; a next step could be to force people to understand a long conversation before participating in it, he said.

Zatko said he appreciated Twitter’s openness to unconventional security approaches, such as his proposal for confusing bad actors by manipulating the data they receive from Twitter about how people interact with their posts.

“They are willing to take some risks,” Zatko said of his new employer. “With the challenges of algorithms and algorithmic bias, they are not standing by and waiting until someone else solves the problem.”

Bannon's war room removed from Spotify

    Natalie Winters The National Pulse
    Mon, 16 Nov 2020 00:01 UTC

War Room's hundreds of episodes no longer appear on the popular streaming platform - the latest big tech company to crack down on the podcast featuring former White House Chief Strategist Bannon, National Pulse Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam, and Jack Maxey.

This comes as the show doubled down on its effort to expose the left's attempts to steal the 2020 election from President Trump.

Now, the show can still be accessed on Rumble, YouTube, and the Podcast App.

Natalie Winters is a Senior Reporter at the National Pulse and producer of The National Pulse TV show.
SOTT Comment: It sounds similar to the ongoing issues Joe Rogan is having with the platform. Rogan seems from the outside to be able to continue with his show unhindered. But Bannon, lacking the same massive audience, probably doesn't have the same pull, so he's canned.

Quote youtube-dl is/was a very popular open source project which was taken down by GitHub on a DMCA request yesterday (Oct 23). Let's see what happened and why
what a shame! fortunately `youtube-dl` is distributed with many Linux distros and it is available in their own repositories, I am using it to download this video and it works very well.

    Code:
    [youtube] DVkhHax6d9s: Downloading webpage
    [download] Destination: youtube-dl is cancelled-DVkhHax6d9s.f308.webm
    [download] 100% of 63.20MiB in 01:19
    [download] Destination: youtube-dl is cancelled-DVkhHax6d9s.f251.webm
    [download] 100% of 4.92MiB in 00:11
[ffmpeg] Merging formats into "youtube-dl is cancelled-DVkhHax6d9s.webm"
Deleting original file youtube-dl is cancelled-DVkhHax6d9s.f308.webm (pass -k to keep)

There is an ongoing attack on open source code for quite a while now, these bastards want to alter our perception at all cost, then they can impose their stupid reality.

Use as much as you can open source software, boycott the corporate world, stop using windows is a great start, and if possible only use GNU programs, they are 100% free and open source, no tricks, no bull****.

    [EDIT]
The use of P2P protocol in video platforms is on the rise, I've seem a few websites using PeerTube https://joinpeertube.org/, I never played with it, then I can't tell how easy it is to get it to work, but I guess it involves some costs..
I am using Tox https://tox.chat for communication for many years now, despite some problems with the program, in average it is good p2p messenger that can be proxified via Tor network or any other proxy one might be using, it is very hard to shutdown all its nodes (they use distributed hash table the same tech used with torrents to help find other peers), and anyone can contribute becoming a peer, Tox is a humble project, some says it is the ugly duck of all Apps available today.. I personally like because it does not ask personal info in order to use it, unlikely Signal, WhatsApp and others..
