Default Should I Read The Gnostic Gospels?

Check out this short article I just wrote. I know taking any type of stance on this subject or any other for that matter will catch a lot of flak but I hope you can see the heart behind what I am trying to say. Blessings

    Hello Truthseekah.

I read "The Lost Books of the Bible And The Forgotten Books of Eden" (Platt - 1927) in 2009, and I must say that the "Secrets of Enoch" and "The First..." and "The Second Book of Adam and Eve" made a big impression on me, connected dots.

I only recently have heard about Jasher, Macabees and the Jubilees, and both have been very helpful. I do believe that if one is truely convinced of their christian doctrins, one should not be fearful of reading something from the other "side". My father taught me "if you have to fight, you better know your enemy".

I personally treasure my copies of the Apocrypha and often read them. Sometimes something new is revealed to me, which is always why I seek.
"Vision without action is merely a dream.
Action without vision just passes the time.
Vision with action can change the world." Joel Arthur Barker

I don't agree with some of what you wrote but that is your opinion.

I will get to the question. My answer is that anyone who seeks to learn more about the teachings of Jesus and the gospels that have been omitted from our current Bible should definitely read the Gnostic Gospels.

I read the "Nag Hammadi Texts" - very short and easy read!

I also read "The Gnostic Bible" - very difficult and long read. Worth it to me!

Our current St. James Bible has been revised over 400 times! Every time it was revised, something was changed or omitted! I have heard this from a "Doctor of Theology" and a "Doctor of Divinity". Both these doctors are devout Christians and they will not admit the truth behind the revisions. They say revisions were made to make the reading clearer. I don't buy it! Revisions were made because those running the Christian Church did not want followers to know certain very important things.

Anyhow, I recommend that you read the Gnostic Texts and be your own judge as to why so many important teachings have been omitted.

I agree with much of what you wrote. Theyre are books that were taken out and kept from us but to me those gnostics gospels are not them. The are many books that we can refer back to that keep with the same spirit of the Bible and also teach deep spiritual wisdom especially when it comes to dealing with the spirit realm. One of which is the recognitions of Clement which is a great read.

Gnostic Gospels.... We need to ask ourselves WHY did they have to be hidden & WHY are there no original copies of The Synoptic Gospels? It appears "someone" was wanting to control what the public had access to! We might ask ourselves, "To what end?!" That's what this Forum is all about; helping us to find answers to our questions & expanding our outlooks!

Do read the Gospel of Thomas. It is as close as we will get to the inner teachings of Jesus. It is an initiatory document.

I will admit there is a beautiful quote in there but I dont feel it was written by Thomas.

"If those who lead you say to you, 'See, the kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty."
