One category that was not mentioned is the percentage of corruption in government.

Denmark ranks first as the least corrupt government in the world with 92%. New Zealand ranks second with a 91% rating.

Scotland's very OK!
I believe out first lady is sincere and does her best for the vulnerable and all levels of society.
I think she has the balance correct--a very down to earth individual.
Many of the best inventions in the early days came from Scotland.
Penicillin came from Scotland.

The Scots voted to stay in Europe Sue--thats democracy.
There are more people in Greater London than the whole of Scotland--We are in a totally different situation from England.
Most of our income is through the common market.

The main attempts to derail Brexit comes from London.

Yes they would be built possibly in Scotland and maintained from there as is the present version.
I cant help thinking that the money could be spent on better things than more nuclear submarines.
The majority of Scots want none of that.
I haven't voted since I was 18 and not a member of any party or organization.

One of the reason that Scotland is a great country is the level of compassion.

Depends on your definition of corrupt - many swedes have been calling the government criminal for years. The enormous migrant/refugee influx into Sweden has been going on for much longer than the big push into Europe we saw last year.

This article and ranking confuses me really because I see a government (and Sweden is not alone in this ) that sold out a long time ago to the monsters on this planet and against its own people and now much to everyone's detriment.

And all taking place in league with state and corporate owned media to manage the perception and response to what they are doing.

That is corrupt. This level of sell out flows through most governments on the planet.

At the risk of going off topic, I had an a acquaintance that went from being a newspaper editor to racing sailing boats because he fell in love with the west coast of Scotland.

Of course many local and visiting sailors rued that day as he regularly wipes the floor with anyone that puts up a challenge, he even ended up with a nickname because of it.

I often wonder if American & Canadian people get that wide eyed adventure feeing when passing into there respective lands whilst on a road trip, it happens to us every time we pass that Scotland sign when out on a trip.

I have to add my heart sinks when I see the England sign on my return, but sshh don't tell anyone

To Verdilac: Your wondering about Americans and Canadians getting that wide eyed adventure feeling.. while on a road trip....

Are you kidding me? Of course we do, the nature in North America is more varied than you may imagine (I was going to write that you can imagine, but I prefer to remain polite - the reason being that I know myself that much I cannot imagine in terms of nature in North America, it is THAT wondeful).

This is a whole continent, from hot in the Florida keys to cold in the Artic, a good 5 times the size of Europe (probably more). Just to go to the other side of my country, from end to end, takes 5 hours of flying in jet airplane, it is as far as going from Montreal to London UK. The distances are reaaally vast when travelling, most European have a hard time to conceive it.

I had some French friends from France (I am also French speaking but from Canada), who told me that when visiting Canada, they wanted to see Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal by car within their 2 weeks trip. I laughed. This is impossible.

Nature wise, I would think that North America is really truly truly great, breath taking awesome.

It is with the socio-economic demographics that I pity my neighbours in the USA.

I've had many trips to the Lake District and Yorkshire. Sitting on a hill listening to the sheep in the valley on a beautiful day is one of my favourite things to do.

I was born in Canada , and lived here almost my entire life . And throughout my life at an early age , I just had the impression that Canada could do no wrong , and I had a sincere feeling , of different cultures coming together , integrating along the same line . My best friends were 1 , native to this land , Indian ( Pakistanian ) , Chinese , and White . Even my first girlfriend was Black (Cayman Islands @age 7) .
So I'm gonna give Canada props for that , but as I've become more awake , I can't help but notice now that Canada ( government wise ) is just as fluff as anyone else .

Same thing could apply .... not the greatest country in the world .

My thinking is that the Trumpers seized on Daniels' opening statement "America is not great" and ran with it. They ignored the real message because they are, like their leader, impulsive. If they had had the attention spans required to absorb the content, they would have realized (maybe) that the causes of America's decline are much more complicated than D.T. could ever articulate. And they will surely not be addressed with jingoistic slogans and simplistic wall building projects. America needs a hero all right, but Donald Trump ain't it.
