critical of the US? Tinseltown does it all the time. The idea is to make people
(and teenagers in this case) familiar with this sort of future. Robocop, many of
the Schwarzenegger and Stallone movies and many other movies as well, foretell
various kinds of dystopian futures. When parts of these futures arrive, the shock
of their implementation is not so severe because people have seen it already.

It is a very cynical ploy, but it surely works. These movies also add to the
psychological burden that most of us carry in these waning days of freedom. Such
movies in foretelling the future are intended to give us a sense of hopelessness,
that a dystopian future is preordained.

In fact, it is not. Those who are interested in imposing this sort of future on us have
made plenty of mistakes in the past century and even more in the 21st century.

Cameron admits renewing Trident nuclear weapons will cost extra £6 billion

‘The cost of renewing Britain’s Trident nuclear weapons program has jumped by 20 percent,
according to the government’s Strategic Defense and Security Review (SDSR) unveiled in
parliament on Monday afternoon.

Replacing Britain’s nuclear missiles system was estimated to cost £25 billion nine years ago,
but that figure has been revised up to £31 billion, plus a £10 billion contingency.

The new figure is likely to add fuel to arguments against replacing the nuclear missiles, with
critics arguing it was too expensive even before the price hike.

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) general secretary Kate Hudson said the total cost
of maintaining Britain’s nuclear weapons system could now rise to a total £183 billion.’

American public deeply cynical about US government: Poll

their trust in the country’s political leaders continues to be at historically low
levels, according to a new national survey.

Only 19 percent the US public say they can trust the government always or
most of the time, among the lowest levels in the past 50 years, a poll by the
Pew Research Center has found.

Just 20 percent of Americans would describe government programs as being
well-run and 59 percent say it is in need of “very major reform,” according to
the Pew survey, which was conducted between August 27 and October 4, 2015
and published on Monday.’

‘A Leeds prostate cancer patient claims that after being misdiagnosed for five vital
months he has been asked to pay £1,400 for life-extending chemotherapy.

Dominic Horsley, from Woodlesford, was referred to specialists at Leeds St James’s
Hospital in May after suffering from aches in his lower body but says he was told he
was “too young” for prostate cancer.

The 41-year-old, whose father fought prostate cancer in his mid 60s, was found to
have an enlarged prostate and was diagnosed with prostatitis, an infection of the
prostate, but it wasn’t until September that he was given an MRI scan.

Tests then revealed a grade nine advanced tumour on his prostate that has spread
to his right leg and pelvis, which a Leeds consultant recommended should be
treated with chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and hormone treatment.’

Thanks Matt I agree , if you look at the bigger picture as President Eisenhower
said the US had no military ind complex before WW11. True Europe and
others had them like Japan & the USSR. But nothing in the scale that the
US developed during the course of WW11 ( The Arsenal of the west ).

While travel and tourism-related stocks have suffered since last Friday’s terror
attacks in Paris, defence industry stocks have seen all-time highs since the rise
of ISIS as investors keep pouring their cash into weapons.

Military Industrial Complex heavyweights had a great opening at the New York
Stock Exchange on Monday, with Lockheed Martin trading 3.5 percent higher,
Northrop Grumman up 4.4 percent, and Raytheon up 4 percent.

Despite French markets being down overall, stocks of Thales, a French
defence giant, were up 3 percent.



The rise of terrorism has been very good for business in the defence sector, and
the post-9/11 ‘War on Terror’ was even credited with driving the American
economy back into good standing.

David Berteau, a defense industry analyst at the Center for Strategic and International
Studies, told USA Today back in 2011 that “We’re about to go into the downhill side of
the roller coaster here,” as the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan wound down.


The rise of ISIS has, however, re-inflated the Military Industrial Complex’s bubble.
Northrop Grumman is trading at $263 a share, up 160 percent from 2013, and
Lockheed Martin is up 150 percent, at $221 a share. Thales stocks were also up
160 percent, at $102.

Meanwhile in the UK, while citizens are being forced to accept devastating austerity cuts,
£1.9 billion ($2.9B) is about to be injected into ‘cyber security’ to counter ISIS hackers.


David Cameron has also announced that £2 billion ($3B) will be spent on British special
forces units, meanwhile British schoolchildren are suffering from a crisis of malnutrition.

How exactly can it be right to force austerity cuts onto the population while making huge
investments into the military industrial complex?If, perhaps, the ISIS threat could not be

Hungary (33.5 %). At the other end of the scale, the lowest shares of persons

Sleeping Outside Is Not Voluntary Conduct: The Homeless Fight Back

‘Fighting back against clueless city officials who evidently believe homelessness
should be even more difficult so it won’t seem so enticing to so many, several
homeless men are suing Manteca, CA. for inhumane new ordinances banning
encampments, sleeping outside in any makeshift shelter or urination in public
– even as the city shuts down public bathrooms – to drive off growing numbers
of homeless people.

The ordinances passed last year in Manteca – which also allow police to break
up said encampments – are part of a wave of Dickensian laws by almost 200
cities aimed at criminalizing homelessness and the desperate poverty that
causes it.

Today, there are laws preventing poor people from sitting or lying on the sidewalk,
having possessions with them, and sleeping in public or their cars; there’s probably
someone working on a law banning the poor from existing, but they’re keeping a
low profile. At least 13 cities have also passed laws hassling other people from
helping those less fortunate than themselves.’
