Comments to the EPA Regarding Regulating Nano Silver as a "Pesticide"
Deadline for Public Comments: Extended to March 20, 2009 (was January 20, 2009)
Extended Comment Period Revised Docket No. EPA-HQ-OPP-2008-0650-0506
The EPA - Environmental Protection Agency - has received a "citizens petition" asking the agency to regulate topical nano silver products as "pesticides." While this would directly apply to topical silver and not to silver as a dietary supplement, Natural Solutions Foundation is very concerned that this is another step toward banning the use of silver in health related areas. The FDA - Food and Drug Administration - has already forbade any health claims for ingested silver, although they have been unable to ban its availability as a dietary supplement without health claims. We are concerned that regulating topical silver would lead to regulating ingested silver as well.
We are also very concerned that a natural material, silver, that has been used for thousands of years to protect people from pathogens is about to be regulated out of availability. Even though silverware and silver plate has been used with food for millennia, with knowledge that the substance helped preserve food from harm, the EPA stands ready to ban or severely restrict more modern applications of silver to countertops and food containers, for example.
The source of this "citizens petition" is suspect as being part of the Big Pharma agenda which seeks to ban or restrict all natural competitors to drugs and toxic industrial products.

Silver products are quite distinct from the GMO or untested nano-particle products to which the Precautionary Principle should apply. Therefore, we urge you to send an appropriate message to the EPA
