In now way am I supporting a republican agenda....

They are two sides of the same coin. Rep. or Dem. can both read. They can both count. They should all be forced to stand down!

Obama hails 60th Senate vote for health care

By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent – Sat Dec 19

WASHINGTON – Jubilant Democrats locked in Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson as the 60th and decisive vote for historic health care legislation Saturday, putting President Barack Obama's signature issue firmly on a path for Christmas Eve passage.

GOP vows fight as White House defends health bill

2 hrs 33 mins ago

WASHINGTON – The White House and its Senate allies defended a final push for historic health care legislation Sunday as outflanked Republicans pledged a fight to the end. A dead-of-night vote neared in a frenzy one GOP lawmaker said lacked "legislative sanity."

Republican Sen. John McCain, President Barack Obama's opponent in last year's election, said there was probably nothing to keep Democrats from passing the bill by Christmas Eve.

Still, he said, the GOP would not relent in the battle for public opinion.

"We'll fight the good fight. We will fight until the last vote," said McCain, R-Ariz. He said the political climate under Obama has become more partisan than ever.

To keep the process moving under Senate rules, Democrats will need to show 60 votes — now secured, with the locked-in support of Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson — in a series of votes.

The next one is set for 1 a.m. Monday.

"I think the American people are entitled to a vote," said David Axelrod, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, as the Senate bill moved toward passage on Christmas Eve.

EXCERPT: Yet major differences between the Senate version and the bill the House already passed, ranging from abortion restrictions to the new taxes that would help pay for the legislation. The White House refused to weigh in on that, focusing on the landmark action in the Senate.

Deal on health bill is reached

By Shailagh Murray and Lori Montgomery
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, December 20, 2009; A01

Senate Democrats said Saturday that they had closed ranks in support of legislation to overhaul the nation's health-care system, ending months of internal division and clearing a path for quick Senate passage of President Obama's top domestic policy priority.

Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) secured the pivotal 60th vote after acceding to the demands of Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) for tighter restrictions on insurance coverage for abortions, along with increased federal aid for his home state and breaks for favored health-care interests.

"Change is never easy, but change is what's necessary in America," Nelson said at a morning news conference, announcing his support as a snowstorm raged outside.

Speaking at the White House, Obama said it appears that a vote is certain on a bill that would provide coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans. "After a nearly century-long struggle, we are on the cusp of making health-care reform a reality," said Obama, who had dispatched senior administration officials to help lock down Nelson's support.

Republicans excoriated the bill as a threat to Medicare -- cuts to the program for the elderly would offset much of the cost -- and to the employer-based insurance system, which provides health coverage to most Americans.

"This bill is a monstrosity," said Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). "This is not renaming the post office. Make no mistake -- this bill will reshape our nation and our lives."

Thank you so much for posting these numbers to call... I do wish more people would do this... having said that...

It is time to take to the streets in protest.... but this has to happen collectively. Im out of ideas to be honest... this is lame..

I'm in the medical field .... if more cuts happen as planned.... we will be in a worse situation than we are now.

We have to keep trying though, laying down and dying is not an option. Vote them out of office.

KILL THE BILL

Minnesotans recorded by Citizens' Council on Health Care tell Senators Klobuchar and Franken to "KILL THE BILL" (ObamaCare) by reciting the rendition of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" written by Crystal Quiring (in gold) who also included the note with a bag of coal she dropped off at the offices of the Senators. The rendition was also published in the Star Tribune.

Health Care Fight Not Over

Posted by Matt Hawes on 12/21/09 9:12 PM

No matter what the media is reporting, the battle to save what little remains of free market health care (and to eventually drive the government entirely out of it) is still not over.

First, a couple of procedural votes remain in the Senate that require 60 votes to pass. The first of these could come as soon as tomorrow morning.

Secondly, even if the Reid bill passes, Senate Republicans can filibuster the selection of conferees to the House/Senate conference to settle bill differences.

Third, there is a very big chance that the committee will have a hard road in front of it trying to come up with a bill that makes moderates happy. Almost all of the huge issues remain on the table, including abortion and the public option.

Nothing is guaranteed, but Congress needs to hear from you, especially Senators Nelson and Sanders, as well as anyone else who cut a deal in order to get privileged treatment from the feds.

The bottom line is: the vast majority of these elected officials want to return to office, and, no matter how often it doesn't seem to be the case, your voice, if raised loud and often enough, can still keep them from doing the wrong thing.

Dedicated activists on the right, the left, and everywhere in between oppose the Reid bill, and, as strange as it may sound, vocal workers who have been on both sides of this debate for the last several months are now in pursuit of the same thing: defeating this legislation. We can fight again over the public option in the future, but let's join together to stop what we can while we still can.

There are also some rumors that Senator McConnell is considering throwing in the towel and heading home. Call the Senate Minority Leader and remind him to do his job.

Call, email, and fax often. The most nefarious legislation can pass while people are distracted by the holidays (Federal Reserve Act anyone?). We have a very real chance to shut this government takeover down and push for true reform.

Health Care Passes Senate. Fight Not Over.

Posted by Matt Hawes on 12/24/09 12:21 PM

Although Harry Reid's health care bill passed early this morning http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1261...mostcommentart on a 60-39 party line vote, the fight to prevent government from taking over even more of our health care decisions is far from finished.

The reconciliation process comes next, which means we need to not only keep the pressure on Congress, but turn it up: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/congress.php If you know of any events where your representatives or senators will be giving speeches during their time in their districts, make sure you show up and directly tell them what you think of their vote. They need to know this vote will follow them, and that people are serious about holding them accountable.

In addition to the fight over the upcoming bill merging, it appears that various states are looking into legal challenges, both on the basis of Ben Nelson's sweetheart deal as well as the unconstitutionality of the insurance mandate: 10 Red States Now Questioning Nelson Deal http://prescriptions.blogs.nytimes.c...g-nelson-deal/

Not content to only stick it to us with the health care vote, the Senate also passed a $290 billion temporary raise of the debt ceiling. The money will last Congress through February.

5 Scary Reasons to Kill the Senate Healthcare Bill

Posted by shelly on 12/23/09 01:40 AM

VIDEO (1:25): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJuo0...layer_embedded

TEXT: Top 5 reasons to kill the senate healthcare bill:

1. Forces you to pay up to 8% of your income for health insurance -- whether you want it or not (source) http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/200...idual-mandate/

2. Many of the taxes that will pay for the bill will start now, but the benefits won't start until 2014. How is that helpful? (source) http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/200...l-mandate-now/

3. Grants monopolies to drug companies to prevent generic versions of high tech drugs from coming to market. Not sure how that's going to lower costs... (source) http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/200...shoos-details/

4. Under this bill, the cost of medical care will continue to RISE an average of 1000 a year for a family of four. (source) http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/200...e-senate-bill/

5. The minor detail that it's not constitutional! Congress does not have the authority to enact this legislation, yet they don't seem to care. The people we have elected in both parties recognize no limitation on their power, and it's up to us - all of us - to stop this. (source) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL6M4uMmkbs

Oops! Turns out Obama's cost-cutting health plan won't save a dime; cheaper to do nothing

December 14, 2009

It's probably just coincidental that bad numbers about President Obama's much-coveted healthcare legislation came out late last week when few people were paying attention.

This is the absolutely crucial healthcare reform plan that simply had to be drafted, discussed, debated, amended and passed before early August. It's supposed to cover millions more Americans and reduce the nation's soaring medical costs.

Turns out, not.

Here's a little chapter review before semester finals:

Analysts in the Obama administration's Health and Human Services Department reported Friday that the nation's $2.5-trillion annual healthcare tab will not shrink at all under the Democrats' legislative blueprint as being pushed by happy Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic leader in the Senate.

Instead, they said, the nation's medical costs will actually grow faster under the new bill than....

The True Intent of Health "Reform"

Friday, December 25. 2009
Posted by Karl Denninger

There are two interesting articles in the WSJ relating to the "Health Reform" bill, one by Karl Rove and the second coming from The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

Let's first talk about Karl Rove: The Real Price of the Senate Health Bill http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...538946528.html
Taxes start going up now, Medicare cuts begin after next fall's election, and spending for subsidies commences in five years. The price tag is not the first decade's announced $871 billion cost: It is $2.4 trillion. That's the cost of the tax credits in insurance exchanges, and the additional Medicaid costs the reform generates, over the first 10 years it's fully up and running, according to Congressional Budget Office numbers compiled by Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee.
Take the partisanship out and what you have is the above, basically. On this Mr. Rove is exactly correct.

The tax increases come now, Medicare cuts come after the next election but in point of fact the spending will come never.

I'll explain after I provide some of the second article: Why the Personal Mandate to Buy Health Insurance Is Unprecedented and Unconstitutional http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...304945580.html
The purpose of this compulsory contract, coupled with the arbitrary price ratios and controls, is to require many people to buy artificially high-priced policies to subsidize coverage for others as well as an industry saddled with other government costs and regulations. Congress lawfully could enact a general tax to pay for these subsidies or it could create a tax credit for those who buy health insurance, but that would require Congress to "pay for" or budget for the subsidies in a conventional manner. The sponsors of the current bills are attempting, through the personal mandate, to keep the transfers entirely off budget or--through the gimmick of unconstitutional taxes or penalties they dub "shared responsibility payments"--make these transfers appear to be revenue-enhancing.

This "personal responsibility" provision of the legislation, more accurately known as the "individual mandate" because it commands all individuals to enter into a contractual relationship with a private insurance company, takes congressional power and control to a striking new level. Its defenders have struggled to justify the mandate by analogizing it to existing federal laws and court decisions, but their efforts do not withstand serious scrutiny. An individual mandate to enter into a contract with or buy a particular product from a private party, with tax penalties to enforce it, is unprecedented-- not just in scope but in kind--and unconstitutional as a matter of first principles and under any reasonable reading of judicial precedents.

Congress has a responsibility, pursuant to the oath of all Senators and Representatives, to determine the constitutionality of its own actions independently of how the Supreme Court has previously ruled or may rule in the future. But it is very unlikely that the Court would extend current constitutional doctrines, or devise new ones, to uphold this new and unprecedented claim of federal power.
Got that second part?

Good, because here's my prediction.

I'm with Howard Dean as in I want this bill to fail.

But, for slightly different reasons. It will not actually bring enough to the table for people.

Otherwise, I have nothing against abortion. If the same folks in here want to complain about overpopulation, then it's only natural that they'd look to abortion as a form of population control. Otherwise, they're blowing smoke out of their asses.

It's not a pretty thing but would you rather have irresponsible parents raising children that don't have a chance? Would you rather have large populations of starving children in Africa so that white, Christian fakes can expose their plight for money?

I think the government should take a trip to Planed Parenthood so that its Mother (The People) can do what needs to be done.

My God! When is this GOOD reality going to kick in?

The Growing Movement to Nullify National Health Care

Posted by Ralph Munyan on 12/25/09 4:17 PM

http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/...l-health-care/

by Michael Boldin

In response to what some opponents see as a Congress that doesn't represent their interests, State Legislators are looking to the nearly forgotten American political tradition of nullification as a way to reject any potential national health care program that may be coming from Washington.

In 2010, residents of Arizona will be voting on a State Constitutional Amendment that would let them effectively opt out of any proposed national health care plan. Legislatures in Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania are also considering similar State Constitutional Amendments.

And now, Missouri is joining them. According to a report in The Missourian, "Rep. Cynthia Davis, R-O'Fallon, pre-filed a bill Dec. 1 that, if approved by voters, would effectively put a halt on any national health care legislation. Davis said her intent was to give voters a way to protect themselves."

FREEDOM TO PARTICIPATE

The bill, HJR48, "Proposes a constitutional amendment which would prohibit compelling a person to participate in any health care system."

It states:

"To preserve the freedom of citizens of this state to provide for their health care, no law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly or through penalties or fines, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system. A person or employer may pay directly for lawful health care services and shall not be required to pay penalties or fines for paying directly for lawful health care services. A health care provider may accept direct payment for lawful health care services and shall not be required to pay penalties or fines for accepting direct payment from a person or employer for lawful health care services. Subject to reasonable and necessary rules that do not substantially limit a person's options, the purchase or sale of health insurance in private health care systems shall not be prohibited by law or rule."

NULLIFICATION: A HISTORY LESSON
