Thank you for your interest in joining the Project Avalon Forum. Please read the following carefully.

As you may already be aware, the Project Avalon Forum has a reputation among many for being one of the highest quality forums on the internet. It's more than a virtual community of friends; it's also a kind of open-source, online university containing over a thousand active members, many of whom are remarkable people.

We have scientists, authors, ex-military officers, teachers, lecturers, researchers, therapists, abductees, engineers, experiencers, psychics, visionaries, artists, musicians, and many plain and simple lovely, spiritual people — from all walks of life and from all over the world. Their ages range from 15 to 85, and their life experiences are similarly varied. They are united in their commitment (a) to personal learning and growth, and (b) to helping make the world a better place.

The members make the forum, and the detailed membership application process below is one of the ways in which the high quality of the membership is maintained. The reason we ask for so much personal information is simply to get an idea of who you are, what your values and interests are, and what you stand for. The information is never shared publicly, and is only used by the moderators of the forum to make a decision about whether to invite you to join.

As a result of your application (which may have several days to process, as the moderators will all read what you've written and discuss it with one other), we'll write back to you with one of three responses:

— We may invite you to the forum.
— We may let you know that you've not give us enough information to enable us to make a decision, in which case we'll invite you to say more.
— We may let you know that on the basis of what you have shared with us, we don't feel that we can invite you to be a member at this time.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We will definitely get back to you, usually within 1-4 days (but very occasionally, this may take longer). If our reply isn't in your inbox, PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER. We never decline an application by not replying. If you can't find our response, you're always welcome to write to staff@projectavalon.net, or use the forum contact form, to ask us what's happened.

So: please see this from our point of view. We welcome your interest, but we know nothing about you. Therefore the only way we can get to know you at this early stage is by what you write below. We thank you for this, and we look forward to reading your application.

The most important thing we can say is that we fully understand concerns about privacy, especially in these times.

We never EVER sell mailing lists, and everything you share with us is totally 100% private. The only reason we have an application form at all is to ensure that the quality of the forum’s community is maintained — no-one can ‘buy’ their way in, as with paywall-protected sites — and we've found over the years that this process really does a good job in keeping out the trolls, agents, bots, and others who may be hostile to our values.

In order to proceed, we ask you to agree with the following rules:

  • You must be accepted as a member of the forum to post here.
  • You retain ownership of content you post. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive right to copy, display, store, distribute, and otherwise use that content in connection with operating this forum. We may edit, move from public view, or remove content when we consider it necessary.
  • We track Internet IP addresses of forum traffic to help protect the forum from malicious traffic.
  • Membership is a privilege not a right and the administration reserves the right to deny or remove access to whom it sees fit in order to preserve the security and integrity of the community.
  • Members should treat each other with respect.
  • Members who are disrespectful of other members, or who otherwise harm or abuse the forum may be warned or unsubscribed.
  • Members who insist on promoting / showcasing themselves, their own websites, products, or services may be warned or unsubscribed.
  • Members are welcome to contact the forum moderators and administrators with questions and concerns.
  • Posts, personal avatars or private messages that promote or showcase illegal drugs and other substances, pornography including nude art, foul language, racial / sexual / national intolerance, hate speech, politically subversive acts or planning, are prohibited.
  • Threads relating to suicide are prohibited due to legal liability. If you are feeling suicidal - please immediately call your local suicide hot-line or some TRAINED PROFESSIONAL for help.
  • Personal attacks and threats, whether in posts or private messages, are prohibited.
  • Private messages between members are not be posted in public without the sender's permission.
  • You may report forum posts or private messages you receive, using the link at the bottom of the post or message. A link to the post or a copy of the message will then sent to the moderators for their consideration.
  • Please trim quoted text when replying to another post. Quote only the previous text neded to provide context for the reply. This takes a little exra work when posting, but is in consideration of the other members.
  • The forum uses a simple word censor, that replaces a few well known cuss words with asterisks. Please do not subvert the word censor.
  • When sharing outside material with the forum, please do it in the form of links with summary paragraphs. The summary should be a paragraph of your own words or with a short excerpt from the text itself.
  • Please do not post long passages (i.e. more than a few short paragraphs) of outside text.
  • Please do not post “Naked” links, i.e. links without summary text. Tell the reader what the link goes to.
  • Do not post links to downloadable copyright material.
  • Do not remove or obfuscate lots of your old posts, outside of personal safety reasons or similar. The forum staff may choose to resore such removed posts.
  • Do not excessively use bold, large text, or other overly dramatic formatting or phrasing.
  • One account, one person: Each active account should have only one person behind it, and each active member should have only one active account.
  • Using email addresses acquired on the forum to spam members with unwanted email privately is prohibited.
  • Links in your signature should not point to any website which offers products or services for purchasing.

Although the administrators and moderators of The Project Avalon Community Forum will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this site, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of The Project Avalon Community Forum, nor vBulletin Solutions, Inc. (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message.
