Just found this great infographic from 'Wendy':

For non-CompSci-people, the picture simplified:

1. Imagine 'token' as a piece of paper, with some random letters
written: "dfkjf", other piece: "eruidf", and so on.

2. These 'tokens' are 'sorted', and correlated to other tokens by
their use in written texts.

3. We now have an 'AI' (LLM).

4. Your query 'provokes' a prediction in an LLM. A token is found, and
others after that. A long queue of pieces of paper.

5. Those little pieces of paper with random letters mean -- nothing.

6. AI 'God' has spoken to you.

BTW: Scaling, emergence, etc. were well known beliefs during 'AI 1.0',
30-40 years ago, when symbols (selected tokens) were studied. Nothing
useful ever emerged by scaling.
