Question Where can I be free?

I want to explore my options of countries where I can relocate and start a life in. I currently live in the United States, and while it does have it's benefits, this lifestyle no longer resonates with me. My ideal lifestyle would be self sufficient, environmentally friendly, low cost, and naturally abundant. I prefer to be surrounded by nature, such as forests and beaches, and far from other people. My experience with the mass consciousness here in the population of NY so far, with some refreshing exceptions, is that of low vibrational being (fear and negativity), and disconnection from nature. I want to be free to grow my own food, catch my own rainwater, explore nature uninhibited, smoke cannabis as I please. I do not need anyone telling me how I should live, and do not need extreme government regulation as experienced here in the US, and would like to live a life with little government as possible. I understand there is a necessity to the extent to keep certain services available to enhance my life experience. I am willing to learn a new language if necessary. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations? Thank you for your time.

Taiwan is cool. Specially the East coast (I live in the North). Land in Hualien costs a lot, but you could lead a simple life there if you rented a farmhouse... You can't smoke dope there, you can get deported or even jailed.

Want to get stoned? Try Holland or Colorado.

Hmm Taiwan, I will add it to my list of travels. I lived in the US my entire life, and I am aware of how socially unaware we are here. So, to my knowledge I thought China was one of the most heavily government regulated places in the world? Unless it varies in location such as the country area?

Awakened Warrior We are all looking for that kind of place. I think we have to create it. I believe in 2017 you will start to see people leaving their old residences and lives and start creating their own lifestyles. It may take something like "the Event" from the galactic center and a complete collapse of our financial and political systems worldwide, but we haven't got anything better to do.
Of course, Hawaii is always nice, especially in the off tourist season.

Varies heavily on location. In Kunming, they say: "Beijing is over the hills and far away." I think the US is more of a police state than China. London is the surveilance capitial of the world.

You might like Kunming + Yunnan province. I lived there a few months. You can make a relatively good wage teaching English. They grow a lot of pot there and the police *normally* turn a blind eye. But if you get caught and get a 10 year sentence, don't blame me. IMO, it's dangerous to jeopordize a stay in an awesome Asian country, just for the sake of a spliff. Not lecturing anyone, just a strategic consideration.

    Sichuan is good too.

Taiwan is its own country with its own laws, but don't tell the Chinese that.

I agree, I also believe we have to create the reality of our lives. But I hope it doesn't have to come to a disastrous event or collapse in humanity to achieve actual freedom. The freedom people have experienced on the most basic level before the development of civilization.

Yea the US is definitely a militarized police state. Can't deny that.
Is Sichuan, and Kunming + Yunnan province a naturally abundant location? I really love nature, and I want to be surrounded by it.
And smoking cannabis isn't the main factor in my decision, I smoke it on and off for consciousness enhancing purposes. I agree, I wouldn't want to risk something amazing for something minor. But the principle I believe is I am free to smoke what I want, when I want, where I want. And if someone is going to tell me that a natural plant that has proven beneficial purposes can't be experimented with, then I am second guessing their intentions for my well being. Maybe that's just me.

I've been to every continent except Africa & a handful of countries on each.

Can't beat 'merica... I've been a few places in the continental states & it varies a LOT by region there as well.. I'd find somewhere in the US to transplant to, there's a lot of craziness out there that is not present in the US. Guam might be nice; everyone I meet from there seems pretty laid back.

Though I do like the Philippines a lot (but don't want to be anywhere near that region with current china south sea tensions).

Costa Rica has no standing army, varied climate from lowlands hot humid to mountain valleys cool, a lot of water, the ability to plant and live off the land and a relaxed attitude toward consumption. Cost to live here depends on what you need. Imports heavily taxed but fresh fruits, veggies, eggs, raw milk etc are reasonable. More or less a live and let live vibe.

I have lived in Belgium and also Mexico for extended periods of time. Doesn't look like Belgium is faring well and Mexico, no thank you. A life of bartering basically for your life in and out of the country, and especially if you drive a car. We happened to leave just as Echeverria was sending his helicopters over our home with guns pointing downward.

To find a country or island or hamlet that does not have aggressive control over the citizens will be difficult. Maybe Bali? I do agree with the post on Costa Rica. Remember the past governor of one of the midwestern states? Very vocal political speaker, had his own show. Sorry the name escapes me. He lived off the grid in Costa Rica.

I get that you want freedom from oppression. We all do. I don't believe there is a sovereign place we can exercise complete freedom unless you live on a desert island.
When you realize where you come from, you naturally become tolerant, disinterested, amused, kindhearted as a grandparent, dignified as a king. -- I Ching

We need to build it where we stand, or and, die trying. Otherwise at best we save ourselves and some close to us, at worst we save no one. A life under the radar, impacting no one and no thing, is nothing, it's not a life, unless you can sneek off a complete community with you.... Quote As of 2015, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, the Czech Republic, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Germany, the Netherlands, some U.S. states, Native American Indian reservations, and cities as well as some territories of Australia have the least restrictive cannabis laws while China, Egypt, France, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Norway, the Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam have the strictest cannabis laws.[3][4]
