Some days you just have to go for it. Rockhopper penguins are among the smallest penguin species, standing approximately 18 to 21.5 inches (45 to 55 cm) tall and weighing between 4.5 and 8 pounds (2.0 to 3.8 kg). They are distinguished by their red eyes, orange beaks, pink webbed feet, and distinctive yellow and black spiky crests above their eyes. Unlike most penguins that slide on their bellies, rockhoppers are named for their ability to hop nimbly over rocky terrain and boulders in their harsh, cliffside habitats.
The word nimbly might be debatable.

4 cubs is somewhat rare, but we videoed (and sent the video to the state wildlife folks) documenting 5 cubs, smaller than these (update - maybe not, about the same), led by their mama in our garden a few years ago.

Journalist in Peru captures same animals 8 years apart and the internet is in tears While documenting pollution at a landfill outside Lima, a journalist spotted something she never forgot: a stray dog gently bringing food to a tiny kitten hiding near an old fridge.

Eight years later, she returned to finish her study and froze. The kitten was now a grown cat.
The dog was old, gray, and tired.

A bobcat crossed the road on my walk yesterday. She was about 1/8 mile (.20 k) away. She was in the field just beyond the barn.

My landlord happen to be outside and he guessed that is was the same one that recently walked across the driveway by the barn and another time she was behind it where the chickens graze.

From the internet: Bobcat are common (here). The rural landscape, dense forests, and abundance of wildlife (like rabbits and squirrels) create an ideal habitat. Sightings frequently occur in backyards, near wooded areas, and at local nature sanctuaries.

It was years after watching Rupert Sheldrake demonstrating dogs ability to know the moment their owners made the decision to return home, that I realised it was the case with my dog. Neighbours had occasionally said that she howled when left alone, but because I had only ever heard her mournful howl a couple of times I didn't pay much attention.
Of course it was because she knew I was returning that she didn't howl, and the couple of times I heard her, she had been sick, or worse, which Sheldrake's documentary had said did interfere with this psychic ability.

Since I lived in Australia for 14 years, I got to see Blue Fairy Wrens several times. They are teeny-tiny, and I got so excited the first time I saw one.
Birdwatching was the highlight of my life there- especially the Rainbow Lorikeets. Again I was so amazed the first time I saw a flock, and in Queensland they gather in the thousands.
