Saudi fighter jets target Yemen’s Sa’ada with cluster bombs

‘Saudi warplanes have bombarded several areas across Yemen’s Sa’ada province with
banned cluster bombs.Yemen’s al-Massira television channel reported on Wednesday
that the Saudi airborne assaults claimed the lives an unspecified number of Yemeni civilians.

Riyadh has used cluster bombs on Yemenis multiple times during the past months. Back on
Monday, Saudi warplanes dropped at least 10 cluster bombs on the Haydan district of the
northwestern province a day after Yemeni media released a video showing the residential
area of Maran village in the same province being targeted with the banned bombs by Saudi
warplanes.Meanwhile, Saudi fighter jets conducted a series of airstrikes, targeting an air
defense camp in the western province of Hudaydah, as well as two islands in the north
western province of Hajjah.’

‘The United Nations (UN) has condemned Saudi Arabia’s recent airstrike on
a hospital run by the medical aid group, Doctors Without Borders, also known
as MSF, in Yemen, calling for an immediate probe into the incident.

In a statement released on Tuesday, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said,
“The Secretary-General [Ban Ki-moon] calls for a prompt, effective and
impartial investigation in order to ensure accountability.”

The UN chief also urges “all parties to the conflict in Yemen to immediately
cease all operations, including airstrikes,” Dujarric added.’

‘At least 800 Colombian nationals could soon be fighting alongside the Saudi-led
coalition against Yemenis, with dozens likely already in the war-torn Middle Eastern
country, a Latin American paper disclosed.

Over 800 Colombian mercenaries could take up front-line positions in Yemen under
the Saudi command, the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo said in a report.

​The troops are expected to be involved in an ongoing offensive against the revolutionary
forces, which currently hold Yemen’s capital, Sana’a.

Hundreds of Colombian nationals are fighting alongside the Saudi-led forces in Yemen,
the report further added.’

‘An unknown number of militants loyal to fugitive former Yemeni President
Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi have been killed in an incident in which Saudi
military aircraft mistakenly bombed their positions in Yemen’s central
province of Ma’rib.

Yemeni military sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Saudi
warplanes carried out airstrikes on Ma’rib’s provincial capital city of the same
name, 250 kilometers (150 miles) east of the capital, Sana’a, on Thursday.

The attacks left scores of gunmen allied to Saudi Arabia killed or injured,
Yemen’s official Saba news agency reported.’

Saudi Arabia presses ahead with its military campaign against Yemen
inflicting further casualties and destruction across the impoverished nation.
Yemeni media say Saudi warplanes destroyed a number of mosques and
houses using internationally-banned cluster bombs in Hidan district of
Sa'ada province. Fighter jets have targeted the provinces of Ibb, Sa’ada
and Hajjah, killing at least one person in Ibb. Meanwhile, Yemen’s
Ansarullah fighters and their allied army units have pounded targets
inside the kingdom. In the latest retaliatory attacks, the Yemeni side
fired missiles at Saudi forces in Najran region. Over 71-hundred
Yemenis have been killed since Riyadh launched its offensive in late March.

Saudi Arabia breaks 20-year execution record: Amnesty International

‘At least 151 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia so far this year,
the highest figure in the last 20 years, Amnesty International says.

In a Monday statement, the rights group said Saudi authorities, on average,
have put to death one person every other day in 2015.

The number shows a dramatic 68-percent rise in comparison with 90 executions
carried out over the whole of the last year.

The last time Riyadh executed over 150 people in a single year was in 1995,
when 192 executions were recorded, according to the statement.’

‘The United States will sell smart bombs worth of $1.29 billion to Saudi Arbia as
the monarchy continues relentless raids against its impoverished neighbor.

The Pentagon said on Monday that the US State Department has approved the
sale to supply Riyadh for war on Yemen, which has taken the lives of thousands
in the Arab world’s poorest country.

The Saudi aggression has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 7,100 people
and injured nearly 14,000 others. The strikes have also taken a heavy toll on the
country’s facilities and infrastructure, destroying many hospitals, schools, and factories.’

‘The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has called for the end of bombing hospitals
in war-torn Yemen, accusing U.S.-backed Saudi forces of carrying out the attacks.

The ICRC says “close to a hundred” hospital attacks have occurred since March, with the latest in
the city of Taiz. Al-Thawra hospital, which has cared for about 50 injured people every day, was
shelled several times on November 8. Before that, a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Haydan
district of Saada was attacked on October 26.

“The neutrality of health care facilities and staff is not being respected. Health facilities are deliberately
attacked and surgical and medical supplies are also being blocked from reaching hospitals in areas
under siege,” Kedir Awol Omar, deputy head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen, said.’

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange told Rossiya-1 (Russia 1) TV channel on Sunday that
the United States, France, and Britain had also been involved in the secret deal in 2012.

He added that Washington’s allies in the Middle East such as Riyadh acted in a more

The United Nations children’s agency, UNICEF, warns that over 500,000
children in Yemen are facing severe life-threatening malnutrition.

“The stunting rates in Yemen are likely to go up. It means children do not
reach their full height, but also that their cognitive capacities are affected,
which becomes a permanent burden on the whole society,” the head of
UNICEF, Anthony Lake, said on Tuesday.

The UN World Food Program (WFP) said in August that Yemen’s humanitarian
crisis has pushed the country to the verge of famine, adding that some 13
million people are food insecure and six million of them are in severe condition.’

Palestinian poet gets death sentence for ‘abandoning Islam’
in Saudi Arabia – Human Rights Watch

‘A Palestinian poet has been sentenced to death by a Saudi Arabian court
for allegedly abandoning his Muslim faith, Human Rights Watch reports.
The death sentence comes after an initial 2014 verdict that sentenced the
poet to four years in prison and 800 lashes.

Poet Ashraf Fayadh was detained in Abha, southwest Saudi Arabia, in 2013
due to allegations by a prosecution witness, who claimed he heard Fayadh
cursing God, the Prophet Mohammed and Saudi Arabia. Also, the prosecution
alleged offenses based on a book of poems Fayadh had written several years
prior to that.

The poet’s friends, however, believe he was being punished for posting a video
showing Saudi Arabia’s religious police (mutaween) lashing a man in public.’

Unreported Crimes against Humanity: More Than 800 Women and Children Have
Died in Yemen, and No One Has Food

Yemen’s humanitarian and human rights catastrophe continues to worsen,
according to new UN figures which put the number of killed since late March at
more than 5,700.

Speaking to reporters in Cairo by videoconference, the UN’s humanitarian
coordinator for Yemen Johannes Van Der Klauww said that 830 of the dead were
women and children. UN officials had earlier put the total number of civilians killed
at more than 2,600.

As the death toll in the conflict pitting Saudi-led coalition forces against Shia Houthi
rebels and their allies continues to rise, humanitarian conditions have only grown
more dire, said the coordinator. 21.2 million people in the country – 82 percent of
its entire population – are in need of some sort of humanitarian assistance.’

Amnesty International has expressed alarm at reports that the authorities
in Saudi Arabia are planning to execute dozens of people in a single day.

The newspaper Okaz said 55 people were awaiting execution for "terrorist
crimes", while a now-deleted report by al-Riyadh said 52 would die soon.
They are thought to include Shia who took part in anti-government protests.
Amnesty said that given the spike in executions this year, it had no option
but to take the reports very seriously.The group believes at least 151 people
have been put to death in Saudi Arabia so far this year - the highest recorded
figure since 1995.

In 2014, the total number of executions carried out was reported to be 90.

'Unfair trials'

The Saudi newspaper reports said those facing execution in the coming days
included "al-Qaeda terrorists" and people from the Awamiya area.
The alleged al-Qaeda militants were accused of attempting to overthrow the
government and carry out attacks using small arms, explosives and surface-to-air missiles, Okaz reported.

‘Saudi Arabia used British-made cruise missiles during an attack on a civilian
Yemeni factory, say Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

According to a report published by the human rights groups on Wednesday,
remains of PGM-500 missiles, manufactured by the UK firm Marconi Dynamics,
were found in the rubble of a factory that was targeted near the capital Sana’a in
September.

“The attack on the factory in the Sana’a governorate, which appeared to be
producing only civilian goods, killed one person, and was in apparent violation of
international humanitarian law,” read a Human Rights Watch statement.’

from a Saudi Arabian sheikh despite their being a ban on ministers accepting any gifts with
a value of over £140.

Hammond tried to claim that he accepted the gift in his capacity as a constituency MP and

‘The former Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and other top officials
showered the Obama family with more than $1.3 million in gifts throughout 2014,
according to the US State Department.

In its annual accounting report released this week, the State Department revealed that
on January 14, 2014, the American president received a “gold and silver men’s wristwatch
with leather band,” valued at $18,400.

The monarch gave Obama another “white gold men’s wristwatch with leather band,”
in April with a price tag of $67,000.’

More Civilians Killed by Saudi Airstrikes in Yemen’s Sa’ada

‘Saudi Arabia conducted fresh air raids on the Yemeni
province of Sa’ada, claiming the lives of tens of civilians.

The Saudi fighter jets bombarded the residential areas in
Bani Moin region of Sa’ada, and took more civilian lives.

Many people’s houses were also destroyed in the Saudi airstrikes.

The Saudi fighter jets continued their air raids on the Yemeni
provinces on Sunday, killing at least 12 civilians, most of them
women and children.’
