Flying Pyramid, you lucky devil! You have hit upon one of my favorite "unvoiced, pet theories" so... lemme throw it out and see how it goes.

The word is firmament.

type in the word, and let fly. it comes up with 15 references. Here are a few:

And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

From here on, we leave the worlds of scripture and science behind, and descend into the mental musings of Fred.

First, whatever the firmament is, it isn't simply "the heavens" most nowadays assume. After all, it seems to have some connection with water. That it was something which divided water on the earth from water overhead.

Then comes "the flood". and in that tale it says that the firmament opened up, and essentially the water above joined the water below.

"Hmmmm...", says I.

So, we have a magnetosphere now; but what if there really was more a ways back?

Whether taken literally as a body of water suspended in the sky, a permanent could or mist barrier... however you interpret that thing up there, it means there existed a filter for the earth for external radiation.

(don't confuse me with facts, here... I('m on a roll)

You get three obvious effects from this:
1. a big change in the amount of damage done to our bodies by solar, and other radiation, and its effect on our rate of aging.

2. You may even get permanent change in just what kind of critter we are.

3. Might it not also throw a big monkey-wrench in things like.. radiocarbon dating?
