Saudi Arabia using cluster bombs on Yemeni residential areas: UN

By David on 26 August 2016 GMT

‘The UN human rights office says the Saudi military is using cluster bombs against
residential areas in Yemen in violation of international law, blaming the Riyadh regime
for most of the civilian casualties in its impoverished southern neighbour. On Thursday,
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein called for the
creation of an independent international body to investigate cases of human rights
    violations in conflict-ridden Yemen.

“Civilians in Yemen have suffered unbearably over the years from the effects of a number
of simultaneous and overlapping armed conflicts,” Hussein said in a statement, adding that
“they continue to suffer…while those responsible for the violations and abuses against them
    enjoy impunity.”’

arms sales to Saudi Arabia amid the Riyadh regime’s onslaught of civilians in Yemen.
US Representative Ted Lieu’s office announced that the Democratic lawmaker is
circulating a draft letter to President Barack Obama, in which the signatories will
demand an end to America’s unconditional support for the kingdom.

“Any decision to sell more arms to Saudi Arabia should be given adequate time for

Yemeni Rebels Refuse to Meet UN Envoy in Protest Against Saudi Coalition Actions

By David on 21 August 2016 GMT

‘The delegation of Yemeni rebels who participated in the peace talks, has
rejected a new meeting with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh
Ahmed, in protest against the actions of the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia,
a source in the delegation told Sputnik Saturday.

The UN-brokered talks to end the Yemeni conflict started in Kuwait on April 21.
The talks ended in early August, with the government and Houthi rebels failing
to come to an agreement. As the talks wrapped up, the Houthi delegation flew
to Oman for consultation with local authorities. From there, they tried to return
to the Yemeni capital Sanaa, but failed over the government ban.’

Western Value... Making a Killing in Yemen

By David on 20 August 2016 GMT

    SPUTNICK NEWS....

‘The slaughter in Yemen just keeps getting worse, with civilians at the bloody forefront.
Yet, shamefully – moreover tellingly – there is no uproar in the Western media. The silence
is in spite of the fact that Western governments are profiting massively from supporting
the Saudi military actions in its southern neighbor. Where is the presumed high-minded
Western journalism to investigate this horror?

In the latest atrocity, on Monday, more than 10 civilian patients and one staff at a hospital
were killed when Saudi warplanes bombed the facility in the northern province of Hajjah.
The hit was confirmed by French-based medical charity, Doctors Without Borders, which
runs the hospital. It was the fourth time over the past year that a DWB facility in Yemen
    was targeted in air raids.’

Red Cross donates morgues in Yemen amid mounting civilian death toll

By David on 28 August 2016 GMT

‘With the humanitarian situation in Yemen growing ever more gruesome
amid the bombing campaign by Saudi-led coalition, the Red Cross tells RT
it had to provide the country with morgues as it is unable to deal with the
influx of the dead and the wounded.

“In many cases you had several bodies stuffed on one shelf, in one morgue
unit, so the situation was not sustainable, the hospitals asked for our support,
and we decided to donate morgues, which is something that we rarely do,”
Rima Kamal, Yemen-based spokeswoman for the Red Cross told RT, noting
that it’s not in the usual Red Cross practice to deal with morgues, as their
field of work mostly focuses on providing food, water and healthcare.’

US could be implicated in war crimes in Yemen: Documents
    Tue Oct 11, 2016 2:22AM

‘The United States could be implicated in war crimes for supporting Saudi Arabia’s
deadly military campaign in Yemen, American official documents show.

According to the documents obtained by Reuters, US government lawyers warned
Washington last year that it might be considered a “co-belligerent” in the Saudi war
under international law.State Department officials were skeptical of the Saudi military’s
ability to prevent the killing of civilians and the destruction of “critical infrastructure”
in its strikes against Yemen, according to the emails and other records as well as
interviews with nearly a dozen officials with knowledge of those discussions.

Nonetheless, the US government has continued to authorize weapons sales to Saudi
Arabia, showed the documents, which date from mid-May 2015 to February 2016.’

‘The United States and Britain are fully aware of the civilian nature of Saudi Arabia’s
targets in Yemen and yet continue to provide the regime in Riyadh with weapons and
intelligence required to hit them, a new report has revealed.

According to a report published by The Intercept on Monday, London and Washington
“have indiscriminately and at times deliberately” led Saudi warplanes to strike civilian
targets in Yemen during the kingdom’s months-long military aggression against its
southern neighbor, which has killed more than 10,000 Yemenis since its onset in March 2015.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir acknowledged in January that British and American

One option is the Saudi alliance and their mercenaries have got bogged
down in the classic no win situation . The US & UK who both have close
ties to the Saudi royals and massive trade deals have tried to keep the
conflict off the mainstream news unlike Syria, but reports do get thru.

This may be a one off retaliatory strike ? or a staged event to open the
way for more direct support for Saudi ? I doubt they will take that rout
unless they have too. But with all these plans and agenda they can be
    driven or altered by events.......

To be fair this is being broadcast in some Arab/muslim media.....

Since early 2015 Yemen has been gripped by civil war, with forces backed by a Saudi
coalition fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Since the start of the conflict, Britain has
sold nearly £3bn worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia, a dictatorship accused of war crimes
and human rights breaches by several NGOs. I went to speak to Yemenis whose lives
have been destroyed by the conflict and asks Sir Alan Duncan, governmental special
envoy to Yemen, if the British people should be questioning their links to the Saudi
    regime more.

Default Re: US supported conflict in Yemen

Did the US just commit a False Flag in Yemen?

    Yuri Podolyaka, cont.ws - translated by J. Arnoldski - October 13, 2016 - Fort Russ -

The US is a master at creating provocations that lead to war. Many of the Americans’ wars of conquest have begun with alleged attacks on their soldiers or civilians after which the army and navy of one of the most powerful states in the world invades another people’s territory.

On Thursday, October 13th, Reuters reported “another” Houthi attack on the USS Mason destroyer. Two anti-ship missiles were supposedly launched at the ship but missed, but the American ship was compelled to strike back and destroy a radar station on Yemeni territory.

Afterwards, the Pentagon published a rather interesting message: “Those who threaten our forces should know that U.S. commanders retain the right to defend their ships, and we will respond to this threat at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner.”

There is much interesting here, but we’ll get to this later. First, let’s retrace the chain of events.

On October 1st, 2016, an American high-speed HSV-2 military transport, leased to the UAE for rapidly transporting troops between Yemeni ports, was attacked. The ship, which has a cruising speed of over 40 knots, was ideally useful and even indispensable for quickly transporting troops from one front to another.

As we can see, the ship burned out completely after the attack and will most likely never return to surf the ocean again.

Then, on October 10th, 2016, the US stated that its Mason destroyer had been attacked by two missiles which, before reaching the ship, fell into the water. Two days later, the attack was supposedly repeated but with the same failed result.

The Houthis’ arsenal in Yemen includes “Nur” coastal anti-ship rocket complexes of Iranian production. Each of corresponding missiles has a firing range of 120 km and a payload of around 150 kg. The HSV-2 and Mason destroyer were attacked near the port of Mokha, which is only 50 km away from the shores of Eritrea. How could the rocket have not made it to its target, especially if 2 were launched, and then another 2 were launched two days later? If they had been launched with the help of electronic warfare guidance, i.e., those radar stations, then the US could have simply said the the attack failed or was deflected. But the question here is not about bragging. There were hundreds of sailors on the ship who could spill the beans about what really happened.

If you shoot at a passing destroyer with any close-range missile complex, even at night, then the missiles will, of course, fall into the water, and then the world can talk about the treachery of the Houthis. And the ship’s crew might even have seen what happened. In fact, the port of Mokha is situated close to the front line, and therefore the Houthi supporters of Hadi easily could have produced such a strike.

If the Americans really did bother about these spectacles, then they could have thought through and invented the story from beginning to end.

It also cannot be said that the American ship was attacked by mistake. Dozens of vessels go through the strait daily and not a single one has been hit by a mistaken strike. Much less has one been shot at more than once. Moreover, confusing a 10,000 ton ship at a distance of 20-30 km for a light Saudi Arabian or UAE warship is simply impossible.

Even taking into consideration the disagreements between the US and Saudi Arabia, the Americans are continuing to support the Saudis. Iran and Russia are the enemies of the United States, and it is unlikely that Washington will allow Russia to gain a foothold in the region. Any coastal missile system which can successfully attack an American military ship in the Bab El-Mandeb strait is therefore a threat to them, and needs to be removed.

Hence why they came up with this provocation. Most likely, the American destroyer simply patrolled the area for a few days and waited until the coastal radar station would work, and then struck. In order to cover up this act of aggression against a foreign country in the information space, they came up with the story of a failed attack which no one except themselves knows.

Judging by the Pentagon’s statement, they will continue to patrol the region and strike at radar systems which the US deems dangerous. In general, one can consider these actions by the US to be their reaction to a failed Houthi attack on their military ship rented to the UAE. But will this have further consequences? Definitely. The Houthis will have to stop attacking ships or their systems (especially radar stations) will be rapidly destroyed.

Will the Americans launch more strikes? There is too little information to analyze this. But the first and most important step towards this have already been taken. The pretext is the first strike. From now on, it’ll be easier. And after a year, everyone will forget about this.

Iran has deployed a fleet of warships to the Gulf of Aden, the republic's naval commander has confirmed. The deployment follows US cruise missile strikes on Yemeni positions thought to be under Houthi rebel control.

The Iranian Navy has sent the warships to international waters for a mission that includes entering the area off the southern coast of Yemen, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari confirmed on Wednesday. The area is among the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

“The fleet will provide security to sea ways for Iranian vessels and protect Iran’s interests on the high seas,” Sayyari told Press TV.

“The 34th Fleet is comprised of the Bushehr logistic vessel and Alborz destroyer, and will conduct a three-month mission.”

The commander said the fleet had departed from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas in Iran. He dismissed claims the fleet has been deployed to intervene in the conflict in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia, which has fought a long war with Yemen’s Houthi rebels, accuses Iran of supporting the group – a charge denied by Tehran.

The US military carried out “limited self-defense strikes” in Yemen on Thursday, in retaliation for recent attacks on an American naval destroyer, USS Mason, which has been operating north of the Bab Al-Mandab Strait.

According to the Pentagon’s initial assessments, three “radar sites” in the Houthi rebel-controlled area of Yemen were destroyed in the attack.

The attack on coastal targets was carried out by Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from the destroyer USS Nitze, NPR reported.

The Houthis have denied carrying out the attack, however. A military source reportedly told Saba news agency – a media outlet run by the group – that the assault did not come from areas under its control.

British and US-made bombs killing civilians in Yemen

    Yemen country profile

    10 August 2016

Despite its ancient roots as the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East and Asia, the modern
Republic of Yemen is a relatively new state. It was created after communist South Yemen
and traditional North Yemen merged in 1990, following years of strife. Tensions remain
between the north and the south, however. A southern separatist movement was defeated
in a short civil war in 1994, and tensions re-emerged in 2009 when government troops and
rebels, known as the Houthi, clashed in the north, killing hundreds and displacing more than
a quarter of a million people.A fresh wave of protests in 2011, inspired by the Arab Spring
uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, forced then-President Ali Abdallah Saleh to resign.

Yemen has also become a base for militant groups, like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State, adding
to instability in the country. The country spiralled into civil war in 2014 and, despite peace
    initiatives, fighting continues.
