"In the first half, author and adventurer Robert Young Pelton, who has traveled around the world working with private military contractors, discussed the instability in the Middle East, his work helping refugees, the globalization of borders, various secret wars and conflicts, and the political climate in the United States. There are some 65 million people that are currently displaced from their homes, the highest number since WWII, he reported. Unresolved warfare and economic problems contribute to the problem, and in some places it's actually cheaper to pay a smuggler than it is to fly to Europe, he noted. But the crisis in Europe is quite severe, with some 23% of refugees from Syria and Africa drowning or dying as they attempt to complete the journey, he lamented.

Pelton talked about the mechanics of how ISIS has grown, and is funded. Composed of predominantly young people, armed ISIS members have taken over towns in Iraq and Syria, where they demand money from local governance and oil field operators, and then distribute the cash among their fighters, rather than using banks. They also use a Western Union-like system called Hawala to transfer money, he detailed.

One trend that Pelton has observed is that the US is empowering groups that would normally not have access to a lot of weapons to fight their wars, "and we're not winning those wars." Whether Clinton or Trump wins, he predicts they will both be "war presidents," trying to shore up their divisive support by getting the US involved in conflicts. "Hillary has shown that she has no problem destabilizing Libya or Syria, so I think we're looking at a very different change over the next eight years," he remarked. The US is in a kind of war with the Chinese right now, Pelton continued. "Electronically, the Chinese are insidiously attacking our businesses, our intellectual property, and government bases," he commented."

"In the third hour, cyber technology expert Charles R. Smith talked about the FBI, as being "America's secret police," with a force of covert planes that employ "stingray" electronic surveillance. As uncovered by the North Star Post, the FBI has created around 10 shell companies, and through them acquired about 100 small airplanes that they have outfitted with high resolution and infrared cameras, and cell phone interceptors. These aircraft are flying reconnaissance missions over America to surveil its own citizens, listen in on cell phone calls, and monitor text messaging, he said. Smith was critical of these operations, and considers them to be a major privacy invasion-- monitoring Americans without a warrant."

Photo of fatal wreck goes viral after people claim to see spirit above victim’s body

"STANTON, KY. – A chilling photo taken at the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash in Kentucky is getting a lot of attention online. Many Facebook users say the photo shows the motorcycle driver’s spirit leaving his body.

According to Lex 18 News, the crash occurred in Powell County, Kentucky, on Tuesday evening around 5:30 p.m. A motorcyclist was seriously injured after crashing on Highway 15 near Stanton. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Saul Vazquez of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, says he witnessed the photo while in his truck and took a picture of the accident.

“Zoom in and pay attention to the shadow just off the top of the state trooper hat. All I say is I hope everyone involved is okay!!” wrote Stanton in the Facebook post.

Many people believe the photo shows the motorcycle driver’s spirit leaving his body. Regardless, it’s certainly sparking a lot of conversation.

Vazquez told Lex 18 News that the picture has not been altered.

The photo has been shared thousands of times in less than 24 hours after Vazquez posted it."

Russian satellite's 121-megapixel image of Earth is most detailed yet

"There's been a long history of NASA-provided "Blue Marble" images of Earth, but now we're getting a different perspective thanks to photos taken by the Elektro-L No.1 Russian weather satellite. Unlike NASA's pictures, this satellite produces 121-megapixel images that capture the Earth in one shot instead of a collection of pictures from multiple flybys stitched together. The result is the highest-resolution single picture of Earth yet. The image certainly looks different than what we're used to seeing, and that's because the sensor aboard the weather satellite combines data from three visible and one infrared wavelengths of light, a method that turns vegetation into the rust color that dominates the shot.

An educator named James Drake obtained over 350 full-resolution photos from the NTs OMZ (Russian Research Center for Earth Operative Monitoring), and used them to make several videos showcasing a day in the life of Earth. The satellite takes a full image of Earth from its stationary point over 35,000 kilometers above the Indian Ocean every 30 minutes, providing the material for the video below. The images have a resolution of one kilometer per pixel, and the one you see above was taken on May 14, 2011. Be sure to check a zoomable version of the image here to see the detail for yourself and be reminded of just how tiny we really are."

A time-lapse of Planet Earth, created from images produced by the geostationary Electro-L Weather Satellite. The images were obtained beginning on May 14th, and end on May 20th. The images are the largest whole disk images of our planet, each image is 121 megapixels, and the resolution is 1 kilometer per pixel. They are taken every half hour, and have been interpolated (smoothed) to create this video. The images are taken in four different wavelengths of light, three visible, and one infrared. The infrared light is reflected by forests and vegetation, which appear orange in these images.
