Key points from Erdogan’s speech during the massive pro-Palestine rally in Istanbul:
- Israel will be declared a war criminal to the world
- Israel is an occupier
- the Western world mobilized its politicians and media to legitimize the massacre of the innocent people in Gaza
- those shedding crocodile tears for civilians killed in the Ukraine-Russia war are silently watching the deaths of thousands of innocent children in Gaza
- the real owners of the game being played in the region are those who support the Israeli government's whims, because Israel cannot take a step without them. The main culprit behind the massacre unfolding in Gaza is the West

In light of the US veto of a ceasefire resolution in the UN Security Council, and noting that the UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted in favor of an immediate ceasefire that Israel is ignoring, and further noting that the Israeli Defense Force is actively carrying out military operations in Gaza that can only be described as genocidal, and further noting that the Israeli Defense Force is actively preparing to expand the scope and scale of its regional aggression, it is time for Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran, along with any other like-minded nations, to declare that Israeli actions in Gaza and in general represent an imminent risk to the security of all Palestinian people, and the Middle East as a whole and, in light of this threat, that a collective security arrangement is being entered to by Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran which, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, will initiate preemptive self defense operations against Israel with the goal of neutralizing the threat posed by Israel to Gaza, the Palestinian people, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and the Middle Eastern region as a whole.
Hezbollah and Syria should immediately begin military operations designed to relieve the pressure from Gaza and the West Bank by seeking to expel Israel from the Golan Heights and Shebaa Farms, and occupy northern Israel. Hezbollah and Syria should begin a general bombardment of Israeli leadership and military targets, with an emphasis on destroying Israeli airfields and military concentrations. Iran should refrain from attacking unless Israel escalates by bombing civilian targets in Lebanon and/or Syria, or if the United States enters the conflict on the side of Israel. If either or both of the conditions arises, Iran should use the totality of its longe-range strike capabilities to neutralize US military capabilities in the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean Sea, and to eliminate Israeli military capabilities to project power outside the borders of Israel. Pakistan should announce as formal policy that it will retaliate with nuclear weapons against Israel should Israel use a nuclear weapon. All military operations will continue until which time either Israel is defeated or Israel agrees to unconditionally adhere to the will of the United Nations General Assembly regarding the implementation of a ceasefire.
Of course, this will never happen, which is why Israel will probably end up prevailing over the long run.
This is the time for decisive action to eliminate the threat of Israel to the collective security of the Middle East.
Golda Meir forever regretted not launching a preemptive attack against Egypt and Syria in 1973.
Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran will likewise regret not launching a preemptive strike against Israel now.

So whether Palestine "ever was a state" might be seen as a somewhat abstruse historical debating point, and there are some nuances in there which proponents of every position can draw on to make their case — whatever it might be.
Manmade states and laws can be adjusted any time, and probably should be, frequently.
When Netanyahu is on the mission of Isaiah--maybe he cribs the line without even believing it--the whole thing is interpretive. What you can be sure of is that Isaiah never specifically mentions the 2020s like Ezekiel certainly does not name Russia.
After only one person protested in Mumbai, now we see crowds in Kerala. Is there a difference on a human level? Probably. Kerala was trading with Gaza in 3,000 B. C. E. The Keralites are nowhere near the Indus River, speak their own language, and had no Brahmanism until it was sent to them in the eighth century--which was about two thousand years late. Kerala lacks any identifiers that would make it appear to be a good match for the modern state of India. Most Indians are Zionists.
Europe spent most of its known history trying to rid the Pope of any temporal power.
This Kingdom or state of Israel is based on certain interpretations, which, in their turn, effectively act like a Pope.
Its population was driven out, and then they were kicked out of western Europe. Then, when they faced these supposedly unfair problems in eastern Europe, guess who would not take migrants--western Europe. That is why over a million came to the U. S., when only a few thousand went to Palestine.
Europe would not let in displaced Jews in the same way that modern neighbors do not want to let in displaced Palestinians.
This is an amazing example of what you can do with no country:
On October 27, Israeli ground forces attacked the Gaza Strip form the direction of Beit Hanoun and al-Bureij. Palestinian fighters are repelling the attacks.
And so while a two-state solution has been proposed, the other, and more likely proposal, is one state, Palestine.
In a recent turn, Saudi Arabia condemns the ground operation, and yes, that will make a difference because Arabia is much closer than Iran. If it stops kissing western feet, then, Israel will never be secure, or perhaps it will never be.
In the Islamic world, "Israel" is in quotes, because they are quoting someone else rather than saying Zionist entity:
Quote:
Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said that Israeli occupation crimes in Gaza Strip are identical and even surpass those committed by fascism during World War II.
“Those who supported Israeli occupation with Balfour Declaration or voted to recognize this entity will regret soon, and they will realize that they committed a crime against their countries and all of humanity,” Mikdad wrote on X Saturday.
Mikdad noted that instead of protecting the interests of Western colonial countries in the region, “Israel” has become a moral, military, political, financial, economic and humanitarian burden for these countries.
Mikdad noted that the administrative apparatus of the United Nations that has long polished Israel’s image is now required to defend the credibility of the UN Secretary-General in response to the insult directed to him by a Zionist beggar in his capacity as ambassador representing a fascist government.
Moreover, sometimes the Lebanese will refer to the border with Palestine, with no quotes, as if accepting the pre-1947 status quo.
At this point, the two-state idea will have the added difficulty of justifying "Israel" as being one of them.
Ukraine and Israel are both 1900s fabrications which may simply disappear.
I have no idea how you operate an under-tech'd ground force coming from one city which is easily pulverized. Neighboring states have made plenty of rhetoric, which obviously does not work, so they are running out of options other than force.

Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
For the third time, I refer you back to your initial post of 2 back-to-back posts - the video in post # 836 in this thread. That's not an Arab, and he purports to give a history lesson, concluding with the land belongs to Israel and that the Palestinians, or as he might say, "people who call themselves Palestinians, but aren't really because Palestine doesn't exist", are vermin. He's an Israeli spewing Israeli propaganda mixed with the Israeli version of history.
Israel didn't exist before 1947 - Israelis are the interlopers, the occupiers, in the land called Palestine (regardless if the USA refuses to declare Palestine a "state" or not.)
The other video that you keep referring to was your second post in a row, that one from some Saudi Arabian elite guy, probably one of the many princes in the dreadful monarchy. You want to hear an Arab demean other Arabs, just find a Saudi Arabian, or find a Sunni Muslem Arab to badmouth a Shia Muslim Arab, or vice versa. There is nothing unique or special about that second video either. It's an elitist Saudi Arabian guy badmouthing Palestinians.
Telling me that you collect Australian aboriginal art is like me telling you my favorite color. My point was obviously missed.

Arcturian108, I find that Zionist apologist's video to be disgusting, and am deeply saddened to have seen it appear at all on Avalon.
Dennis: Why are you taking this so personally? I am trying to stay somewhat aloof from the maddening rush to accuse, even though I have more of a stake in Israel than hardly anyone else on the Avalon site, besides Israelis of course. You can ask me about this privately some time. I just find all opinions on the subject of the Middle East conflict interesting, and wish to hear more from all sides.
I am curious as to why that particular Arab Muslim has those particular opinions, when he doesn't fit the mold of what we would expect. I guess we will never know, but somehow he feels to me to be elitist in the Arab world, if his pristine outfit indicates to others, as it does to me.
The video in Post #836.
"Taking it personally?", well you posted it in the thread about Trump 'not the answer' where I am involved in a heated debate about Trump's complicity in the Deep State agenda Zionist Israel "situation", and your post had nothing whatsoever to do with the conversation but was rather thread-jacking.
Posting that video is not an "aloof" stance, quite obviously. That video basically accuses Palestinians as being vermin, as well as having no historical rights to the land of their ancestors. Maybe, since you are flying an Aussie flag, if it was a video accusing aboriginal Australians as being vermin and deserving to be killed, expelled, or put in a concentration camp - maybe then you'd see how disgusting it is.
Dennis:
Again, it is rare to see Arab men making any kind of personal statement online like this man did. And I am able to stand back and appreciate whatever I can glean from his statement. Most of what we see of the world protests today tell me nothing about the issues, except watching people waving flags, and screaming.
Regarding my own national status, I happen to be a dual-citizen, U.S.-Australian. Since you mention Australian aboriginals, I have a special fondness for their culture, and collect their art, as I had two past lives as an Australian aboriginal, one as a shaman. All of us have played different parts in our past lives. Many of us have been Jewish. Many of us have been Muslim. Even you, Dennis, have had six past lives as a Jew, and eight past lives as a Muslim. So the intense energy surfacing right now around Israel and Gaza reflects the intensity coming through from having had past lives in these cultures.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi would often say that the reason we meditate is to prevent the birth of an enemy. It is not good to give our energy and attention to these extremely negative events, as our attention helps fuel the holocaust.

Netanyahu declaring invasion: "You must remember what Amalek has done to you, says our Holy Bible"
Let me help that foot a little farther into the mouth.
Amalek is a bit like the Jewish expression for anti-Christ. Note the traditional origin:
According to the Bible, Amalek was the son of Eliphaz (himself the son of Esau, ancestor of the Edomites) and Eliphaz's concubine Timna.
It was supposed to be the first and recurring enemy of the Israelites, which lacks any evidence:
Although Egyptian and Assyrian monumental inscriptions and records of the period survive which list various tribes and peoples of the area, no reference has ever been found to Amalek or the Amalekites. Therefore, the archaeologist and historian Hugo Winckler suggested in 1895 that there were never any such people and the Biblical stories concerning them are entirely mythological and ahistorical.
If it is a cover for the lineage of Esau, would that be meaningful, yes:
Quote:
HEROD
The name of a family of political rulers over the Jews. They were Idumeans, Edomites. They were nominally Jews, for the Idumeans had had circumcision forced upon them by the Maccabean ruler John Hyrcanus I in about 125 B.C.E., according to Josephus.
The Hebrew word translated as leader of a clan is aluf, used solely to describe the Dukes of Edom and Moab, in the first five books of Moses. However beginning in the books of the later prophets the word is used to describe Judean generals, for example, in the prophecies of Zachariah twice (9:7, 12:5–6) it had evolved to describe Jewish captains, the word also is used multiple times as a general term for teacher or guide for example in Psalm 55:13. Aluph as it is used to denote teach or guide from the Edomite word for Duke is used 69 times in the Tanakh.
Edom (Idumaea) is ancient and historical, and was defeated several times until:
Quote:
Around 110 BCE, Hasmonean leader John Hyrcanus I conquered Idumaea. According to several ancient sources, including Josephus and Ptolemy, he forcibly converted them to Judaism
According to the Torah, the congregation could not receive descendants of a marriage between an Israelite and an Edomite until the fourth generation.
John Hyrcanus's driving out the non-military population of Jerusalem during the siege also probably caused resentment against him. The action of looting the Tomb of David violated his obligations as High Priest, which would have offended the religious leadership.
Hyrcanus sought for good relations with the surrounding Gentile powers, especially the growing Roman Republic.
John Hyrcanus in the later years of his life, abandoned the sect of the Pharisees, and joined himself to the Sadducees.
Next:
Herod's despotic rule has been demonstrated by many of his security measures aimed at suppressing the contempt his people, especially Jews, had towards him. For instance, it has been suggested that Herod used secret police to monitor and report the feelings of the general populace toward him. He sought to prohibit protests, and had opponents removed by force.
In Jerusalem, Herod introduced foreign forms of entertainment, and erected a golden eagle at the entrance of the Temple, which suggested a greater interest in the welfare of Rome than of Jews.
The Sadducees, who were closely associated with priestly responsibilities in the Temple, opposed Herod because he replaced their high priests with outsiders from Babylonia and Alexandria, in an effort to gain support from the Jewish Diaspora.
The scope of the disturbances sparked hopes that the Jews of Judea might some day overthrow the Roman overlords, hopes reawakened decades later in the outbreak of the First Jewish-Roman War in 66 CE.
While it has been proven that Herod showed a great amount of disrespect toward the Jewish religion...Many Jews questioned the authenticity of Herod's Judaism on account of his Idumean background and his infamous murders of members of his family.
...this influential family came to be resented by many Jews for their Edomite ancestry, a fact used by the Hasmoneans and their supporters against them. As such, in a polemic against Herod to discredit him in the eyes of the Romans as unfit to become king of the Jews, Antigonus the Hasmonean is quoted by Josephus as referring to Herod as "no more than a private man, and an Idumean, i.e. a half Jew".
Considering the time period, "that" is Judea shortly before the time of Jesus. Rather obviously, there would have been a desire for a Messiah in the near future, not thousands of years away. Another likely spurious massacre is attributed to him by Matthew, to rally support for Christianity.
Herod was an Edomite Jewish convert whose dynasty ruled Judea for centuries.
But this line of Esau has been a Judaic enemy for ages.
This is why Judean lineages are said to be ritually unclean, if not unreal, due to the resurgence of Edom over half of their territory, and ruling it as a type of falsified High Priest with a few other issues.
Amalek who? Not sure. Remember Esau.
None of that, to me, is a sufficient reason to use an air force to demolish a civilian city.

- Britain in Palestine 1917-1948:
Britain in Palestine 1917-1948 investigates the contradictory promises and actions which defined British Mandatory rule in Palestine and laid the groundwork for the Nakba (the catastrophe) and the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. The roots of the contemporary social, political, economic, and environmental landscape of Palestine and Israel can be traced back to this period, making it essential viewing for understanding Britain’s legacy in the region and the situation on the ground today.

"There is no fear of the consequences, as a result I'm not optimistic [for a solution to Israel-Hamas], I think we will march down a path into hell.'
This interview follows on from Neil Oliver's stirling monologue posted above, and is a first-class discussion on the situation in Gaza. However, when all is said and done, tongues don't get things done.
It seems that the world is dependent upon a divided (and therefore weak) United Nations, who is powerless to stop the senseless murder of innocent people by the zionists. Expecting the military to down arms in solidarity is totally unrealistic, so escalation seems inevitable.
Colonel McGregor is right: We have (collectively) been watching TV instead of seeing the systematic downgrade of our values, but we're quickly becoming aware now. One major problem in the UK is the lack of a major political party which hasn't been infiltrated by zionists.

Israels War on Gaza. Gaza has no military, no artillery, no tanks, no RV's, no air force, no navy, no body armor, no helmets, no heavy weapons, no fuel, no electricity, no coms, no help. 2.3 million walled in and besieged civilians. 50% of population 14 years old or younger. Over 7,800 now dead over 3500 children now dead. The greatest act of genocide and cowardice in all of modern history... Israels "War" on children... Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Fortunately, resolutions are non-binding statements of opinion.
SR 418 contains no language such as "Palestine has the right to defend itself", but, it does hate free speech:
Sponsor: Sen. Hawley, Josh [R-MO]
Cosponsor Date Cosponsored
Sen. Scott, Rick [R-FL]* 10/19/2023
Sen. Blackburn, Marsha [R-TN]* 10/19/2023
Sen. Budd, Ted [R-NC]* 10/19/2023
Whereas students at Harvard University wrote that they “hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence”;
Whereas the President of the Student Bar Association of New York University School of Law wrote “to express, first and foremost, my unwavering and absolute solidarity with Palestinians in their resistance against oppression toward liberation and self-determination. Israel bears full responsibility for this tremendous loss of life”;
Whereas students at the Ohio State University praised “our heroic resistance in Gaza who have shown the world yet again that the spirit of the Palestinian people cannot and will not be trampled, and that our resistance to Zionism and Western imperialism remains strong”;
Whereas the University of North Carolina chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine claimed “it is our moral obligation to be in solidarity with the dispossessed, no matter the pathway to liberation they choose to take. This includes violence”;
Whereas the New York University chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine rejected “peaceful discourse” and instead claimed “there is no peace in a colonized people living under occupation, subjugation, and apartheid”;
Whereas the University of Virginia chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine declared that the mass murder of civilians was “an unprecedented feat for the 21st century” and “a step towards a free Palestine”;
SR 437 is about "antisemitism", a chimera that would mean someone opposes a language:
Sponsor: Sen. Blackburn, Marsha [R-TN]
Cosponsor Date Cosponsored
Sen. Rosen, Jacky [D-NV]* 10/26/2023
Sen. Lankford, James [R-OK]* 10/26/2023
Sen. Van Hollen, Chris [D-MD]* 10/26/2023
Whereas freedom of speech and expression are foundational principles of institutions of higher education in the United States, but when these principles are used to promote violence, hatred, or discrimination on the basis of religious beliefs, national origin, or ancestry, higher education leaders have the right and an obligation to respond
"Antisemitism" and most of the other political jargon accomplishes those purposes doesn't it?
Also a long complaint about removing 1,100 troops in Niger. Nay 86 -- 11.
Just a reminder they are warmongering Zionists.
I'd like to see them, say, try to compel the governor of NY to enforce some Federal "you cannot protest" law. The governor can do that on his own. That would be worse if individual states pass legislation on it.

Not sure they have that kind of patience:
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that Israel had crossed ‘red lines’ that could force everyone to take action.
"Zionist regime’s crimes have crossed the red lines, which may force everyone to take action."
Not sure what it means, other than he warned them about invading. The strategy and the things to be done are already agreed by the regional leaders, and we just don't know how it works. I am wondering if he can legally shoot Israelis in Gaza in the sense of it not being an act of war.

One more thing. Quick refresher about the Senator sponsoring both of those Zionist resolutions. This is the John Birch clone in high school:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...rth_-_1969.jpg
In the recent election, Blackburn lost only three counties in Tennessee:
Quote:
In December 2020, Blackburn posted, "China has a 5,000-year history of cheating and stealing. Some things will never change..." on her Twitter account. The European Union bureau chief for China's state-owned China Daily, Chen Weihua, responded by tweeting, "This is the most racist and ignorant US Senator I have seen. A lifetime bitch".
The Chinese American rights group Tennessee Chinese American Alliance protested Blackburn's comments as insulting to people of Chinese descent.
In August 2022, Blackburn led a congressional delegation to Taiwan, where she met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.
During her visit, Blackburn voiced support for Taiwan, calling it an "independent nation" and a "country", and also supported further U.S.-Taiwan relations and combating the "New Axis of Evil", which she defines as Iran, Russia, and North Korea, led by China.
Blackburn is a Tea Party Republican. She has been called staunchly conservative, and has sometimes attended functions of, and met with leaders of, far-right groups. She has called herself "a hard-core, card-carrying Tennessee conservative."
GovTrack estimated Blackburn to be the most ideologically conservative member of the Senate in the 2019 legislative year.
In 2021, when President Biden proposed universal pre-K for 3- and 4-year-olds and subsidized child care for low- and middle-income families, Blackburn likened the proposal to the communist policies of the Soviet Union. She also falsely claimed that the Biden administration proposed to put children in pre-K even if their parents did not want to send them there.
She is a Presbyterian and a member of Christ Presbyterian Church.
That definitely summarizes one flavor of the carbon copied human forms around me.
Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
As we all do know - or certainly should by now - the "brotherhood" reach (be it the Zionist/Israel Lobby or others) plays on people's venality, BUT some are deficient in that, have some backbone, and are able to say, 'NO!':
Ramsha Afridi @ramshaofficial
I've never shared this publicly before, but I believe the time has come. At the age of 24, when I initially entered the realm of politics, an individual from a specific interest group approached me.
They offered a "significant role" in the media if I embraced a pro-Israel, Muslim perspective. They promised me influence and a large platform.
When I declined, their approach turned aggressive, and they even resorted to making threats.
I can't help but wonder how many others are currently experiencing similar pressures.

- Israeli Journalist: ‘It’s strange and it stinks ...’:
Journalist Efrat Fenigson served in the Israeli army herself and has some inconvenient questions. How could Hamas breach the Israeli border so easily? And why were they left unimpeded for hours? "A cat walking along the fence activates all the troops. So this?"
Although Fenigson is not a security expert, she has common sense as well as practical experience. She served in the Israeli army in intelligence and was stationed at a border crossing with the Gaza Strip. Like the rest of the world, she was shocked by the atrocities Hamas committed last October 7, 2023 but she was also critical.
For how could it be that one of the most advanced armies in the world did not see this large-scale attack coming? And why did it react so late? “It's strange and it stinks,” she says. “I don't have any answers, but I can point out the obvious questions.”
These are daring questions on this highly sensitive topic. “But it takes people speaking out, asking these questions on behalf of those who are now suffering the loss of loved ones,” Fenigson stressed to reporter Roy Bernabela, who as an Arabist has a thorough knowledge of the Middle East.

The Committee reported in Lausanne, Switzerland on 20 April 1946: Report of the Anglo-American Committee of Enquiry Regarding the Problems of European Jewry and Palestine (Miscellaneous No. 8 (1946) Cmd. 6808). The following year its long term recommendations were published Proposals for the Future of Palestine July, 1946-February, 1947 (Palestine No. 1 (1947) Cmd. 7044).
Administrative / biographical background:
The Anglo-American Committee of Enquiry on Palestine was appointed by the government of the United States and United Kingdom as a joint body with two chairmen, Joseph C. Hutcheson (USA) and John E. Singleton (UK). The Committee was set up in January 1946 to report within 120 days on the political, economic and social conditions in Palestine relevant to the problem of Jewish immigration and settlement therein and the well being of the present population.
It was also to examine the position of Jews in Europe and the practical measures necessary to enable them to live free from discrimination and to estimate those who may wish or be impelled to migrate. The enquiry took the form of public hearings of evidence in Washington DC, London, Cairo and Jerusalem and visits by members to the various countries concerned.

Press Release Announcing U.S. Recognition of Israel (1948)
At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel. On that same date, the United States recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the Jewish state (de jure recognition was extended on January 31, 1949).
In 1917, Chaim Weizmann – scientist, statesperson, and supporter of the effort to establish a state of Israel – persuaded the British government to issue a statement favoring the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. The statement, which became known as the Balfour Declaration, was, in part, payment to the Jewish people for their support of the British against the Turks during World War I. After the war, the League of Nations ratified the declaration and in 1922 appointed Britain to rule Palestine.
This course of events caused Jewish people to be optimistic about the eventual establishment of a homeland. Their optimism inspired immigration to Palestine from many countries, particularly from Germany when Nazi persecution began. The arrival of many Jewish immigrants in the 1930s awakened Arab fears that Palestine would become a national Jewish homeland. By 1936, guerrilla fighting had broken out between Jews and Arabs. Unable to maintain peace, Britain issued a white paper in 1939 that restricted Jewish immigration into Palestine. Jewish people, feeling betrayed, bitterly opposed the policy and looked to the United States for support.
While President Franklin D. Roosevelt appeared to be sympathetic to the Jewish cause, his assurances to the Arabs that the United States would not intervene without consulting both parties caused public uncertainty about his position. When Harry S. Truman took office, he made clear that his sympathies were with the Jewish people and accepted the Balfour Declaration, explaining that it was in keeping with former President Woodrow Wilson's principle of "self-determination." Truman initiated several studies of the Palestine situation that supported his belief that, as a result of the Holocaust, Jewish people were oppressed and also in need of a homeland. Throughout the Roosevelt and Truman administrations, the Departments of War and State, recognizing the possibility of a Soviet-Arab connection and the potential restriction on oil supplies from Arab nations to the United States, advised against U.S. intervention.
Britain and the United States, in a joint effort to examine the dilemma, established the "Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry." In April 1946, the committee submitted recommendations that Palestine not be dominated by either Arabs or Jews. It concluded that attempts to establish nationhood or independence would result in civil strife; that a trusteeship agreement aimed at bringing the two peoples together should be established by the United Nations; that full Jewish immigration be allowed into Palestine; and that two autonomous states be established with a strong central government to control Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and the Negev, the southernmost section of Palestine.
British, Arab, and Jewish reactions to the recommendations were not favorable. Britain, anxious to rid itself of the problem, set the United Nations in motion, formally requesting on April 2, 1947, that the UN General Assembly set up the Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP). This committee recommended that the British mandate over Palestine be ended and that the territory be partitioned into two states.
Jewish reaction was mixed—some wanted control of all of Palestine; others realized that partition spelled hope for their dream of a homeland. Palestinian Arab leaders and other Arab nations were not at all agreeable to the UNSCOP plan. In October, the League of Arab States directed the governments of its member states to move troops to the Palestine border. Meanwhile, President Truman instructed the State Department to support the UN plan, and it reluctantly did so. On November 29, 1947, the partition plan was passed by the UN General Assembly.
At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel. On that same date, the United States, in the person of President Truman, recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the Jewish state (de jure recognition was extended on January 31, 1949). The U.S. delegates to the UN and top-ranking State Department officials were angered that Truman released his recognition statement to the press without notifying them first.
On May 15, 1948, the first day of Israeli Independence and exactly one year after UNSCOP was established, Arab armies invaded Israel and the Arab-Israeli War of 1948 began.
