The US was first in healthcare before the system became for profit. Slowly the country has been slipping ever since. Now we are ranked 17th or so and falling. One could cite many similar examples.

I would be concerned for this country after robots displace many middle class jobs. That will happen in less than 10 years. Then the kaka is going to hit the fan big time.

Brian, I completely agree with you. There really isn't anything in this video that many of us don't already know...what is lacking is a realistic plan to change what needs to be changed, and I see no one on the horizon capable of doing that - certainly neither of the two candidates. Mostly just very discouraging, IMO.

One category that was not mentioned is the percentage of corruption in government.

For the title to be meaningful, it is necessary to define a great country. In my opinion, a country is great when the government is great. A government is great if it cares genuinely for its people, officials of all rankings act responsibly with the principle to serve the people. They are the servants of the people, as it has always meant. With such a government, affluence always comes. It is an affluence that does not come from parasitic on other countries of the world.

Externally a great country always seeks to be in harmony with the Earth and other countries and peoples. When there is poverty or injustice in the other countries, it is ready to extend a helping hand and offer whatever it can give, without the arrogance of claiming to be a great country and of higher morality.

The people of the world always make right judgements. A great country will always be praised by the people of the world.

It takes only one strong great country to make the world a nice and happy place to live, and humanity to progressive both materially and spiritually in a short time.

Its not actually such a bad thing to be top in really, I've no idea if its the truth.

You know most of the Americans I have met and traded with over the years have been really great people, and I really mean that , frankly I find it sad that such a bunch of jokers & bandits are steering them in such a pointless direction.

Entirely agree with you for most Americans, they are great and it is a pity they let themselves (as we all do throughout the world) be led by such crooks.

However, to tell the truth, lots of Canadians who know the USA do pity the middle and lower classes for their jobless situations, not much social protection and no free health care. Each of these items can put a whole family in debts and dire circumstances. And each of those situations are often a fluke of the market or pure genetic luck or again the bad luck coming from being born into bad socio-economic class to start with (like poor health because you cannot feed yourself with quality food - my daughter told me that statiscally, in Montreal, there is a 10 years lifespan difference between those of the rich neighbouhood of our city and those of the poorest, just being born in a poor family shorten your lifespan for 10 years, imagine if you have no acess to medics over and above, as in the USA! )

Scotland's very OK!
I believe out first lady is sincere and does her best for the vulnerable and all levels of society.
I think she has the balance correct--a very down to earth individual.
Many of the best inventions in the early days came from Scotland.
