Blue Bloods Friday Night Propaganda
For some reason my husband and I have really enjoyed the TV show "Blue Bloods." For us, it's the big family dinner always with red wine, where all the guys are or have been cops. Tom Selleck suffers through each episode as the current NYPD commissioner with all the harrowing situations that arise.
Last week one of the favorite characters, supposedly a tough ex-cop, gets beat up outside his own home by a bunch of rowdy young men. These young men were drinking on Sid's lawn. They were uncaring, dirty-appearing, sarcastic, bullying, head stomping, and Russian. For some reason Sid didn't fight back. These awful, horrible men knocked Sid right to the ground and had a great laugh pummeling and kicking poor Sid. Later, when the apparent ring-leader is caught, he rats out his group. The actor then portrays a sniveling coward. I guess we're supposed to figure that's just how Russian people are.
The, in another story line the youngest brother cop and his partner witness a large government car coming very close to hitting a man who had just gotten out of his car. The man who almost got hit mouthed off to the government car, whereupon a couple of big men in black got out of the big black car to menace this poor little guy, the one they almost hit.
Turns out one man in black is a DHS biggie, and the other guy is a cop. Those two make up a story about the little guy, in true blame-the-victim fashion. Little brother cop and his partner take exception to the lies, but the big guys tell the honest cops that they HAVE to arrest this victim and charge him with several crimes. They don't want to, but they do, following the direct order. Later, little brother cop brings up this situation with his family and is made to feel like he's an over-educated fool. In the meantime, this innocent man who was arrested on obviously false charges is beaten up in prison for appearing foreign. This storyline plays out with wise old commissioner Tom Selleck telling his naive son that the cop business just isn't perfect. Lying government officials are just reality, so do whatever your are told. And then, the courts will fix everything.
Oh, Man!
Dear hubby and I can't miss drinking our red wine with Commissioner Reagan and his family tonight. Can't wait to see what little messages they'll slip in tonight.
