Default What a McDonalds Happy Meal looks like after 6 years

The preservatives make it look almost made today...

    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/m...154724048.html

Quote Jennifer Lovdahl posted photos of the meal and an accompanying receipt dated January 8, 2010 to Facebook.
The photos show four chicken nuggets and and a small order of slightly shriveled french fries.
"It's been 6 years since I bought this 'Happy Meal' at McDonald's," Lovdahl wrote in the photo caption. "It's been sitting at our office this whole time and has not rotted, molded, or decomposed at all!"
Lovdahl said she bought the food and let it sit for years to prove to people that McDonald's food is unhealthy because it doesn't rot.

Talk about the antithesis of live food. Food with enzymes and nutrients that microorganisms will gobble up if left available. This so called "food" is so dead and inert at every level that bacteria and mold don't want anything to do with it. Or maybe, it is the antibiotic residue in the food that keeps the bugs away. It doesn't even appear to follow the natural laws of decomposition.

Well maybe they will start to cover themselves, by adding 'Bio-Degradable' plastics instead of 100 year life span plastics they use now lol.

    great post, but not MD

perhaps this is a photo which was taken in Jan 2010. Come on folks. If I leave food in my fridge for a couple of weeks it starts to go mouldy. This is not magic food. It would be impossible for mould not to grow on it after a few weeks. FFS.

An EPA scientist that I recently met told me (after excusing himself for telling me that story) that the way dead US soldiers are differentiated from dead Iraqis is by their decomposition rates (with all the preservatives in the US food, dead US soldiers are much slower to decompose).

No, it's real. I have seen an example (McDonald's hamburger and fries) - in person - that was several years old, and the fries were a bit shriveled. The hamburger and bun looked about like it did on day one - no mold at all. Lots of preservatives, I'd guess.

I know MacDonalds is unhealthy, but every cloud has a silver lining. Mold, fungus and rotting is a major factor in aging. Has Macdonalds stumbled upon a semi-safe method of preserving meat? And are the chemicals they used derived from herbs that can be drunk as teas to keep death away. I am semi-serious, why not? Stranger things have happened.

I know that ascorbic acid (vit C) is widely used in the food industry. It preserves food, and preserves us too.

I wouldn't be so quick to say it's real.. that receipt looks WAY too recently printed, those thermal transfer receipts don't last more than a couple years when exposed to any kind of light or even house hold heating.

now I'm not saying it's NOT real, just making an observation.

Also, if this was done in alaska it's kind of cheating, there's around 0% humidity there, I bet those chicken nuggets are rock hard with every drop of moisture sucked out by the air, which in itself preserves food.

Not impossible at all, it's full of preservatives.

I can't speak to the authenticity of this one but I've seen a similar experiment before in glass jars and it's true that it doesn't decay like normal food.

Haven't we all found a little French fry that got dropped in your car or under the couch and think "huh, I haven't had Mickey d's in a long time?"

Lmao. The other day I was looking for something in my bag and had to dump the whole thing out. I found three or four fries that must have been there for over 6 months because I haven't been or even been around fast food for that long.

The fries looked like they were from that day ....my dog ate them when I had my back turned. Lol. She's still alive.

Something I have definitely noticed that is a dramatic change over the years is how long some dairy product will last. I remember that milk would spoil rather quickly and although I don't use it very often, I will look at the pull date or the date of "best if used before" and I am amazed how long this stuff will stay "fresh" without going sour or curdling. Is it because it is loaded with antibiotics or some other manipulation? There has definitely been a huge change with that. I don't see that as a positive change, although it may be more convenient for some.
