‘The Revolutionary Forces of Syria (RFS) media office, a major Syrian opposition
media outfit and frequent source of information for Western media, is funded by the
British government and is managed by Westerners operating out of Turkey,
according to emails provided to AlterNet by a Middle East reporter RFS tried to recruit.

The outlet stirred controversy this November when it released a video at the height
of the Mannequin Challenge, a pop culture craze in which people compete for how
long they can freeze in place on video.

The RFS video depicted a staged rescue by the White Helmets, the Western-funded
rescue group that operates exclusively in rebel-held territory. RFS quickly removed

Residents in Syria’s Aleppo have poured onto the streets to celebrate the
imminent declaration of the army’s liberation of the northern city.

Syrian military officials say 99 percent of eastern Aleppo has been secured
so far. Syrian government forces, backed by Russian airstrikes, began the
large-scale offensive to retake Aleppo in July. The operation lasted for
months as foreign-backed militants rejected the government calls to lay
down their arms. Most of the civilians in the city were evacuated from the
city during the offensive. The liberation of eastern Aleppo is a heavy blow
to the terrorists that have been fighting to topple the Syrian government
since 2011. After Aleppo’s liberation is achieved, some 30.000 troops will
be able to fight to regain other parts of their country from terrorists.

Syrian city of Palmyra to Daesh terrorists.

A spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Washington’s
reluctance to work with Moscow contributed to Daesh’s capture of the city.
Dmitry Peskov added that cooperation between the US and Russia would
have probably made the defense against the terrorists more effective.
Daesh once again overran Palmyra over the weekend. This came nine

has said Daesh may have launched gas attacks in Palmyra. The UK-based

Aleppo streets have erupted in celebrations with people waving flags and shooting in the air as reports said the Syrian Army has taken control of the last militant-held areas in eastern part of the city, RT’s Lizzie Phelan reports from the ground.

While an official statement on the situation is yet to emerge from Damascus, a source close to Syrian Army headquarters told RIA Novosti that the army is on the brink of liberating the city.

“The army has begun clearing out the last terrorist stronghold in the Salaheddin neighborhood. The terrorists are firing back and are trying to use mortars,” the source told the news agency. “However, the complete liberation of Aleppo could happen soon, which will be officially announced.”

Meanwhile people have already taken to the streets of the war-torn city in celebrations, RT’s Lizzie Phelan reported from Aleppo.

“All of downtown Aleppo tonight is filled with people celebrating,” Phelan said.

Singing and chanting, “for the Army and President Bashar Assad,” could be heard throughout the city, Phelan added. The reports were also welcomed by celebratory gunfire.

However, sounds of shelling could be still heard in the city, Phelan wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, Ahmad Saleh, leader of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s Ba’ath Party in Aleppo, stated in an interview to Sputnik that “Aleppo is free from terrorists,” noting that although some militants are still battling government forces in the Salaheddin neighborhood, they are “surrounded and will surrender soon.”

“There are only a few hours left until official announcement on Aleppo’s liberation,” he said.

On Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that over 13,000 civilians had been rescued from militant-held parts of eastern Aleppo with the help of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in the past 24 hours. The Center said that over 98 percent of Aleppo had been retaken.

More than 700 militants laid down their arms and surrendered to the Syrian Army, the ministry said, adding that Russian bomb disposal engineers were continuing to demine the neighborhoods in eastern Aleppo that had been freed from terrorists and rebel militants.

Meanwhile, Washington declined Russia’s proposal to delay a ceasefire in Aleppo for several days, with US State Department spokesman John Kirby calling the move “simply not acceptable.”

Washington keeps insisting on the immediate halt of all operations in Aleppo, which, Moscow argues, might enable terrorists to recuperate.

“Rather than accepting the US proposal for an immediate cessation, the Russians informed us that a cessation could not start for several days meaning that the assault by the regime and its supporters will continue until any agreement will go into effect,” he told a news briefing.

Following the recent talks on Syria in Geneva, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said the parties failed to reach a ceasefire agreement “mainly due to the fact that the US insists on unacceptable parameters in terms of a ceasefire which would, in fact, provide full freedom of movement to those who the Syrian forces are currently fighting.”

Kirby noted that although “our [Russian and US] teams are still trying to work this out,” the negotiations are at an “impasse” at the moment.

Commenting on the situation in Aleppo earlier in the day, a leading voice on Syria, Director of the University of Oklahoma’s Middle East Studies Center, Joshua Landis, told RT that recapturing Aleppo from the terrorists was “not the end of the war, but a very important turning point.”

“Aleppo, of course, is the second-largest city in Syria, it’s the last major city that the rebels have a real toehold in. This is comparable, in a sense, to what’s going on in Iraq, where Mosul is under attack, the second largest city of Iraq, and the government forces are pushing out rebels who have occupied that city,” Landis said.

While people celebrated what appeared to be the end of more than four years of warfare in the city, the United Nations’ humanitarian adviser on Syria, Jan Egeland, put the blame on Russia and the Syrian government “for any and all atrocities” which, he claimed, are being committed by “victorious militias.”

Egeland’s claim was followed by a statement from the United Nations, which voiced “grave concern” about the allegations, while stressing the UN “is not able to independently verify these reports.”

Two men involved in the November 2015 Paris attacks have been killed in Syria in a
US air strike, officials say.The men, named in a Pentagon statement as Salah
Gourmat and Sammy Djedou, were members of so-called Islamic State.

A third member of the group, linked to a failed terror plot in Belgium in 2015, was
also killed in the strike on 4 December, the statement said.The three were plotting
attacks against Western targets at the time of the strike, it said.All three were part
of a network led by Boubaker al-Hakim, a Tunisian who was killed in another
coalition air strike on 16 November, said Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook.

"This strike highlights our relentless efforts to simultaneously target ISIL (IS)
members who seek to attack the US, our interests, and our allies around the
world," said Mr Cook.

He said the coalition had successfully targeted five IS plotters since mid-November,
adding that efforts had been aided by intelligence material collected in territory
formerly held by the militant group.

IS militants claimed responsibility for the attacks in the French capital on 13
November 2015, which targeted the Bataclan concert hall, a major stadium,
restaurants and bars.

A total of 130 people were killed, with more than 350 wounded.

Israel's Defense Minister Outlines Plan to Divide Syria and Iraq along Sectarian Lines


Israel's "defence" minister Avigdor Liberman in an article for Defense News penned an
article to explain his regime's struggles in a trobulant Middle Ease.

In a similiar tone to those of the Israeli politicians, Liberman waste no time to call the
legitimate forces of Hamas in Palestine and Hezbollah in Lebanon as terrorist forces.
He says, "The massive convulsions that in recent years have swept through North
Africa and erupted in Syria, Iraq and Yemen and elsewhere throughout the region,
and which have seen the empowerment of semi-territorial terrorist organizations such
as ISIS, Hamas and Hezbollah, represent an earthquake of historic proportions. Multi
-ethnic states such as Libya, Syria and Iraq have descended into chaotic civil wars as
many aspects of the region’s enduring political order, whose origins lie in the aftermath
of World War One, disintegrate."


‘Liberman goes on to draw three conclusions as the solutions for ending the crisis in the
Middle East. The second conclusion is clearly a call to attack the sovereignty of the
independent countries. Liberman says, “many of the countries in the Middle East were
established artificially, as a result of the Sykes-Picot Agreement and based on colonial
considerations that did not take into account the pattern of inhabitance and the deep
sectarian rifts within the respective societies.

Thus, to genuinely solve the region’s problems, borders will have to be altered, specifically
in countries like Syria and Iraq. Boundaries need to be redrawn between Sunnis, Shia and
other communities to diminish sectarian strife and to enable the emergence of states that
will enjoy internal legitimacy. It is a mistake to think that these states can survive in their
current borders.’

A deal to evacuate rebel fighters and civilians from eastern Aleppo appears
to have stalled, with heavy shelling reported in the Syrian city.

A ceasefire was declared in Aleppo on Tuesday and buses brought in to ferry
people out of the devastated enclave.

But fighting resumed on Wednesday. Syrian activists also say air strikes over
rebel-held territory have resumed. The breakdown of the deal, brokered by
Russia and Turkey, is being attributed to demands from the Syrian government.
It is said to be seeking the evacuation of its own injured fighters and civilians
from nearby towns encircled by opposition forces.Eastern Aleppo has been held
by the rebels since 2012. But they have been squeezed into ever smaller areas
in recent months by a major government offensive, backed by Russian air power.
In recent days government troops have made sweeping gains, confining the
rebels to a small pocket of the city.

Social media coming out of Aleppo has gone into overdrive. Well-articulated video pleas alleging near-death snake their way into the mainstream. There’s just one issue: these aren’t civilians, but bloggers and filmmakers – with spots on primetime TV.

And according to the host of RT’s ‘In the Now’, Anissa Naouai, it barely takes an internet search to quickly verify their identities.

The narrative is the same each time: that an all-out genocide is taking place; that the Assad forces are going from city to city killing their own people and taking no prisoners; and that Aleppo’s rebels valiantly look death in the face as they endure alleged Russian bombardment.

RT found nothing to indicate that any of the people appearing in the mobile videos were actual civilians experiencing the hyped 'Russian and Syrian shelling'. Rather, these were everything from bloggers to independent filmmakers who’ve made public commitments to the rebel cause to their thousands of followers on Twitter and elsewhere.
