The best pics of structures on the dark side of the moon we have thus far come from China. Pretty fascinating.

I also remember that the USA, in a gargantuan fit of hubris, nuked a crater on the dark side of the moon a few years ago. We actually nuked one of those "man" made structures!

The backside of the moon is the side that never faces earth. The moon only spins once per orbit of earth which means we never see the other side. the dark side of the moon is simply the side that is in darkness which changes just like on earth depending on its relation to the sun and earth.

There is never a side of the moon that is always dark, but there is a side that never faces earth.

All the structures on the moon are supposedly on the backside.

Think of it this way; when you see a crescent new moon, the side that always faces earth is in almost total darkness. Therefore the side facing away from the earth is in sunlight.

It seems to confuse many people who are unfamiliar with astronomy, and trying to explain why one side of the moon always faces earth is a tricky one!

Just look up lunar tidal lock on Youtube. There are plenty of clear, short videos explaining it. Here's one:
