    From the Nature Journal's article:

Evidence grows for giant planet on fringes of Solar System

Gravitational signature hints at massive object that orbits the Sun every 20,000 years.

© Caltech/R. Hurt (IPAC), This artist's conception shows the view from (hypothetical) Planet Nine back towards the Sun

A century after observatory founder Percival Lowell speculated that a 'Planet X' lurks at the fringes of the Solar System, astronomers say that they have the best evidence yet for such a world. They call it Planet Nine.

Orbital calculations suggest that Planet Nine, if it exists, is about ten times the mass of Earth and swings an elliptical path around the Sun once every 10,000 - 20,000 years. It would never get closer than about 200 times the Earth - Sun distance, or 200 astronomical units (au). That range would put it far beyond Pluto, in the realm of icy bodies known as the Kuiper belt.

No one has seen Planet Nine, but researchers have inferred its existence from the way several other Kuiper belt objects (KBOs) move. And given the history of speculation about distant planets (see 'Solving for X'), Planet Nine may end up in the dustbin of good ideas gone wrong.
    Quote Solving for X

Astronomers have long speculated about the existence of additional large planets in the outer Solar System, but none has yet been confirmed.

1846 Johann Gottfried Galle discovers Neptune, guided by predictions from perturbations of Uranus's orbit.

1905 Percival Lowell (pictured) starts hunting for a 'Planet X', which he predicted would lie beyond Neptune, just as Neptune lies beyond Uranus. His calculations led astronomers at Lowell's namesake observatory to find Pluto in 1930, but the object is not massive enough to be Planet X.

1984 On the basis of periodic extinctions in the fossil record, scientists propose that a dwarf star, later named Nemesis, passes through the Solar System every 26 million years, flinging comets on a path to impact Earth.

1999 Perturbations in comet orbits lead astronomers to propose that a brown dwarf (bigger than a planet but smaller than a star) exists in the outer Solar System. It is named Tyche, the good sister of Nemesis.

2014 A search with the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer satellite rules out the existence of both Nemesis and Tyche. But the discovery of an object in the distant Kuiper belt prompts Chadwick Trujillo and Scott Sheppard to propose a large planet in the Kuiper belt.

2016 Orbital calculations by Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown strengthen the concept of this unseen planet, which they name 'Planet Nine'.
"If I read this paper out of the blue, my first reaction would be that it was crazy," says Mike Brown, an astronomer at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena who was part of the research team. "But if you look at the evidence and statistics, it's very hard to come away with any other conclusion."

Brown and his colleague Konstantin Batygin propose Planet Nine in a paper published on 20 January in the Astronomical Journal (K. Batygin and M. E. Brown Astronom. J. 151, 22; 2016).

Alessandro Morbidelli, an orbital-dynamics specialist at the University of the Côte d'Azur in Nice, France, who has reviewed the paper in detail, says he is "quite convinced" that the planet exists. Others are not so sure.

"I have seen many, many such claims in my career," says Hal Levison, a planetary scientist at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado. "And all of them have been wrong."

Claims of Planet Nine's existence recall a period in the nineteenth century when astronomers predicted and then discovered Neptune by studying tiny perturbations in the orbit of Uranus. The gravity of some unseen body must be tugging on Uranus, they said — and they were right. "In some sense we're hoping to relive history a little bit," says Batygin.

The story of Planet Nine began in 2014, when a pair of astronomers reported finding a KBO called 2012 VP113. Its stretched-out orbit never came closer than 80 au to the Sun (C. A. Trujillo and S. S. Sheppard Nature 507, 471 - 474; 2014). (Pluto, at its most distant, is 48 au from the Sun.) VP113 joined the dwarf planet Sedna as only the second known object with a very distant orbit. In their report, Chadwick Trujillo at the Gemini Observatory in Hilo, Hawaii, and Scott Sheppard of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington DC said that the orbits of these objects suggested that yet another object, a planet bigger than Earth, could exist at around 250 au (see 'Far afield').

    © K. Batygin and M. E. Brown Astronom. J. 151, 22 (2016)

Batygin and Brown picked up the challenge. "Our main goal at that point was to show that this idea is crazy," says Brown.

But Trujillo and Sheppard had noted that Sedna, VP113, and several other KBOs all shared a peculiar property: their closest approach to the Sun lay in the plane of the Solar System, and they all moved from south to north when crossing that plane.

Batygin and Brown analysed the orbits further and discovered that their long axes were physically aligned, too, as if something had nudged them to occupy the same region of space around the Sun. The team concluded that a massive object must be shepherding the objects. "We have a gravitational signature of a giant planet in the outer Solar System," Batygin says.

Planet Nine — informally known as Phattie — is probably smaller than Neptune and icy with a gassy outer layer. The gravitational effect of Uranus and Neptune would have flung it outward in the first 3 million years of the Solar System's existence, Batygin says.

Actually spotting Planet Nine through a telescope could be difficult because it would spend most of its time very far from the Sun, making it faint and hard to see, notes Meg Schwamb, an astronomer at the Academia Sinica in Taipei. Brown and Batygin have been looking for it using the Subaru telescope in Hawaii, so far without success. The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope in Chile will have a good chance of catching it when it starts operating early next decade, Brown says.

But he and Batygin say that there are other ways to test the existence of Planet Nine. Its gravitational influence would also produce a population of KBOs with orbits at steeply inclined angles. A few of these have already been spotted, but discovering more would strengthen the statistics of the discovery and help to clarify whether Planet Nine really exists or not, says David Nesvorny, a planetary scientist at the Southwest Research Institute. So it's back to the telescopes. "It really points to the fact that more extreme KBOs need to be found," says Trujillo. "The location is not known well enough to just point a telescope at it and say, 'there it is'."

    Thanks for that Hervé

What I orgiganally meant to say was:
And of curse (course) add our galaxy's movement in the Universe 0.o

How dose our Milkyway move? Not on a flat concentric way is it, yet more interaction and spiraling

Then, out of our determination, how dose our universe interact with other universes?

I posted under the Conspiracy Research section under subject 'Nibiru Again' by mistake. Here is on going scientific research for this large planet beyond the Edgeworth Kuiper Belt. See previous post in October 2015 'Conspiracy Research' subject 'Nibiru Again'? post #87 for a scientific theoretical and observational research.

It looks like there could be two planets Xs. This recent model (Feb 2016) indicating a close body in the inner Oort cloud and the other in the outer Oort Cloud. See Nibiru Again? post #87 for the Brown dwarf body in the outer Oort Cloud.

Assuming the planet is mainly emitting in the infrared, their have been infrared searches using the WISE telescope (Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer).
Searches were conducted using WISE, but nothing found based at those distances on the criteria in this recent paper. The February paper proposes a gaseous planet. This should have showed up in the recent WISE survey at 22 microns. May be its rocky body with dim albedo. This would require a large optical to telescope get down to 28+ magnitude at that distance.

Among the WISE bands, W2 provides the best constraints on the presence of a companion to the Sun. Given the typical sensitivities achieved by WISE. W2 is capable of detecting objects at larger distances than W1, W3, and W4 for W1 − W2 > 1.2, W2 − W3 < 4.3, and W2 − W4 < 7.6, respectively. Although W1 offers higher S/N at W1 − W2 < 1.2, Any brown dwarf with that colour (T2) would be easily detected at W2 if it is within the range of plausible distances for a solar companion (<1 pc) based on the absolute magnitudes of L and T dwarfs (Dupuy & Liu 2012).

This is a huge survey to analyse based on the above parameters. However, it could be filtered down to specific type Brown Dwarf (BD) that may have its own planets. (Plajeren contact notes)

(I carried out recent data from W2 had 0.5 bn flux points with a FOV of 5 x 5 degrees resulted in 700 potential BDs). Applying WISE + ALLWISE + NEOWISE provides multiple epochs to potentially detect a shift

If a bound object is discovered by WISE, then it likely will explain the perceived Oort cloud comet anomaly and it will be a “Goldilocks” companion.
    (Nibiru Again? post #87

Any promising observation that is recorded in the WISE database would be sent to narrow-field IR telescopes for detailed follow up observations to falsify or verify the Goldilocks criteria. Time frame ~ 1 year.

Using the WISE telescope (Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer), I have been using T7 BD type body as Planet X within the outer Solar System. I have been using WISE W2 band which should enhance candidates in that region.

I have analysed 25 sq. degs.up to August 2015 and about to search 75 sq. degs. in Delphinus to the end of 2016

Using both WISE + ALLWISE + NEOWISE and comparison past catalogues 2MASS, SDSS and Spitzer. These will provide many epochs to see a reasonable shift of the proposed planet.

Besides using the conventional mechanistic information in science, I am using my own abilities consciously (Partnership with Nature Intelligence within a Co Creative Science method) to derive a location. I have also taken into consideration Billy Meier's Plajeren ET contact notes that have provided invaluable data.

    Some more here...

It has been announced that there is at least one more planet in our solar system, possibly two.

I first heard about this (as an official announcement, not as a suggestion from alternative news sites) on Wednesday evening whilst watching the last few minutes of the News. It was announced as a 'just released / late news' newsflash.

At the time I was stunned. It HAS to mean something although exactly what remains to be seen.

My first thought was along the lines of other new planets being discovered at times important in human evolution.

    ****************************************

Scientists may have found Planet X -- the long-rumored object believed to be larger than Earth and further from the sun than Pluto.

Planet X and another object dubbed "Planet Y," are among 13 "extreme trans-Neptunian objects" (ETNOs) orbiting the sun at great distances, according to a report in Space, which quoted a new research paper.

They are believed to follow elliptical paths averaging about 200 astronomical units (AU) from the sun. Earth is 1 AU, or 93 million miles, from the sun.

"This excess of objects with unexpected orbital parameters makes us believe that some invisible forces are altering the distribution of the orbital elements of the ETNOs, and we consider that the most probable explanation is that other unknown planets exist beyond Neptune and Pluto," lead author Carlos de la Fuente Marcos, of the Complutense University of Madrid, said in a statement.

"The exact number is uncertain, given that the data that we have is limited, but our calculations suggest that there are at least two planets, and probably more, within the confines of our solar system," he added.

They are far enough away to be nearly impossible to spot with current instruments, according to Space.

Planet X was previously hypothesized in a 2014 research paper.

Called 2012 VP113, researchers Chadwick Trujillo and Scott Sheppard claimed that the object never came closer to the sun than 80 AU, according to Space.

The newly-found ETNO joins Sedna, a dwarf planet believed to be about 250 AU from the sun, as objects residing outside the Kuiper Belt, where Pluto resides, according to Space.

Pluto was only recently reclassified as a planet, albeit a Dwarf planet, after losing the distinction in 2006.

Creator/God is good at what he creates and all systems respond. Hmmm, just a thought that needs a little more investigatory evidence before commenting. oooo this is very interesting.
    On the other hand....
They already know, don't want the blame for not telling us in time to prepare, and want a average Joe Schmoe astronomer to discover it while claiming they didn't know because cuts were to harsh and they could only monitor X% of the space.(to increase space funding?
Gotta go research this a bit. If they are disclosing, best to be in the observation deck to see what games they play.
They already know, Maybe ,I was actually thinking the same thing down to a T, hand on heart.

I hope were both wrong but the story has hit every main MSM outlet in the past 24hours and they are running with it. As if to grease the wheels ,as it were.

I don't think your average astronomer would see it to be honest unless it was very close as there some things you just cant see as they don't reflect enough light to be picked up, a lot of people may be worried by the planets orbit and its effect on the planets around it.

If were to believe a 20.000 year orbit, when are the differences to be noticed & what are they, if any. Which presumably there will be if its as dense as they say it may be, with reference to apogee & perigee. All we ever seem to get is 1/4 or 1/2 of the information if were lucky which sends half the population to discount the information as irrelevant to them, Maybe its just me but I expect better with the technical equipment that they have at there disposal.

If I understand this correctly, this candidate Planet X, never comes even remotely close to Earth.
It's orbit is several times further away from us than Neptune,.... even at it's closest point.
And of-course, Neptune is the most distant planet... it is a very long way away.

If so, then this planet is a poor candidate for Nibiru.
We're expecting Nibiru's path to cut insider the path of Mars.
If Nibiru really exists, then i presume it must be a different planet.

"There could be a new ninth planet floating beyond the dark edges of our solar system,
according to new research published in The Astronomical Journal from CalTech professors
    Mike Brown and Konstantin Batygin.

Brown and Batygin think they’ve found a celestial body that would meet all of the requirements
for being classified as a planet. The researchers studied six small objects in the Kuiper belt and
noticed their orbits funneled toward the sun in a very specific formation. The likelihood of this
being a coincidence is slim to none. What researchers believe is that a new planet, unofficially
dubbed “Planet X,” is pulling these objects into its orbit."

What further intrigues me about this disclosure is the following.

They have worked out that there is some thing there by the effect it is having on other bodies in the solar system, but they haven't seen it yet, I say again "yet", and from what I have been lead to believe the 20.000 year obit may be elliptical and not concentric with the sun.

So, at what stage of its orbit is it currently in, what we are lead to believe its so far away it cant be see but it has an effect that can be detected and noticed by calculation so far away, so how big / dense is it?

Then you have to ask yourself what kind of effects could it have on other bodies & planets when it reaches the point in its orbit that is closest to the sun, albeit a long way off it still may be when this point is reached.

You guessed it, everyone is silent about this as maybe its too inconvenient.

I for 1 are tired of half stories from MSM & so called alternative media outlets that never have any proper follow up that cohesively match up with what has been formerly announced .

Yes it isn't the fabled Nibiru, but could the effect of this unknown quantity moving to edge of the solar system bring other things into play, these may only be words on a screen but nobody that has taken this into account has bothered to tell anyone so it leaks out to anyone that is genuinely interested in the everyday word of us mere mortals.

I have been seeing more and more of these pictures and wondered what others thought. Are there more than 9 planets in our solar system at this time or more tom foolery?

    more tom foolery?
    Yep.

That looks VERY much like a reflection to me — the photo having been taken through glass.

Any large object like that, if it really was an astronomical body, would be visible not only to the photographer, but to 7 billion other people, including you and me, and every astronomer in the world, today and tomorrow and for months to come.

These things don't just appear and disappear... they can't.

Although a good question about 9 planets since Pluto was downgraded and didn't scientists mention they confirmed another planet?

Is it possible that they might be preparing the public for the talked planet x? I mean that nibiru that may or may not exist? It feels like its all so convenient that so many are talking about this prophecy of the return of nibiru and the annunaki and now they declare that they might have found a 9th planet that it's orbit for some reason seems very much like the one in all the nibiru predictions around the internet... May be its one of their ways to make it to the public's eye in a way that is under their terms without saying "you were right"?
