    Hi friends
    To put it into context.
There are two kinds of ego.
One as defined by the Medical/ Psychiatric profession.
    is Healthy self esteem.
It is good to take pride in the way we do things.
When one is comfortable with oneself and what one does then fear decrease and it is easy to be in this world with all its trials and tribulations at that point there is an over lap into the second definition of ego, the spiritual one.

The ego in spiritual terms could be defined as "Edge God Out"
Every spiritual teacher without exception says that to fully know one true self the ego must be transcended.

There were some very good contributions to this thread on Avalon and I hope that the same will apply here.
Celine has said that the complete thread from Avalon will be reposted here but there are technical problems in doing this at the moment, hopefully these will be resolved.
Time being fresh insights are very welcome.

nice thread, lots of data to absorb and expound upon, thanks for sharing~

"What is enlightenment? Enlightenment or awakening is not an exotic experience, it is simply the recognition of the nature of our being, which underlies and pervades all experience irrespective of its content. In other words, it is always and has always been here, as you.

In order to see our true nature and become established in its innate peace and joy, we go deeply into ourself, discarding or letting go of anything that is not essential to us – thoughts, images, feelings, perceptions, relationships an so on – tracing our way back to our essential reducible self or being, over and over again.

Rupert sometimes refers to this approach as the Way of Recognition - to know again something that we have always known but we have overlooked or ignored or forgotten.

As we become established in our true nature of being, or awareness, fewer and fewer experiences in life have the power to take us away from our self. In time, we begin to feel that our being is not really 'our' being. In other words, it does not really belong to us as a person.

Our being, divested of the qualities that it acquires from the content of our experience, is revealed simply as being. Utterly intimate but impersonal and unlimited, extending way beyond the borders of our self as a person.

That being is not only the essence of our self, but is the essence of everything. It is that from which we derive our sense of our self. It is also that being from which everyone and everything derives its apparent individuality or its apparent existence.

In other words we begin to feel and intuit that what we essentially are on the inside is the same reality, the same being that all people all animals and all things essentially are. And this recognition is that to which we refer in all people and animals as love. And in relation to objects and nature as beauty."

A wave is ocean, and when it rises up, it is given the
name ‘wave’. When it is given this name, it is like it has
an independent existence. It seems to roll along the
surface, which is all water—water flowing in water—
and this we call a life. Then it subsides and this is called
death. Actually nothing happened to the water. It is
just a natural movement, but because name and form
are attributed to it, it appears as a separate existence, or
entity. All the while it is only the play of water rising,
flowing, subsiding—no story. Mind makes the story by
creating an illusory identity. In true understanding, it is
all one. When the identity rises up, we celebrate it as a
birth and when it flows, we call it life. When it subsides,
we call it death and grieve. But really, if you look from
the perspective of the True, nothing really happened
except the dreamed life of a ghost comes to an end.

Alan Watts opens up about Religion - thought provoking video

Alan Watts opens up about Jesus and the true religion. The image of Jesus is owned by the church traditions and authorities. He has been moulded to fit the interests of the church patriarchs for centuries, so much so that the prevailing image of Jesus is now so far removed from what he truly represented.
Namely an energy from the future who came to earth to bring illumination and knowledge to humanity.
The reason why the Jesus/Jeshua personality came to earth was to create an opening or doorway to a different state of consciousness. He wanted to set an example of the possibilities that are available to each human being.
He wanted to hold up a mirror to human beings and remind them of their own divine origin and the dormant potentials they carried within. The potentials for peace, freedom and mastership over oneself.

"Samadhi (spiritual ecstasy; state of God-union experienced as the ultimate goal of meditation) is a joyous experience, a splendid light in which you behold the countless worlds floating in a vast bed of joy and bliss. Banish the spiritual ignorance that makes you think this mortal life is real.

The end of the world is realized in samadhi, or divine ecstasy. There are two kinds of samadhi. When at first you try to sit and meditate, your mind runs away in all directions. You think it is impossible to go deep. But if you sit still and persist long enough, you will begin to feel that wonderful silence of God. When your mind is withdrawn, centered in Him, the world is forgotten and you find in that silence a happiness greater than any worldly pleasure. That state, when you are totally absorbed in inner awareness of God, no longer conscious of the world, is called sabikalpa samadhi. It is "partial dissolution of the world" because, when you return to ordinary consciousness, the delusions of the world will again somewhat affect you, unless you are highly evolved and free of all desires and attachments.

The second and highest state of samadhi is when you are in the world but not of it — carrying on your duties, but every moment conscious of God. That is nirbikalpa samadhi. It is the end of all limiting desires and attachments. Delusion is vanquished, and that is the true end of the world.

I wrote, in my later years, the following poem, "Samadhi," endeavoring to convey a glimpse of its glory":

Vanished the veils of light and shade,
    Lifted every vapor of sorrow,
Sailed away all dawns of fleeting joy,
    Gone the dim sensory mirage.
Love, hate, health, disease, life, death:
Perished these false shadows on the screen of duality.
    The storm of maya stilled
By magic wand of intuition deep.
Present, past, future, no more for me,
    But ever-present, all-flowing I, I, everywhere.
    Planets, stars, Stardust, earth,
    Volcanic bursts of doomsday cataclysms,
    Creation's molding furnace,
Glaciers of silent X-rays, burning electron floods,
Thoughts of all men, past, present, to come,
Every blade of grass, myself, mankind,
Each particle of universal dust, Anger, greed, good, bad, salvation, lust,
    I swallowed, transmuted all
Into a vast ocean of blood of my own one Being.
    Smoldering joy, oft-puffed by meditation
    Blinding my tearful eyes,
Burst into immortal flames of bliss,
Consumed my tears, my frame, my all.
Thou art I, I am Thou,
    Knowing, Knower, Known, as One!
Tranquilled, unbroken thrill, eternally living, ever-new peace.
Enjoyable beyond imagination of expectancy, samadhi bliss!
    Not an unconscious state
Or mental chloroform without willful return,
Samadhi but extends my conscious realm
Beyond limits of the mortal frame
    To farthest boundary of eternity
    Where I, the Cosmic Sea,
Watch the little ego floating in Me.
Mobile murmurs of atoms are heard,
The dark earth, mountains, vales, lo! molten liquid!
Flowing seas change into vapors of nebulae!
Aura blows upon vapors, opening wondrously their veils,
    Oceans stand revealed, shining electrons,
Till, at the last sound of the cosmic drum,
Vanish the grosser lights into eternal rays
    Of all-pervading bliss.
From joy I came, for joy I live, in sacred joy I melt.
Ocean of mind, I drink all creation's waves.
Four veils of solid, liquid, vapor, light,
    Lift aright.
I, in everything, enter the Great Myself.
    Gone forever: fitful, flickering shadows of mortal memory;
    Spotless is my mental sky—below, ahead, and high above;
Eternity and I, one united ray.
    A tiny bubble of laughter,
I Am become the Sea of Mirth Itself.

I am or not, you are or not
Who am I, Who are you?

This is one of those video that, IMO, could have a thread all it's own. A modern day connect-the-dots. Going to need a strong stomach for it (ride).

Zen or not, breathwork is an attempt to control.

That's why addressing that which seems beyond approachable is enlightening.

In the manifest world, look for that which has been elevated and feverishly defended, seemingly beyond reach, there is a good chance that there are trapping of an illusion mixed in.

Temporal value, certainly, and a path worth exploring. But so is the path of, say this observation:

    Fu*king up the scenery
    Breaking my mind
    Do this, don't do that
    Can't you read the sign

    Everywhere there's Zens
    Fu*king up the scenery
    Breaking my mind
    Do this, don't do that
    Can't you read the Zen

Zen like any path, 'finger pointing' (all digits run parallel)

    Contradiction is in the crosshairs
Without trespassers the trappings of sign/ way would be absolute.

There are loads of excellent Allan Watts videos on u tube -- too many to post.
My main in put is David Carse

He also reads Nasargadatta, Papaji and Ramana elsewhere to be found on u tube
    His voice hypnotic.
I like his no nonsense style.

    Thanks to contributors and readers.
    Love Chris
