I got a pair of slippers for Christmas
Which is nice and I'm not being ungrateful as without them I would have received nothing but I do already have 2 pairs
Anyone want some??

I didn't get one single present. Sure its not the recieving but the giving that matters, but, it still hurts when yuo have nothing at all.

2006, 2007 and 2008? the three darkest years of my life.

However, there are millions living out doors, without food and without a warm bed, so i really should stop my moaning; its just that misery is subjective to the experiencer - and some times we cannot see past our own experience and witness the massive positivity in our lives.

I for one am sure a Brazilian street child would of loved my warm bed and food at the table today. I should in fact be very grateful.

But i'm not. 2006/7/8 sucked.

Yea Egg your right we should be grateful for what we have
It's the thought that counts, but that's what plsses me off, I put time and effort into buying what I thought were meaning full and good gifts for my sister and her kids and all I get in return are a pair of fecking slippers.
Obviously loads of thought went in to that gem of a gift, I shall cherish them forever.

It wouldn't be so bad but even my dad told me not to bother about presents this year, well bollocks to him I got him something

futureyes maybe this year is the year of the slipper

There is a Christmas message from Christopher Story on his website - www.worldreports.org. Not like his usual reports and took me very much by surprise. It was a joy to me to see this "other side" of Christopher Story, though I realise not everyone will see it that way. However, maybe we can all accept that there is a place to find hope in the present world situation (and our personal situations too).

From a very different area - Channel4 in Britain aired an "alternative Christmas message" (the Queen does the formal one) which was given in person by Iran's President -Arminijad (should have checked the spelling of this before I posted!). I found this very inspring as well. Basically he was saying how he felt Jesus Christ would act and be in our present world, for example, for justice and peace and against "occupiers and terrorists, against bullying and expansionists".(I paraphrase).

All this said very quietly and reiterating his good wishes and goodwill. He was coming from the standpoint of a Moslem accepting Jesus Christ as a prophet, and it sounded genuine with his goodwill to all celebrating the birth of Jesus.

The media (and I believe the government as well) have condemned Channel 4 for airing this. As far as what he said is concerned - he would be torn apart whatever he said. I had a strong feeling that most of the folk on this forum would agree with him!

A final word - I do think Steve A's idea of giving a gift to a stranger is a great one. Perhaps we could all take it up next year.

Best wishes to all

I certainly hope he doesn't believe all of that stuff that he wrote, as it is very harsh towards paganism:

Quote:
All pagan gods were and are in fact manifestations of the familiar ancient darkness, facilitating the possession of deluded worshippers by satanic demons. Since and where the light had not shone in the darkness, Satan always had and has a permissive ball: this may offend our manic modern sense of 'fairness', but 'that's the way it was and is
I know my brother would challenge this passage (he is a Wiccan).

Otherwise, interesting message, though I have seen that Mr.Story gets a frosty reception on here.

As much as I'd like to believe him, I'd like to see him clarify his beliefs on the Holocaust as they've either been exaggerated or misquoted by Western media. Perhaps not. Who really knows?

Well Swammy and futureeyes i could really do with some slippers!!! lol!

Whilst you two seem to be getting all the slippers i'm receiving gloves and scarves and like yourself i have many sets now, blue ones, pink ones black ones, and a really nice fur looking one (not real) i wouldn't wear real fur!
But i could of really done with some nice warm slippers Ha Ha!

But getting serious now we are lucky really as was mentioned previously, if we have a warm bed, food and a roof over our heads why should we complain.
Only hope the dior situation coming in 2009 regarding recession, joblessness energy cuts and rising bills and reposession of peoples homes we can all say here on this site next year the same thing, and that is for now i'm okay how about you?
