Default Have you ever seen or felt the presence of the dead?

I was visiting family the other day and distinctly felt the presence of my mom. It was very nice and I could feel she was happy.

What are your experiences? If you don't mind sharing.
Blessed Be to You and Me.

I lost a good friend in high school and was so shocked I remember laying in bed in a kind of daze, shocked really about the fact that death is real more than anything else. But I had a dream after not too long sitting next to my friend watching a beautiful sunset or rainbow, and was filled with peace that has stayed with me long after.

Another experience was when this uplifting song came on the radio with lyrics of "look to the sky, we never say goodbye," that I have never heard before or since, but was 6 months after my granddad joined his wife in another world. It was one event in a serious of powerful synchronicities, and was accompanied with a very real love and awareness of both of them. Fun stuff that sure takes the bite out of death!

I think our loved ones are more likely to visit when we're reunited with family, but of course it's possible to connect whenever!

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

    • My husband died at 35 and I was 33. One of my sisters had a dream in which she was passing a telephone booth on a street. It was ringing and nobody was nearby expecting a call so she picked it up. It was my deceased husband who said he was trying to reach me but couldn't, so he was trying my sister who passed on her dream conversation with him to me!!!!

    • The same dreaming sister dreamed of our deceased father and he was hanging out with his buddies from WWII around his plane (he was the pilot) and he sure looked happy and she passed this on to our mother.

    • My mother who wasn't into this kind of stuff, had a "visit" from dad who didn't stay long. The experience rattled her and yet she was so sad because he didn't stay long. I was able to explain to her that not everyone who passes on can manage such a contact in less than six months as they are trying to adjust to their new reality. Instead of being so sad that he didn't stay long, she should be happy because it proved how much he loved her that he tried so hard to reach her.

When my dog died about five years after my husband, I reached out to my deceased husband who came through as a visual image without words. I asked him to take care of my dog; she appeared and they scampered off together. I watched them and thought how he hadn't even waved to me. He turned and waved.

Wow...those all sound like proper experiences, grannyfranny.

Last year, I woke up out of a deep sleep to the distinctive smell of ladies perfume the kind my grandmother or older aunts would wear. I couldn't tell if it was my relative, but I wasn't scared or freaked out at all. I was very calm and kinda curious. The couple who sold us our house 15 years ago let us know her sister passed on in the living room after a battle with cancer. She died with her loved ones near at her sisters home. So maybe it was her ? I don't know either way it was a cool experience.

Yeah, Mum's earth entrance date just went by in Aug. I feel both parents especially when other family or I am down in the dumps or facing difficulties, but that's not "all" I feel around me.

About ten years ago a co worker died. I was in my kitchen a couple of days later when I felt her presence and out of corner of my eye I saw her as a column of gold light. I knew it was her and she was saying goodbye. She was at peace.
Blessed Be to You and Me.

I felt my cat after he died. We were very close, my cat and I, and one night, after he died, I was laying in bed reading, and I felt him jump up on the bed. I actually saw the mattress sag in the size and shape it would have been if he had jumped up on the bed in his physical body.

Almost everyone I've known who has made the transition, has visited me at one point or another.

The ones who were dear to me, visit on a regular basis. I don't mean that they visit often, but time and again.

Some visit when I'm in distress. Others visit around the time of their passing, simply to remind me that they remember.

I have even been visited by the ones who were extremely problematic and harmful while they lived in the bodies. Those, I usually send away since they have no apologies. It seems that their personalities remain the same after they pass, and whatever prejudices they had before, they continue to have.

It is, however, a very rewarding experience when someone one liked or loved presents themselves. One such visit from a dear friend, encouraged me to write a book, on which I am currently working.

Most of the time, loved ones visit just to remind one that they have not left, only their bodies have left, and their intent is usually to provide comfort and love. Occasionally, they visit to present a warning of some kind.

Many of these beings are unable to express what they wish to communicate. It is, therefore, up to the visited to discern what they mean as sometimes they present symbols, the meaning of which can be confusing.

The last of such visits was from someone who visits now and then. He committed suicide and was unable to come through for many years. But since he has been able to come through, his message is usually one of apology for causing so much distress with his actions. I, of course, have forgiven him.

I've also been visited by beings I did not know. Some of these can be quite disruptive and simply sending them away is not enough. But they usually understand when one talks to them without judgment and releases them with love.

If a loved one who has passed visits and you wish to know more, encourage them by welcoming them and talking to them as you did when they were in the body. This establishes a communication between you which can be very rewarding. At least, I find it rewarding to have such communications.

Also, I have been visited by cats that have passed. Although cats can't say much, they do cuddle up to you and give you love. I know someone who used to be visited by her dog every night before she went to bed.

The spirit world is very active. Of course, I do not know the workings of it since there is so much darkness in the astral world. But I do trust the ones I knew and loved.

    Fascinating.

I would break down in tears if my beloved mutt Duffy came to me one final time, ....every night ? I don't know what kind of crying that would produce! Hysterical comes to mind.

I have some serious bonds with certain dogs and cats, birds and so on. I hold the memories and connection Ive made with them very dear, even now Im crying just thinking about them.

Note to self: get a grip girl...

The day after my husband died, I went into our bedroom and smelled the strong odor of diesel fumes. I assumed something was tracked into the house from the garage where his beloved blue Mercedes diesel car was parked. It then hit me-oh yeh, it's him. Such a funny thing to happen. Just like him to pull a joke on me. (he was a jokester) Most people smell the lovely odors of perfume but he knew I'd recognize this smell as belonging to him.

You reminded me of my cat George. A few weeks after he passed I felt him jump up on the bed, walk up the side of my body to my chest and curl up in a ball right inside my heart. That is the best way I can describe it.
Blessed Be to You and Me.

I had a very startling experience, though it was funny too.
Back in the late 60s, I was living near Temple University in Philadelphia, and one day I stopped by a friend's place, a student who was sharing digs with a few other guys in an old building in my neighborhood that had been converted into flats.
They had been living there for a few years, but it was my first time visiting that particular flat.
Everyone was just sitting around, talking, drinking beer and smoking a joint.
I excused myself to use the bathroom, and while I was washing my hands, I checked my hair in the mirror over the sink.
An apparition of an angry old man's face appeared in the mirror suddenly, though no one else was in the room.
But not really--it was actually in my mind's eye that he appeared, but when I turned around, I didn't see him, only when I was looking into the mirror.
I hastily exited and went back to the living room where all the guys were and stood there looking like I'd seen a ghost.
My friend asked me what was wrong, and I explained what I had experienced, expecting they would have some kind of strong reaction.
But they didn't miss a beat, just said something like, "Oh, that was just old so-and-so ( I forget what they called him); he can't hurt you, he just likes to scare people, especially chicks...don't pay him any mind..." and went back to smoking their joint and talking about the news of the day.
Which had a strangely comforting effect on me, and I was fine again, though I decided to leave and never forgot that scary old man in the mirror.

Another time, in the same neighborhood, my boyfriend and I were tripping very late at night in our apartment, with a visiting friend.
We were in a very altered space.
There was a siren in the distance, and for some reason, it really attracted my attention.
A few minutes later, I felt the presence of a very freaked out woman in the room.
I asked the guys if they felt anything, but they didn't initially.
Her energy got stronger and stronger and she was latching onto me energetically, to the point where I was starting to hyperventilate.
By that time, the guys were feeling her too, and we were all also noticing there seemed to be two small children with her, who were not so freaked out, but were desperately trying to get her attention.
We meditated and tried sending them love, but it didn't work.
I suggested we say the Lord's Prayer, which we did, in unison.
That worked, and it was as if we felt the Light come and take them.
The next day, there was an article in the paper about a house fire nearby the night before in which a woman and her two children perished.
    Each breath a gift...

Yes, excellent thread here... and very real indeed are these experiences. I've found that one can easily connect with any living or 'dead' person... just by thinking about them and paying close attention to sensations within our own bodies. Some seem to come through much more powerfully, maybe due to our personal past connections or compatibility with them. Some can see them easier, and/or hear them... but for me it is the feeling aspect that is much more pronounced... This has been my experience.

It seems I grew up being afraid of ghosts like they were evil or something. But, now I know that they are just people without a body. I figure if you're an ass while alive you'll be an ass when dead.

When I was a young girl I died for a few minutes and floated to the ceiling. CPR brought me back into my body. I know for sure I exist outside my body. I was a ghost for a little while myself.
Blessed Be to You and Me.

23 years ago a dear friend of mine died young, unexpectedly. All her friends were shocked and we were very grieved. Maybe a couple of years later, she appeared in a dream and she was so alive and real. I got upset with her and told her that she had died in my life. It felt so vividly real. I wondered if she lived longer in a different probability or timeline. My friend has appeared in a couple of dreams since too, but that one was most powerful.

As a child I did hear and feel the purring vibrations of our deceased cat who I adored when I went to bed at night for a while.

I didn't experience this personally, but witnessed it on tv: a show about proof of ghosts. Most of those shows are pure hokum. One segment of an episode however stood out. A car junkyard security camera caught the ghostly image of a woman so clearly floating above the vehicles looking distressed. This camera work was absolutely believable. The junkyard receptionist told the story of how they found out the wrecked S.U.V. in the frame of the ghost was just towed in a few hours before and a young mother had lost her life in the accident. She was blond with the same hairstyle as the ghost's image. I've rarely seen footage on tv that made me feel I'd truly seen a ghost, wow.

My father imaged in my mind clearly standing over me, as I sobbed, seven hours after he died at the hospital. His eyes were wide open with surprise that I loved him so much. He felt emotionless before that. People I have known come to me before they die to ask permission to leave it seems. Recently, several neighbors have died and I have witnessed, in dreams, their actual thoughts about where they were at that moment, while they were in fact at the funeral parlour. A dear person who loved us as children, Bertha, whom I still call Berfee, appears unbidden in my thoughts and I know she is watching over me. My dearest friend who died has visited me three times in dreams, one along with my mother. After my mother died, she came and poked me in my stomach as the mortition had done to her in the mortuary. I got the message. They are not dead, wherever they may be. I believe my mother has returned as her own great great grand-daughter. It is a strange world.

I just remembered that when I first moved into the house where I live now, someone used to walk at night. I think it was the presence of the woman who used to live here, who died of cancer. The house was empty for 5 years, from the time she died until the time we bought it. I was told that she was very attached to the house, where she had been raised. She had never married, and was fairly young when she died, and although she didn't have much money, she was doing the best she could to fix the place up. I haven't heard her in years, though, and I think she finally moved on.

p.s. I think she was doing the best she could, after she died, to look after the place, and that was why she was hanging around. The people who knew her said she was a gentle soul.

When I was living in the Temple Univ. neighborhood, a year or so before I had the experiences I related in my previous post, I took an evening class with a noted paranormal researcher there at Temple.
I can't remember his name now, be he was well known, and used a lot of scientific equipment, and was quite credible.
From what he had gathered, poltergeists are the result of a traumatic death, in which part of a person's energy body splits off and remains trapped here, or a troubled soul who cannot give up his/her attachment to something on this plane.
From what I have gathered since then, the the soul is healed and is finally able to move on or merge again with the fragmented part, or the fragmented energy eventually dissipates.
But this is a different kind of phenomena altogether from souls who are acting as spirit guides or intentional "visitors", apparently.
Though there do still seem to be a lot of gray areas.

I have a friend who is a pet psychic.
She told me after my kitty Samara died (she was with me for 12 years) that Samara would return sometimes to keep me company when I was doing my collage artwork, because she really enjoyed the altered state I would go into when in creative mode.
And Samara, when alive, did indeed used to come and sleep at my feet when I was doing my art, and she never did that when I was at my computer or my desk doing paperwork, so I felt that was true.
I heard her purring a couple of times after she passed, and knew she was there, and I think she got it that I missed and loved her.

I had a reading once with a medium that was quite amazing.
I was living in California at the time, and I heard about her through a neighbor, a skeptic, who had had a free reading with her simply because it was free, but actually recommended her highly after the reading.
(The medium was in training with a pro, and had to give free readings as part of her training.)
So I got a free reading with her that lasted for over an hour.
She contacted several close friends who had passed, and the information I got was authentic, as far as I could tell, and very helpful to me in my life.
    Not all mediums are phonies!
