One thing I noticed when I saw a clip of the Madonna movie "Desperately Seeking Susan" last month.

The scene where she trades in her jacket at the used clothes store and says "Used to belong to Jimi Hendrix". Then when the guy re-sells it I distinctly remember him saying "Used to belong to David Bowie". However, he now said "Used to belong to Elvis Presley".

It really stood out as I remember it well and it's not two people I would get mixed up.

    From the website MandelaEffect.com

    Most popular alternate memories

51 or 52 United States — (Not Puerto Rico, which is a territory, or DC, which is a district.)

Berenstain Bears or Berenstein Bears – Which do you recall? (Still one of the most popular topics at this website.)

Billy Graham’s funeral on TV. As of January 2016, he’s still alive.

Challenger shuttle explosion date? 1984, 1985, or 1986? Winter or another time of year? (Per Wikipedia, it was 28 Jan 1986.) Also, alternate memories about the Columbia.

Colors – Chartreuse and more – Many people recall chartreuse as a pink or reddish color. It’s actually yellow-green.

Curious George – Tail or no tail? (He’s never had a tail.) This is part of my article about dual memories.

Ghost Hunters TV show — Some remember the earliest show name as TAPS, not Ghost Hunters. (Yes, we know the real-life team is called TAPS, and some of their gear has always said that.)

Henry VIII portrait with a turkey leg in his hand — Many people clearly recall seeing it in history books, but there’s no record of it, now.

Jif or Jiffy Peanut Butter – Jif peanut butter was never called “Jiffy,” in this timestream. (Not confused with Skippy brand, either.)

Lindbergh baby – Never found? In this timestream, the 20-month old baby was found 12 May 1932.

Mother Teresa – A saint before 2016? Several recall her canonization in the 1990s. They also recall her name spelled “Theresa.”

Nelson Mandela’s death in prison, long before his actual death (in this timestream) on 5 December 2013.

New Zealand’s location, relative to Australia.

Red/blue – Pepsi logo changes, Chevron logo changes, and other color swaps… are they markers, cues, or signs to watch for?

September 22nd or 23rd? – Some people recall events shifting from one of these dates to another. (The reaction to this article — on- and off-site — has been disproportionate to its apparent minor importance.)

Sky – Changes in the sun, moon, stars, planets and their moons, constellation configurations and placement, and the color of the sky in general.

Tiananmen Square – Memories of a young man being run over by a tank. (Might be Mandela Effect issue or simple media manipulation.)

Agatha Christie – Never found after her 1926 disappearance? (In this timestream, she turned up 10 days later, but never explained. Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agatha_...#Disappearance ) [Comments link 1 – link 2 – link 3.]

Barbara or Barbra Streisand? In this reality, it’s Barbra. (“Barbara” is a common typo, but doesn’t explain all the alternate memories. Many people listed the alternative “Barbara” as one of several memories they have. Individual comment links include this, this, this, and this.)

Betty White – Alive, well, and still feisty at age 93 in March 2015. Some recall her passing.

Brian Dennehy – Alive and well, per Wikipedia, but a few of us have other memories.

Charles Schulz or Schultz? (Creator of Peanuts comics and TV shows including Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy, etc.) The correct spelling in this timestream is Schulz. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_M._Schulz )

Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer – Several people have (privately) reported a memory of his recent death. Wikipedia says still alive.

Coen brothers or Cohen brothers? – American film producers & screenwriters. Note: Different from producers John Cohen (“Ice Age,” “Despicable Me,” etc.), Rob Cohen (“The Mummy,” “The Fast and the Furious,” etc.), and Charles S. Cohen (“Frozen River.”) Not the musicians, either. Comment link.

David Soul – As of October 2015, he’s still alive, healthy, and starring in new productions.

Dick Clark’s death… at least two of them. (Per Wikipedia, he died in April 2012.)

Dick Van Patten – Died prior to his June 2015 death in this timestream?

Dom DeLuise’s death. He died in 2009, but that’s not the only memory people have. 10 related comments, some at Comments 2.

Don Rickles – Still alive in Oct 2015 (per Wikipedia) although some recall his earlier demise.

Ernest Borgnine, death reported years before it happened in 2012.

Forrest J. Ackerman – Died in 2008 in this timeline (per Wikipedia), but others recall alternate, earlier death dates.

Fred Rogers (aka Mister Rogers) – Died in 2003, or later?

Freddie Prinze — Several memories, mostly related to Freddie, Junior, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, and a child born around 2003 or 2004.

Hal Holbrook – Born 1925, and still alive in January 2015. His late wife, Dixie Carter, passed away in 2010. Several remember Mr. Holbrook’s own death & memorials prior to 2010.

Helen Thomas (1920 – 2013), former White House reporter – Some recall an alternate date when she passed.

Henry Ford – Died from cerebral hemorrhage or something else?

Houston family (Whitney’s) – Conflicting memories about her children, after Whitney’s death, but before Bobbi Kristina’s 2015 tragic death.

Jack Palance — An earlier death date than what’s in the current timestream.

Jayne Meadows Allen — Died 2015 or much earlier? (She was an actress, and widow of comedian Steve Allen.)

Jerry Lewis – Remembered death late in 2013 or early 2014. Still alive in Oct 2014. (Different from Jerry Lee Lewis, the colorful singer/songwriter.)

Jim Henson – Died of complications from a strep infection, or from cancer? (In this timestream, initially reported as walking pneumonia. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_He...ness_and_death )

John Denver’s death — When and where? In this reality, 12 Oct 1997 near Monterrey Bay, California.

John Lennon — Date of death is 8 Dec 1980, but some have clear memories of a different date.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono – The location of 1969 “bed-in for peace.” (If you remember this, note the location before checking Wikipedia for the details.)

Kathie Lee Gifford or Kathy Lee Gifford? In this reality, it’s always been “Kathie.”

Katy Perry – Memories of her using the name Kate, not Katy.

Leonard DiCaprio – Won an Oscar before 2016? Some recall earlier nominations and awards, as well as his 2016 acceptance speech, but years earlier.

Li Qi – Chinese comedian with a reported death, still alive in early 2014.

Louie Anderson – Alive and well now, but his death (and therefore cancellation of his TV show) at some point in the past. (Not confused with John Candy and other comedians.)

Muhammad Ali – 2009 death? Still alive (early 2015) per Wikipedia.

Neil Armstrong died in 2013, not 2012? Also, some are sure he made a ‘Mr. Gorsky’ reference during his lunar voyage. (Latter debunked in this timestream by Snopes, but does anyone actually recall hearing it?)

Patrick Swayze, his full recovery reported after his tragic death in this reality.

Peter Fonda – He’s still alive. (Not confusing him with his dad, actor Henry Fonda, who died in 1982.)

Peter Townsend or Peter Townshend — Spelling change? (One is a singer-songwriter for The Who. The other is an American drummer.)

Reba McIntyre or Reba McEntire? – Decide how you remember it before visiting her official website or Wikipedia to see the real spelling.

Richard Chamberlain – Did not die in the 1990s. Still alive (as of Oct 2015), and – related memory – James Franciscus was not his brother.

Robert Crumb — Death reported, 1990s. Still alive (July 2015). Artist responsible for Fritz the Cat and the iconic Keep on Truckin’ graphic, etc.

Robert Stack — Earlier death reports.

Rod Serling or Rod Sterling? Some recall the latter spelling, not as a typo.

Shirley Temple — Some recall her death long prior to 10 Feb 2014.

Sinbad – Did he ever play a genie in a major movie? Did he ever play a genie, full stop?

    More events… when and where?

9/11 – Did it happen on 9/11, as most people remember, or on 9/10, as some recall?

Thanksgiving (USA) – The third or the fourth Thursday in November? (Since 1941, it’s always on the fourth Thursday.)

Weather – Hurricane Katrina: April or August 2005, or another year altogether?

Writers’ strike in Hollywood – 2007-2008 or some other year (21st century only)?

    More geography

Geography — Locations and sizes of New Zealand. Locations of Australia, Honduras, Japan, Manchuria, and more.

Adam’s Bridge (also Ram Setu, Rama Setu, Setubandhanam, and other names) – Some recall it fully above sea level in the mid-late 20th century, while historical records (in this timestream) say it was partially submerged — due to a cyclone — in the late 15th century. (ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam%27s_Bridge )

    Alaska – Coastline radically different.

Arctica – Hasn’t existed for a very long time.

Japan – Where do you recall it, in relation to China?

Korea – N. Korea borders Russia? That’s what maps show.

Madagascar – Location and general geography. Not just a map issue.

Mongolia – Part of China or a separate country? And where is/was it?

Sri Lanka location, due south of India, not southeast. (Also see ancient maps at this article about geography changes, in general.)

Wales – East or west of England and Scotland? (It’s west. From London, take the M25 west to the M4, and follow the M4 into Wales.)

More media (TV, films, books, magazines)

Big (the movie) – Alternate ending. (Not confused with 13 Going on 30.)

The Candidate, or The Campaign — One movie, one and a remake, two movies, or now three… and did the title change? (Solved, maybe: See the related HuffPost page. Compare the article title and the inset video clip title.)

Carmen Sandiego (“Where in the World Is…”) – Some recall a yellow trench coat, long before the red one. Comment link.

Cinderella – Some recall an alternate central character or characters.

Cruella DeVille or De Vil? – It’s the latter, in this Disney’s 101 Dalmatians movie reference. [See comment.]

Different Strokes or Diff’rent Strokes? – It’s the latter, though many recall otherwise and some TV listings support that.

Duggars – Was the show (briefly) “21 Kids and Counting”?

Forrest Gump – Was the most famous line “Life IS like a box of chocolates…” or “Life WAS like a box of chocolates…”? In this reality, it’s the latter. (However, both lines were used in connection with the movie, so this isn’t necessarily a Mandela Effect.)

Fred Rogers’ song, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” – Some recall “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.” In this reality, it’s “It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood.”? (See http://www.neighborhoodarchive.com/m..._neighbor.html and https://youtu.be/zMUGJZrR9Jg.)

Gremlins character (movie) – Spike or Stripe? The only reliable sources say it was always Stripe, not Spike.

Hand gestures in movies – Do you recall different hand gestures in movies? For example, a more elaborate hand gesture by Antonio Banderas, with a candle, in Interview with the Vampire? See the YouTube clip from the movie, around the 2:03 point. I’m looking for very specific descriptions of the alternate gesture.

Independence Day (movie) — Characters now missing from a major scene? (This has been reported privately, twice, and we’re looking for confirmation from others.)

Interview with a Vampire, or Interview with the Vampire – Actually, both titles were used on published book, in this reality. So, this isn’t a clear Mandela Effect issue.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and related topics – Did the Great Pumpkin appear near the end of the holiday special, or was it just Snoopy’s shadow? Was the cartoonist Charles Schultz or Charles Schulz? (In both cases, it was the latter in this reality.)

Jurassic Park – Original movie: Some recall a now-missing scene.

Justice League – Check the characters you’re remembering and see if one is missing.

K-PAX (movie) – Starred Kevin Spacey or Nicholas Cage? (In this timestream, it’s Spacey.)

Looney Tunes or Looney Toons? – Several conflicting memories.

Married with Children – Some recall one character played by two different actors.

M.A.S.H. (TV series) – Some recall the in-series death of Walter “Radar” O’Reilly. However, that wasn’t part of the story in this timestream.

Mirror, Mirror – In “Snow White,” did the evil queen say “Mirror, mirror…” or “Magic mirror…”? (In Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Queen says, “Magic mirror.”)

Mystery Science Theater — Variations of the numbers following show name (mostly 2000 or 3000, but a few recall 4000).

Sex and the City – Some are sure it was “Sex in the City” when it first aired.

Star Trek memories, including: Chakotay character killed, then returns — several episodes later — without much explanation. (I’ve talked about this — in person — with Robert Beltran, who played the character. He’s sure that version was never written or filmed.)

Star Wars – Was the iconic line “Luke, I am your father” or “No, I am your father”? Also a missing scene. (Not just “deleted.”)

Terminator (and other movie) variations, “remembered” before the deleted scenes were available on DVD. Alternate late scenes and endings reported, as well.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (movie) – Different ending after initial release? Different title?

X-Men – Some reports of alternate abilities for Professor X

    .
    Interesting list. ^^

But 90-95% of that can (and will!) probably be dismissed out of hand. There's a bit of a barrel being scraped here, for sure.

I'd say that that's not all that smart (of whoever generated the list)... way too much risk of ridicule by uncritically collecting maybe one-off reports of a totally subjective anomaly, or something someone couldn't remember very clearly, from a person who couldn't tell you where Turkmenistan was if you paid them $100,000.

Some of the anomalies have been reported, sometimes independently, by literally thousands of people. The ones reported by just one or two people (often one, and then someone else agreed) just can't be counted as statistically significant.

Watch this carefully, and you'll see the rumors, poor logic and poor research spin way out of control, as everyone copies and repeats everyone else's anecdotes, and then no-one wins. I've already seen one video where the presenter thinks the Earth has changed shape, and now it's flat.

OMG. Not a joke, he really said that. The attitude needed for a researcher here is that of someone like David Paulides. You gotta go slow, be meticulous, check facts meticulously, and have hard criteria for what kind of anomaly qualifies to be noted.

My current stance is that I think there are a small number of highly-strange anomalies, a few of which really had me staring at the wall for a few minutes this afternoon. About 4 of them. Those kinda stopped me in my tracks for a moment.

The others are almost certainly (but unprovably) a result of bad memory and/or bad geography. (Geography is NOT a good example of this phenomenon!)

I do want to say more about this, as intelligently as I can. It's interesting stuff, and there may really be something happening here, even if it's very occasional, and usually tiny. If two timelines really are 'bleeding' into one another (and I do think this is possible, based on everything I know and understand) they're pretty nearly totally 99.99999999% identical.

As I said to the mods team a few hours ago, it's if we wake up tomorrow morning and find Hillary's been the US president for the last 8 years, then we'll know we have a problem.

It's funny how close they are. Almost like copying errors. So most could be attributed to poor memory.

Most of that list is literally junk food and Facebook gossip; many of us will not relate to either. Memory is faulty at the best of times simply because it is inevitably selective. This is because reality is hugely more complex than any narrative we can ever construct. An example of this sort of thing comes in Jorge-Luis Borges story “El Otro” (The Other) where as an old man he meets his younger self (a non-visual encounter because by this time he is almost blind). His younger self tells him the poet Walt Whitman would never tell a lie. He replies from the standpoint of one who has translated Leaves of Grass, saying that Whitman claims to have been born in two different states; pretty conclusive evidence of some form of untruthfulness I'd say.

They then exchange a silver coin for a dollar bill. The younger man seeing the date 1963 on the banknote, tears it up and reclaims his coin before it gets thrown in the river. The old man reckons his younger self freaked out at something he just imagined, because he was later told, after completing the story, that there is no date on a dollar bill. This amounts to suggesting that the whole scene did not really happen at all, it is just a piece of creative writing. Borges leaves the reader to work out the punchline: there IS a date on a dollar bill. And therefore the döppelganger is for real and is also telling the truth: so you have Borges himself literally in two different states, neither of which can be totally objective.

Default Re: The Mandela Effect: What does it mean??

The strongest proof of a Mandela effect I can find is the TV show Sex in the City. I clearly remember it being Sex in the City not Sex and the City. My wife is a stickler for details and has a photographic memory and noted to me innocently last week that she thought it was called Sex in the City as it appeared on TV not THE. I also took several Media classes in University and remembered joking about the Title with female friends. So this is what i found out.

    Sex in the City

    2.8m hits on youtube
    71,000 hits on instagram
    700 hits on Ebay

    Sex and the City

    5m hits on youtube
    476,000 hits on instagram
    4000 hits on Ebay

What I find interesting are the 700 Ebay sellers selling 6 series boxsets all refering to it in the selling title as Sex in the city despite the picture on the box clearly saying Sex and the city. Surely if you were a big enough Fan to buy the box sets you would get the name right! http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...+city&_sacat=0

This video clip clearly shows the star of the show sarah jessica parker referring to the show as in not ´n´ but in. the interviewer also clearly asks questions referring to the show as in

People in the many comments section have also picked up on this and the Mandela effect debate can be seen clearly in the comments sections with many women 100% certain it was called Sex in the city while others only remember sex and the city.

The comments sections are awash with anecdotes which I find the most interesting as the past, present and future timeline we are on now, doesn't match with peoples memories. My best friend is called Luke and I remember rewinding the star wars scene and copying Darth Vader and saying "Luke....I....am your father." However this current timeline suggests that is impossible. I watched Sex in the city on my timeline. But most interesting of all, is this is the first time I have seen a conspiracy theory grip people who would normally laugh this stuff off!

sellers change the advert title to reflect the lack of erudition in the buyers, in order to be able to sell items. It's that simple, regarding the one aspect. when selling to the illiterate, fit their expectations, plain and simple. It's the difference between a push sale and a pull sale.

If i was selling the item, I would mention both expected titles and reach as many buyers as possible.

One excellent way to find coveted and even rare items, or very low prices on what are generally expensive or costly items, is to search eBay for the illiterate and/or dyslexic having listed such an item ---- incorrectly. Eg, something that should have 500 views and 10 bidders, might have only 5-10 views. Return is commensurate with effort.

One has to remember that most of the American public has barely read even a book (equivalence, etc) a year, in these modern times. We speak and read a lopsided pidgin, these days, which affects the general outlook and use of English in some interesting and normalized ways.

Quote It is difficult to measure vocabulary size accurately. Total vocabulary size varies greatly from person to person, but people typically use about 5,000 words in their speech and about twice that many in their writing. A college-educated speaker of English could have a vocabulary as large as 80,000 words.
Someone interested in 'sex in the city', would probably have a fairly contracted word set at their immediate disposal. Which leads to fairly well normalized contractions/errors in their projections and input filtering with regard to language usage.

This is kind of what Bill and others are talking about, -and I expound here- when said that one has to be careful about the unconscious aspects of societal and cultural normalization which is inherent in the undercurrent of the fabric of life, and then coming to realization of such..and ascribing it to the idea of 'The Mandala Effect'.

Just a comment: that's most likely because those are being noticed, as they're pretty well known. There may be many more, far more obscure and not committed to memory, which haven't been noticed at all.

Bill asked for UK examples. Maybe I've missed the point of this thread, but why are the following not examples of The Mandela Effect?

I remember Marathon bars. Now they're Snickers.
    Bejam became Iceland.
Green Shield Stamps shop is now Argos.
    Treats now Minstrels.
    etc.

These are simply products or establishments that have changed name. Surely this sort of thing is not what the Mandela Effect is all about - is it? It's not as if old photos of these items showing their original names cannot be found because they can.

However, I have one example that I can't explain...

I remember seeing a photograph in a book I had (before the internet) that showed what was supposed to be a group of US Civil War soldiers (or maybe just ranchers) holding up a 'thunderbird' in a building, possibly a barn. Now, what I find very creepy indeed is the fact that Fortean Times some yeas ago had either a letter or article about this photo that readers could remember, but no one could track down! Wow - yes, me too! Since then, that particular photo seems to be a major example of this phenomenon. I guess that's a good case of the Mandela Effect!

I'm prepared to put all this down to nothing more sinister than false memory syndrome, rather than any much more complex time-line malarkey explanation. But I want to be wrong!

    Thanks, Nick —
    • Yes, Bejam and Marathon were both real-world, actual name changes. Nothing strange there.
    • Yes, re the Thunderbird photo — I've looked, and can't find that, either. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Some things on the net are a little hard to track down, especially when websites die, and their photos along with them. Archive.org is a great resource, but it's not complete by any means, and often images are not archived (though the pages are).
    • I do agree that most of this is highly likely to be people's unreliable memories. But I do have a handful of strong little anomalies I just can't explain and make me feel really quite weird. (Really! It's like What?!? ) I'm not ruling out that something strange is happening here.

My two cents worth, just some thoughts.
IF this is occuring im wondering is this a merging or bleeding threw of timelines a natural event OR has it been induced by TPTB?

Also does it mean our souls are merging with a another aspect of itself?

Another point and I think there is a thread on this topic here somewhere. On tv they seem to to be recycling the same shows and movies over and over again in a very short period of time im wondering if this a litmus test for the masses being conducted by TPTB. To test if the masses are noticing this transition or merging.

I remember Simon Parkes stating the shift would be happening about between now and the end of 2017.
Are all these slightly differences a soft sell by reality to alert / wake up humanity in a undeniable manner to this coming shift?

Another avenue along which some of these bizarre happenings occur:
Since then, let’s see… One day my travels eventually took me to Maui. And because of the teachings and the stories I heard, I really wanted to check out the place where they were sealed off - it sounded so intriguing. It’s naturally protected, surrounded by steep cliffs. It’s a really treacherous area. And it gets an absurd amount, I think it could be the highest amount of rain- or second highest in the world-? So it’s always wet and slick. I was in Maui a number of times, shortly before and after the Atlantean colony was abandoned. In the early/mid 70’s, I assumed the patrols had stopped. I started trying to find a guide, a local Hawaiian guide that would take me into the area. I was prepared to do mountain climbing & rappelling, whatever was necessary to check it out.

But, not only couldn’t I get anybody to take me there, every time I brought it up to somebody, they would look down and get this very heavy feeling coming over them. And I got virtually the same response with everyone - “You know uh, that’s no good, you don’t wanna go there, and a lot of people have gone there and not come back. It’s too dangerous, very dangerous. Go to Haleakala instead, nice hikes, I’ll take you there if you
    want.”

I asked a lot of people about taking me back in there and I got a lot of refusals, and heard a lot of different stories about why people didn’t come back out. The most common, logical story, was that it was such a treacherous climb, that people died, and that’s why they never came out. And then there were other stories that were pretty wild, like that there were dinosaurs in there. Another story was that it was just so incredibly paradisiacal in there, that nobody ever wanted to leave. Of course, nobody knew anything about the Atlantean/Lemurian stories.

Back then, they used to call the area the Moon Crater, and for some reason, all the businesses that used that name, like “Moon Crater Donuts” or whatever, changed their names at the same time. All of a sudden, it wasn’t supposed to be referred to that way, but rather, called the “West Maui Mountains”. This seemed to coincide with what may have been a government discovery of Lemurians, and/or tunnel access, and/or aliens. More than once, we saw a military hummer on an incredibly steep approach driving up towards the crater, and of course, unmarked helicopters. And, of course, these days there are “no trespassing” signs all around the area – some government, some private, that don’t make sense.

I have been trying for years to wake up family and friends as to the truth of what is our reality with very little success. They simply switch off when I discuss alternative media.

    But now. Finally?

Would all these descrepancies being noted by the general population world wide, and not just be people in the alternative community, indicate the world is waking up to the programming or not?

Well, don't tell them that New Zealand has moved!

But there are maybe half a dozen possible examples (not many more than that), which thousands of people seem to agree about, of anomalies that really do make one wonder.

Best refer to those, and not the weaker ones, which may very well not be valid. The list of examples doesn't have to be loaded up with so many that a skeptic (or a critical thinker) will pick on one of the many probable flawed ones and then dismiss the entire thing.

Very interesting, I recall the lion but I never read the Bible. I completely agree Bill about the list that may just be long due to hysterical reactions by people or those deliberately trying to make the phenomenon look silly and easily dismissed. I was doing just that until I hit on 2 absolutes and about 4 strong haunting maybes and they are not related to trivia.

Folks, read this carefully: I'd quite like to put this on record.

My own concern is that we might be getting pulled BACK into a NEGATIVE timeline. That's all crazy stuff, too, but may not be impossible.

All the YouTubers seem to think all this is a good thing. (Assuming it's real!) It may not be good at all. If Hillary does get elected, I'll be genuinely really, really worried.

    Reference: http://projectcamelot.org/t1v83.html

Sci-Fi scenario: imagine the elite have access to highly advanced, classified, time-manipulation technology, and are desperate to keep to their own agenda and NOT take the risk of accepting and dealing with Trump. Timeline manipulation may be what they'd turn to.

If the Mandela Effect is real, we may be seeing the symptoms of a forced reversion to that 2008 pro-Hillary timeline. If so, we'd all be pretty well cooked.

I find this so strange as I'm kind of obsessive with words or remember very well.

I've only seen "Sex and The City", for sure. Would be kind of hard to miss something that was always on TV.
