Can you teach me how to get my hands through the internet in order to choke the life out of virus writers? Our PC is crashed at home due to the latest scam Anti-virus offer. What a slick scam it is. "Wow, your computer is sick with a deadly virus (as everything goes wild on your desktop). Here, quick, buy this software from us, the very people who put the virus on your PC".
I KNOW this could be stopped if they wanted to. Too many people making money from the scams, legit and hackers both. |

It was embedded in an AD running on a site I visited. I got rid of it in about 15 minutes but I don't recommend the methods to a normal user. I had to run in safe mode...kill a few programs running and edit the registry. Not pretty.... But I would go with Spregs advice about changing virus scan programs... I went with Micro Trends AV and the next time that occurred...it blocked it. Hope this helps....SG |

Hello friends,
I am pretty good at embedding youtube videos now. Thanks to your help. It is much appreciated. However I wonder how to go about vids I am finding on dailymotion or Vimeo. For example how to embed this vid here ? : http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k2Z28HraPtwO1QNNOc I surrounded k2Z28HraPtwO1QNNOc by brackets and put dailymotion into them with no success. I then tried with dailymotion.com .. with no success ![]() Love from me mudra |

Wow...nice thread here...can save us
millions upon zillions of dollars..... that being said....I have a couple of questions about this dinosaur I'm running.. or so I've been told....to me its still brand new. us old timers think when we purchase something it ought to last at least my lifetime.... ![]() I am disheartened with the disposable world we live in today. ![]() Should I or can I upgrade with a few new cards I can install or would it not be worth it? I will await your response and will go look up all the model number RAM and stuff..... Thank you.......Namaste.....Freedom

If you for example wish to change the CPU, you also have to change the motherboard and that is practically buying a new PC...etc Also with the change of motherboard also comes the change of slots....and hardware you can or can not connect. RAM upgrade can make your PC run faster but do not expect too much. You can only upgrade if you have a free slot on your motherboard...or if you replace one of the current inserted sticks with a new one with more memory. Also the new RAM should be of the same type and frequency as the old one. etc... or You can simply invest cca 600EUR into new PC and it will work wonders. Try to get at least 2 year guarantee. If you want to play new PC games and if you want to play all the latest and future to be released games the cost can be 2 to 3 times more. Do not buy anything from Sony. Do not buy Vista. You only need 64bit system if you have more than 4gigs of RAM. 64bit systems tend to have some compatibility problems - not all programs work If you intend to buy a laptop i recommend Toshiba or Lenovo...price range 1000EUR should get you a nice laptop. Laptops are not intended for games! .... |

If you are a normal user...changing processors...adding memory can be tricky. You can usually get a netbook at Walley World for around $200 If you have model numbers and the year you purchased the Brontosaurus...I can recommend a path. SG |

Thank You.......
Spregovori and Stargazer1965.... and such a speedy reply too! but it doesn't sound good. The truth is I don't want to purchase a new one.... I've said that before...first 8 tracks then albums....here comes cassettes...and I put my foot down as I purchased those CD's and I refuse (ha) to get the MP3....(hate being told what I am suppose to do) But I am logical enough to know that I can't keep throwing good money after bad....(that free world better hurry up and get here) so....I got this in 2000; Dell Dimension DIM4300 Pentium 4 only 1.60 GHz 640 MB of RAM 32 bit Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3 I don't play video games and don't think I will... I do watch a lot of videos and play a bunch of music (have some nice Harman/Kardon speaker system) and I take photographs etc......so to me its an over glorified word processor or typewriter as we called them at one time... with a TV and Stereo too boot...... And I don't know squat about them but could install new cards and boards as I have been inside them before...but other than that and throwing in a disc or two or hollering for some help.... I would like a new computer but I don't like Wally world at all avoid them like the plague....and I like my big screen....hate all the cords everywhere! So I guess I could be a candidate for a new laptop...its just not high on the list right now so if it could wait for another year that might be better..... My biggest question is I have all this wonderful stuff saved on my computer and I would hate to loose it....what can I do and is it easy to transfer? Thanks guys.....much respect for your being brainiacs.... much LOVE and many BLESSINGS for you......Freedom |

Buy a 2,5 or 3,5 external hard drive if you have large amounts of data, or buy for example a 16gig USB key.... put your data on it....

I have another question...do you think my system will eventually crash and never return? Does that happen because the rest of computer land keeps updating and mine can't handle it? This has happened to me before I got this one..... Just how long is a computer suppose to last? I would really like one of those computers that I saw in the movie Avatar...with the 3-D screen that wraps around....now that would be cool...and if the sold them at Wally World...I might go there to purchase one if they would sell one for a few beans.... ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks again......Namaste.....Freedom |

I have been having a lot of problems with Firefox over the last month or two. When I try to load a page......it comes up "firefox not responding"....& of course I get frustrated after waiting 10mins..........then I'm trying again & again & my screen freezes for another ten mins. I swear sometimes, I can try to open a link & go vacuum my entire house, come back & its still trying to load. I feel like this
right now with my laptop. Yesterday Firefox popped up with a update to 3.6 version, which I did. But that little upgrade took out my mini program eQuake alert gone, gone, gone. I tried to download it again, but its not compatible with the new upgraded Firefox....... . I miss my equake alert. Oh yea and my computer is so slow...![]() Guys, got any pearls of computer wisdom. Save me please from computers? Oh. my laptop is Dell Inspiron 6400, (2MB/1.73GHz/533MHz) then this: 1GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 D1mm for Inspiron. Got it Mar. 2007. What ever happened to the Startrek computer, where you just talk to it & it answers you back with answers & advice. I want that one. ![]()

Maybe there is a lot of cookies stored I happened to come across this article by George Ure of HPH. on cookies. Would like your feedback on this software.....because I was thinking of downloading it, to see if it cleans things up. But it might be for more sophisticated users. Cookie Video The folks at Maxa Research have put together a short video (sound track by guess who?) that shows the Maxa Cookie Manager. You can see it here. http://www.maxa-tools.com/video.php?aref=32&v=2 I don’t usually get all whipped up about software, but this is one of those dandy tools that just simply works great. First thing I put on my new computer when I got it was Avira Anti-virus and Maxa Cookie Manager (MCM). Either follow the on-screen download instructions of simply click: http://www.urbansurvival.com/setupMCMstdGU.exe Once you try it out, to upgrade to the fully functioning version, just click the upgrade button (!) on the upper right hand side for the $35 unlock to get it to remove even those nasty and highly intrusive ‘non-browser specific’ cookies. Bonus: You computer may run faster. Not for Mac’s: MCM does support the Safari Browser, but that does not mean it is compatible with Mac OS. Maxa-Tools only support the Windows world….so far. Give them time… |
