Anyone can buy a domain and redirect it to any other website they wish. I could register satan-is-king.com and redirect it to whitehouse.gov if I wanted to.

Don't you have to own the domain that you're redirecting to?

Of course not. Many people own personal domains and when you go to the URL it automatically redirects to their myspace, facebook, etc.
