it is a beautiful saturday afternoon here in pennsylvania. i hope it is lovely where you all are too. this being the 'memorial day' weekend here in the united states i thought it appropriate to remark upon our soldiers that are serving here and abroad. to my brother, tony, and too all those who are risking their lives for this very day.

"An army of principles can penetrate where an army of soldiers cannot."
    -Thomas Paine, English writer (1737-1809)

"Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death."
-Sun Tzo, Chinese general and author (544-496 bc)

I know its an old one, but how right it is, and still is today.
"Beware of the leader who bangs of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.

"And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind is closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and do it gladly so. "How do I know? I know for this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." --Julius Caesar.

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
