it is not uncommon for boats and ships to catch fire.
you have enclosed engine bays as well as huge fuel storage areas on them. One of the major requirements for getting a skippers liscence is to do a course in shipboard safety, the main component of that is fire fighting on board. Less emphisis on flares and sinking. it was nearly all fire fighting. It really isn't a big story if you know much about ocean going vessels. Even the titanic had a fire in the coal storage area well before it hit the iceberg. |
