    Default How to manifest (and the mistakes that many people make)

    Dear All:

    I wrote this out for a friend recently, and it occurred to me that I really should share this more widely.

    To manifest things for oneself, to be the creator of one's own universe — at least to some small extent! — is something that many in alternative culture talk about, and seek to do.

    But many make some profound mistakes, and I noticed a couple of forum posts about this just yesterday.

    The core of what makes this work is the following:
    • Operating at a high enough altruistic level that one is also considering the needs and wants of everyone else around.
    • Not being too prescriptive. This is a metaphor (really! ), but you'll get the point: just tell God what you really want, but don't be so dumb as to tell him how to deliver it all.

    Here's the lowdown:

    ~~~
    1) When envisioning something, always visualize how it makes you FEEL. That's far, far more powerful than trying to second-guess or prescribe a specific outcome.
    For instance, if wanting to manifest a job, or a home, or a person... the specifics are NOT important. What counts is that you're happy, delighted, satisfied, empowered. The 'FORM' can take care of itself. It's only the 'FUNCTION' that counts.
    A simple example that most people can identify with: if wanting to manifest a partner who's to be the love of your life, what they LOOK like just doesn't matter.
    Tall or short, nationality, background, even skin color or religion... all that matters is that they love you and are committed to be with you (many manifesters forget that part, they really do ) — and that you're really, really happy about this new person being in your life, with growth and abundance of all kinds to follow for you both.
    That's why the FEELING is more important than any visual image.
    ~~~

    2) Similar, is that some people try to manifest money. We can all understand that, but the real question is what they want the money FOR. If they want it so they can travel, or live in a beautiful home, or make some debts go away.... there may be OTHER ways that those outcomes can happen.

    Focusing on money may even be a restriction, because one's not allowing for other kinds of miracle to happen. (Like a gift of a plane ticket, or the opportunity to house-sit in a beach-front villa for a year, or all your tax records to be mislaid by the government. )

    ~~~
    3) Another mistake that many can make is to wish for something that (if it were to manifest) would result in another's detriment. That's karmically uncool (and unwise!), and is also unlikely to work out well.
    An example of that might be that if one was in love with a married person, to find oneself wishing that their marriage might end so they were free to be with you.
    Besides the visualization of how it might make you FEEL (see above ^^), what's also really important is to wish NO HARM to your new partner's spouse. They need to be factored into this as well, so that everyone wins.
    Have THEM meet the person of their dreams as well, so that everyone lives happily ever after.
    That's not just being 'nice' or 'kind'. It's pragmatically powerful, because you're aligning with/ recruiting the power of the other person's wish for good things— as well. You're not getting into a tug of war with someone else's OPPOSITE intention, which can result in a logjammed deadlock.
    That can also apply for jobs, in a job interview situation. If you know you've been shortlisted for a job with (say) two other candidates, always remember not only to intend to manifest that job (or, much better, 'A' job) for yourself, but also for your competitors. Make it all work for them, too — in any way at all.
    Making sure that EVERYONE wins is one of the keys to making it all work out for yourself. It's all about big-picture optimization. Or else, one's personal attempts to manifest become a kind of magical, forceful, manipulation, which isn't at all a wise route to go down.
    ~~~

    4) There are many tricks and techniques for manifesting that do work. Here's just one, that I know works from my own personal experience.

    Robert Fritz
    is an interesting man. He's been doing this for some time now, and in the last 20-25 years he's likely to have developed what he does a lot further.

    The simplest form of his technique is a kind of mental trick (which takes a little practice). You do a TWIN visualization — two things at once, like holding one thing in each mental 'hand', at the same time.

    It works like this: —>
    a) You visualize the current situation, in every single tiny detail. Just holding that multi-sensory mental image in one's mind, including everything you're thinking and feeling about it. (And this even includes peripheral add-on thoughts that might be there, like "I really doubt I can do this", etc.) Just tell the entire truth to yourself about exactly how things are, right now.

    b) AT THE SAME TIME, you visualize the outcome you want, in the same fine detail. (And also, if appropriate, even your feelings of surprise and delight that this has actually worked.)

    c) The 'magic' is that you then hold them together, and focus on that, like a kind of meditation. Just do it all the time, in every spare moment, when you're on the train or driving or sitting quietly eating a meal or having a cup of tea on your own. Train yourself to keep these two rich images there, side by side, all the time. For small things, it might take just a very short time; but for major goals it might take days, or longer.

    d) What happens is that the ‘structural tension’ between the two is like a really strong, unbreakable, piece of elastic. There's even a degree of mental discomfort and 'effort', which actually should be there in order to make it work.

    e) At some point — the future manifestation becomes PULLED to the present one, and then they merge. The future visualization is now the present reality, and there's no more 'tension'. It's clever stuff.

    f) In his seminars (which I did a long time ago), he advises one to practice on small-scale, short-term goals first. Even like parking places, or wanting something to be in stock when going shopping. Have it be a fun, lightweight game.
    When one gets good at it, after some interesting smaller-scale successes, and one starts to get confident, and the mental ‘tension trick’ becomes easier, then start to ramp it all up to address the big stuff.

    ~~~
    5) A final point about ALL of this. (And I could have added this in earlier. ^^ ) It's often counter-productive to specify DEADLINES.
    That's a bit like insisting that the love of your life is tall, dark, and gorgeous. You might be accidentally completely working against yourself. (They might be short, fair and plain, but who cares: if they're the soulmate love of your life, they're the soulmate love of your life.)
    Remember the metaphor that if you jump, the angels will catch you. Don't specify WHEN the angels should do that.
    Just ask that the angels turn up. Whether they catch you 300 ft from the ground — or 3 inches — doesn't actually matter... at all.
    I use visualization and what I term "realization".
    I just put as much effort as I can muster into building the most detailed, realistic version of what I want in my mind (and attach as much emotion to it as you can) and hold that image and desire. (intent is probably key, but it's easy for me to think altruistically most the time) Then I convince myself that it's real, it's a forgone conclusion..
    Then, because I'm skeptical, I have dry erase boards up in most rooms of my house & make sure and write notes on how to achieve said desire via normal means
    Not sure which one is more impactful.. .but it works
    Very worthwhile post Bill.
    You can see how the stresses put on our: mind, body, material resources, family and soul by the PTW to diminish our ability's to manifest.
    They are relentlessly putting onto us the pressures and negative energies to take us away our natural condition.
    Our natural condition that is: Healthy, Empowered, Clear-minded and Happy.
    So much of our self is taken away from us being the real us.
    So taking the time to be outside of their stress world by meditating on: personal empowerment, happiness, clear mindedness and true state of being goes a long way towards personal manifesting.
    I have been hoping for a thread about this, so perhaps it is working for me a little! Thanks Bill! 🙂
    I also now better understand why it hasn't been working - I have been totally bombarded with bad stuff - it is like trying to swim in mud - finding a good thought in my mind or even if I try to meditate, there is so much trouble around me that that is all I can think of!! It is very very hard to find a positive in here - any suggestions for when a person is in this position?
    Hi Patient
    Try to change your day to day path, change your viewed input.
    SAY NO to negatives every time you become conscious of them, even if you think you can't change them, don't let them own you.
    Try meditate on the memories of the good things in your: Past, Present and Future.
    I have observed that there definitely is power in the ways that we think and the way we look at things and that this can change the circumstances of the world around us. I wonder however, if a life is better spent trying to learn techniques to get things the way you want them or to be friendly with moment as it is? Having said this, I do not mean to suggest that being in acceptance of the here and now would not warrant changing things in some circumstances.
    Yes, peterpam, life is a delicate balancing act, isn't it?! Sometimes a "clean break" is the only way to go! Many times that in itself is slow in coming because of the programming of one's childhood. Do I sound like I speak from experience?!
    One reason why the Robert Fritz technique can work is that literally half of it is the importance of telling the entire truth about the way things are just now, internally and externally. That means facing it squarely, and noting all your thoughts and feelings about it.
    This is why positive affirmations on their own often don't work.
    If you stand in the road, and a truck is heading for you, and you say: "There is no truck! There is no truck! There is no truck!" — it'll hit you anyway.
    You have to tell the truth about the truck. AND tell the truth about what you'd like to experience as an outcome.
    So, @ Patient:
    1) Don't be in denial. Don't even resist what's happening. Tell the entire truth about the way things are. Be the meticulous observer and reporter, including of yourself and all your thoughts and feelings.
    2) ALSO visualize (with an emphasis on your feelings) how you want things to be. Remember to include the optimum well-being of others: don't get into manifestation fights with others who want something that seems to oppose your intentions.
    It's the combination of the two — the current, and what's more optimum — that makes it work.
    I use the words 'what's more optimum' because the whole secret of manifestation is NOT 'trying to get what you want'.
    If you want things to be the best way they can be, then your own well-being is INCLUDED in that big picture. It may all be much more simple than most people may first assume.
    The trap is that much of modern society is all about trying to get what we think we want — just for ourselves. That often creates logjams, and stuck energy.
    Yes, deadlines are the best way to kill manifestation. I know
    this from past experience. Also, I agree not to over specify.
    Sometimes that is difficult for me to control with my
    engineering background.
    Very interesting discussion Bill. These days I tend to think that we are constantly travelling in time and space and what comes our way is the stuff that crosses a certain point in time and space from all directions, from moment to moment. The travelling and what determines the type of travel, where when, is in our unique being in each moment. So the difference between say doing what you want as oppose to doing what you don't want is a difference in feeling/being and this in turn causes a travel to very different locations in time and space. When you do stuff that impacts on the inner being, you are constantly drifting towards a corresponding time space location and hence you are impacting on your ability to predict the future. If you already have decided to do something in the future and commit to it, your inner being is already sensing some of the outcome of that and hence you are already travelling to a more unexpected location in time and space without yet having done anything. This is where portals cone in, because the decision about doing something in the future and then doing it (it will be at a certain time and space) this has now become a portal you are travelling towards and hence this in turn means you are as a result not travelling through a set of other portals. This in turn must to some degree impact on what is going to happen.
    So this then seems to indicate that the simple thing of being relaxed in your own being as yourself no matter what and explore creation this way, might be a process of travelling home to where you truly want to be. Various other types of results might be pure impossibilities in this mode although the mind tries to lock you into particular expectations about what can happen around the corner.
    Being combined with doing takes you through certain portals in time and space.
    All of this could be false, I am mostly just playing with this idea as a possibility.
    Beautiful. Thank you, Bill.
    I have the general feeling that life is (sort of) unfolding in the way the Greater Dreamer lets it lucidly unfold. But, still, I want to be able to help others as much as I can and to help myself by understanding myself more. I find that trying to understand myself by focussing on myself, too much, doesn't get me very far and is fraught with illusions. It is better to observe others and try to feel what they are feeling that self perception is enhanced.
    I have been able to manifest extraordinary mutual understanding by asking my guides to help facilitate this experience. What may come easy for others required some kind of supernatural miracle for me!
    Thanks so much, Bill! These are invaluable techniques!
    I have always used mantras to "manifest", & always with the proviso that no Being should come to any harm (& the expressed wish that I not be used as a vehicle for the heavy Karma of any other Being) but I shall put your advice into practice.
    BTW does anyone know of a way to manifest rain in drought stricken areas? I am not having any success!
    And PS: Would you be willing to share the details of your manifesting experiences, Bill? (No pressure! )
    @Kirolak: One man was studing prayers trhough out the world and he highlighted an Indian Elder who wanted to pray for rain, the elder told him he was going to do the prayer, so the man stood there silently with note book and pencil, holding on to the moment, then the elder turned back and said "let´s eat something i am hungry, The man astouningly asked "What did you do" The Indian answered " i imagined myself happyly jumping on the puddles" within 3 days rain came.
    I guess that you´ll need to add "for the wellbeing of all" and if it is posible more people do it at the same time it will be stronger/faster
    I figure what it boils down to is one's perception of personal happiness;
    if my read sources are correct John Lennon's grade school class was given the assignment to write down what they wanted to be when they grew up-
    John Lennon wrote: "happy"
    his teacher told him "you didn't understand the nature of the question";
    Lennon answered: "you don't understand the nature of life"-
    I have been hoping for a thread about this, so perhaps it is working for me a little! Thanks Bill! 🙂
    I also now better understand why it hasn't been working - I have been totally bombarded with bad stuff - it is like trying to swim in mud - finding a good thought in my mind or even if I try to meditate, there is so much trouble around me that that is all I can think of!! It is very very hard to find a positive in here - any suggestions for when a person is in this position?
    Sometimes when I think it's all negative, as you're describing, it helps to ask what the blessing in it is. And then really listen and be grateful. We're given the pain so we pull our hand away from the hot stove; we're given the fear so we don't inadvertently go stepping off the cliff; we're given the discomfort of a crappy job so we're compelled to look for another one.
    Also, do look for the positive in something - even if it is as simple as a flower, or a chocolate chip cookie or ice cream cone. And then be hugely, even overly grateful for that. Some people write down 5 "grateful for's" every morning. It shifts the energy nicely.
    So we, humans, are really just a collection of trillions of cells working together to a common goal, not really a single "entity" persay, more of a "collective".
    I view the planet as probably something similar (fractal nature of reality and all...).
    So forcing the planet to do something it doesn't want to do (or attempting to force, rather) doesn't seem like it lines up.
    I'm pretty limited on my "REQUESTS TO THE COSMOS" (haha) and have found that the more SELFISH I am, the better it works; the less "resistance" my request has the more successful; I try to make my requests align with the momentum of my life.. I feel it's easier for the over all "pattern" to accept those types of changes.
    Now, I think "selfish" as a term has a bad connotation, so I'll expand a bit: by selfish i mean focused on the self at no expense to others (or as limited as possible). I've had a few significant moments happen, but normally only when it's focused on me or my family (an extension of me) and something that aligns with my life already, not something drastically different (trying to manifest a job in a field I'm already qualified in at a location that is desirable vs trying to become the POTUS of the USA with no alignment to my life's current path).
    So, yeah, I think we don't understand this here planet and we shouldn't try to tell her what to do & I never thought this worked on "a large scale" or when it effected many other people (violation of free will, lots of slippery slopes there).
    Though I value acceptance over resistance, mostly because I'm starting to understand how little I understand. (maybe that drought is needed?)
