Is all NA getting this heat wave or is it just the north west?

... we're now on the extreme other end of the spectrum - very early and record breaking heat for this time of the year and for many places. Our local forecast here is saying 41C (106f) here for Tuesday, 40c for Monday, and high 30's (~100f+) for the following week, with overnight lows higher than our average highs for this time of year. That's not normal for here.

Kamloops, 2 hours drive south is forecast by some weather sites to get up to 46C(115f) with all days next week at or over 40C.

Even on the coast, Abbotsford is expected to have humidex ("realfeel" - or humidity and wind adjusted tempt) of 47c(117f) -- pretty sure a lot of records are expected to be broken.

    ...

Moscow, June 22 (AFP) Jun 22, 2021 – Moscow has been hit by a historic heat wave this week...

"The increase in temperatures recorded in Moscow for these days is unprecedented in 120 years," Roshydromet meteorologist Marina Makarova told AFP.

    ...

The Pacific Northwest sweltered Friday and braced for even hotter weather through the weekend as a historic heat wave hit Washington and Oregon, with temperatures in many areas expected to top out up to 30 degrees above normal. The extreme and dangerous heat was expected to break all-time records ...

There are reports that a tornado hit Barking, east London yesterday.

Tornadoes are extremely rare in Britain! From the BBC:

Quote A lightning strike and high winds have damaged houses, roads and vehicles in Barking, the Met Police has said.
Police were called to the Hulse Avenue area at about 19:20 BST after what officers described as a "weather-related incident".
Residents also reported damage to electrical equipment, street furniture and some surrounding roads.
Barking and Dagenham Council said there had been "severe weather damage" in the area.
Some locals described it as a "tornado" on social media.

A tornado is a rapidly rotating column of air that reaches between the base of a storm cloud and the Earth's surface, according to the Met Office.
If the column does not reach the surface, it is classed as a funnel cloud.
Most tornadoes, although they produce damaging winds, do not lead to widespread destruction.
The Met Police posted on Twitter: "There are no reports of any casualties. Officers are liaising with the local authority to ensure support is available to anyone affected by damage to property."

Canada is experiecing some of the weirdest weather I have ever seen. On Wednesday evening, the town of Lytton, British Columbia, was evacuated because of a wildfire - a day after it recorded Canada's highest ever temperature of 49.6C (121.3F) The hottest temperature ever recorded in Europe was 48 °C (118.4 °F) in both Athens and Elefsina, Greece on July 10, 1977.

The town of Lytton is basically burnt down now. Mostly destroyed. Some people are missing. The temps there for Monday and Tuesday exceeded the hottest recorded temp in Las Vegas. 49.6c (121.3f)

Where I am there was a fire that started by lightning just a few kms away from the house. It has been 40c - 41c (104 - 106f) here for the last four days (a nice cool 32c (90f) today), and yesterday a small storm started overhead. Then I noticed that the storm didn't seem to be tracking in any direction, and there was so much lightning that the thunder was just a continuous rumble with no start or end. The area became covered in a thick smoke and water bombers came filling up water from the lake. Ash and burnt tree needles rained down, but no actual rain fell at all -- which is odd.

The smoke from the fire was feeding the "storm cloud", which is why it wasn't moving, and why there was extreme amounts of thunder and lightning. It was all a bit surreal. Very strange actually ... the storm was very weird.

That fire, they were able to put out, but there is another one less than 30 mins drive away that is still burning and the residents around the lake where it is, have been put on immediate evacuation order.

    That's horrific DeDukshyn, I cannot comprehend 49C.

I don't know what Canadian summers are generally like, but I have a nagging suspicion that this extreme heat is.. 'unnatural'. What is your opinion?

Scores of heat records were broken across BC and Alberta this last week, 49.6c is a new all-time record for Canada - I think the previous record was ~45c.

Around 500 deaths have been attributed to the extreme heat so far - likely because of the duration (it was almost a week of it), and many people in Canada do not have air conditioning.

Where I am this was definitely record heat as well - Never seen it like this before.

BC does have a few hot spots that regularly can reach into the high 30's and low 40's - Ashcroft, Kamloops, Osoyoos, Oliver, Kelowna, Lytton are some of them, but those were the places hardest hit in this heat wave. A school in Osoyoos registered 51C at one point, but its an "unofficial" temp.

Nothing like this has happened to this extreme before. I'm glad its over ... we're getting around 30C(90f) now for the next couple weeks, and that would normally seem hot to me, but now, not so much, lol.

It was a bit smokey again last night but as far as I know the fires in my area are under control.

It must have been said before that these extreme temperatures and fires are probably Weather Wars against the people so they can start putting Climate Change on death certificates and pushing hard for severe changes and restrictions ushering in Agenda 21 / 30 etc...

I saw somewhere about the Climate Change Peddlers being envious of the Covid 19 Peddlers and wanted the same level of fearmongering and restrictions applied to their 'cause'....

edit to add... maybe I saw it in the other thread about Climate Change and Lockdowns.. dunno - but it was something specific about putting Climate Change as a cause of death on death certificates...

You're basically saying it can be as hot as the Arabian peninsula in summer, while being as cold as the arctic circle in winter. Jeez, that's a strange and quite extreme contrast to live with. I think I'm rather glad of our Atlantic gulf stream that keeps the UK mild year round. This is probably one of the few places on earth where it can be identical weather of 12C and raining on January 1st and July 1st respectively. We can get snow and ice and the occasional summer heatwave, sure, but it's rarely extreme and such spells don't last long.

But 500 deaths is tragic, and my heart goes out to all the people who've suffered through this. If it was ever 49C here I cannot imagine the carnage it would cause. Air conditioning simply does not exist, at all, except for cars as standard, shops/supermarkets perhaps, and select public buildings. We do not have screendoors and shutters on our windows. We have thick carpets and curtains and double-glazed windows; insulated roofs and walls. Our homes are built, exclusively, to trap heat. So when we do have a heat wave (considered to be anything 25C+), it is almost received as a national event, and time for some sunshine and fun. Until we come back indoors and it's like a sauna and no one can sleep! I don't think there'd be enough bodybags if ~50C hit these shores.

So blessed is that sweep of Atlantic air and cloud that keeps us (generally) cool. It's 19C and overcast today, heavy rain forecast for later. A very typical summer's day for these parts. And I'm bloody grateful for it.

My God, that's like putting Santa Claus as the cause of death after tripping over a Christmas present and cracking your skull. But really, nothing surprises me anymore so I don't doubt it.

You're basically saying it can be as hot as the Arabian peninsula in summer, while being as cold as the arctic circle in winter. Jeez, that's a strange and quite extreme contrast to live with.
    ...
Yup - true, from this last winter till last week we saw (at my current location) an 80C (176f) degree swing in temps. it doesn't always swing this much (this was the extreme ends), but if you just take the average temps, its still about a 30C swing between average winter and average summer temps for many places in Canada.

Its funny when people from say the Philippines or somewhere very warm, come to Canada in the summer, and they think "Oh its warm here, I thought Canada was cold!", then winter hits, and then we get two feet of snow and -30, Lol.

The west coast is the only exception -- its very temperate there, rarely any snowfall in the winter (just rain), and summer usually never exceeds ~26C. Its considered a temperate rainforest. Canada is a huge country, with almost every climate zone.

EXTREME WEATHER HITS around the world - juli 13, 2021 (13:29)
Heavy rain has caused chaos in some parts of Germany and neighboring Switzerland and storms are not forecast to let up soon. At least one person is missing, presumed dead, after being swept away in a flood.

Netherlands | Floods hit the Dutch province of Limburg, july 14, 2021 (4:46)
Floods were also reported in the Dutch province of Limburg as in Wittem between the borders of Belgium and Germany. This is a very unusual situation because if ever this happens - roughly once every 10 years - it takes place in February.

Jeez!! Go to 4:43 for photos and ground level video that's all rather hard to believe.

The countries worst hit are Germany and Belgium, with floods also in Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. (From the map below, one would expect in Poland as well.) There are dozens of detailed mainstream reports: search for "Floods in Europe".
