Vaknin is the real deal in Narcissism and Psychopathy expertise. Israeli, PhD in finance and PhD in psychology, he has been researching and publishing on the topic since late 1990’s, wayyyy before the social networks craze on narcissism.

Vaknin, a self confessed narcissist, wrote the book "Malignant Self Love". One of the most harrowing books I have ever read. It details all the Narcissist tactics to acquire narcissistic supply . If you want to truly understand Narcissism it's the book to read.

I have been following Sam Vaknin for years on youtube.
The insights he has are amazing. It has given me so much understanding of how much of human interaction is occuring.
certainly Trump is a grandiose Narcissist, so its at the core of everything he is doing.

1. Emotional Indifference
Not anger, not tears. Not explanations. Your lack of emotional reaction cuts off their supply.

2. Someone who sees patterns, not potential
Once you stop hoping they'll change and start seeing who they "consistently" are, their power weakens.

3. Boundaries they can't negotiate
Clear, calm non-emotional boundaries terrify them because manipulation no longer works.

4. Being exposed without drama
Quiet truth, consistency and facts--not public explosions--are what truly threatens them.

5. Losing control over the narrative
When you stop defending yourself and let your behavior speak, they panic.

How about when it's your own doctor/surgeon and you have no choice but to communicate with them?
I was just browsing recent threads (only look around this place maybe twice a year) and saw the title. Had to click considering it seems the entire world is full of them. Not all narcissists are so outwardly obvious. There are those who are masters of their environment and have 1,000 subtle ways to demean and hurt those they personally deem weaker than themselves. Their best friends are equal narcissists who will nourish their egoes and status in the world. Also, it seems that political orientation really has no affiliation on how clever some of these people are. Trump is often cited as the most classic example, but I find that liberal minded highly educated narcissists/sociopaths seem to be far more dangerous because they're clever enough to cover it up; they're master chameleons to be honest - where as someone like Trump is just so blatantly unashamed of his personality it matters not to him how it looks to anyone.
