I tried to list mostly unknowns, if your TV is like mine then the broadcast stuff is pretty lame and lacklustre. Good stuff is out there but its hard to find. There are not many good sci-fi's that stand the test of time without looking dated, even seminal movies such as Videodrome(VHS tapes, errrm) and Bladerunner aren't what they used to be, although each time I catch up with one of these early movies I see how much Hollywood/the world has plagiarized them, what some lack in effects they make up for in originality and creativity.
I highly respect Philip K. Dick, he had a window into the future, I believe we are close to a 'total recall' world with VR and settling on Mars is not far off, and the corporate takeover of the world by the rich as depicted in Balderunner is absolutely spot on, this guy was 50 years ahead of his time, don't know anyone else who was so prescient with popular fiction.
In the book 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' everything has been roboticized, people are not needed anymore, nothing is real, even the birds are fake, sound familar? - We are at the dawn of the robot era, whole factories of workers are being replaced, even shelf stackers at walmart are being 'retired'.
In fact a funny list thread could be top 10 people who accurately predicted the future

Dash, I agree about Old Boy. Terrific movie.

Suggest watching Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374546/?ref_=nv_sr_1 One the most beautiful films ever. Simply gorgeous cinematography. An experience rather than a movie. We watch it once a year.

As for books, anything by Ernest Holmes. Life lessons extraordinaire.
