    Default Another Well Explosion

I have no links, no nuttin, as of now but. no this is not an old thread. This is today, Sep 2, 2010 and....

In the last hour a well off the coast of Louisiana has exploded.

So far, the 13 workers have abandoned the rig in "enviroment suits". 1 is injured.

Coast Guard helos are still on the way to the scene.

No word yet on oil leakage.

I am headed to the idiot box in the den, will post more when I know.

    Fred

    Hey Dan!

Ok the oil rig is Vermillion #380

It is located 80-90 miles due south of Vermillion Bay Louisiana.
    And owned by Mariner Energy.

    More when I get smarter

    Morgs;
Like I said elsewhere... we need to take the fox outa the hen house.
These people either do this straight, or they go to jail, and someone else does it.

And no I have no clue over cause, here. But the fact that they are regulated, and supervised in name only is apparent.

    From Dan's link:
Quote The platform owned by Mariner Energy is in about 2,500 feet of water, the Coast Guard said, and was not currently producing.
So... deep water once again. Means bullsh*t safety and zero plan for safe operation, in effect.

But hey, at least they have a plan for all the Walrus' right?

Thanks Fred for the thread. It does not surprise me. There are thousands around the world with the same age, same lack of maintenance for profit. Wake up humanity!

Looks like it was or is leaking

Investigators are trying to determine what caused an explosion Thursday morning on an offshore oil production platform in the Gulf of Mexico that injured one person.
The explosion happened at approximately 10:15 a.m. ET on the Vermilion Bloc 380 platform, Patrick Cassidy, a spokesman for Mariner Energy, told CNN.
Mariner Energy owns the platform, which is about 170 kilometres south of Vermilion Bay, La.
There were no drilling operations underway at the time of the explosion, and the nearly 223,000 litres of oil drawn from seven underwater wells appeared to be contained, Cassidy said.
Speaking from the state capital of Baton Rouge, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said a sheen measuring 1.8 kilometres by 30 metres has been reported on the water surface near the burning rig, but it's too soon to know the extent of any pollution.
"The company has told us that it's 'contained and nearly burned out,' " Jindal told reporters.
He added that the company says current production at the shallow-water well platform "has been averaging 1,400 barrels a day, and in addition to that, 9.2 million cubic feet of natural gas a day."

I would personally like to see an inspector from an INDEPENDENT AGENCY up each one of these Gulf Oil Rig management operator's anal opening - so far up (in fact) they would be checking on the condition of the oil operator's eye teeth !!!

It should also be demanded that the cost of these inspection teams shall come out of the profits of the global elite owners pockets, and not be added to the cost of doing business. Why should a few be allowed to profit from this obscene rape ?

    by the way...
This well is only in 300 ft. of water now. not the 2,500 in the Yahoo story.

Also heard the comment made that this kind of platform is normally not manned at all, except during times of maintenance.

CNN has gone from talking about this every 5 minutes, to barely mentioning it.

    anyway...

The good news is not only is it a shallow well,
Quote Jindal said that Mariner has told him that all seven wells have been closed off and that what is burning now is from fuel in storage, and not from an active leak.
We don't have another volcano of oil erupting into the gulf
