Dr John Bates' disclosures about the manipulation of data behind the so-called 'Pausebuster' paper is the biggest scientific scandal since 'Climategate' in 2009 when, as Britain's Daily Mail reported, thousands of leaked emails revealed scientists were trying to block access to data, and using a 'trick' to conceal embarrassing flaws in their claims about global warming.

Britain's Mail on Sunday today revealed astonishing evidence that the organisation that is the world’s leading source of climate data rushed to publish a landmark paper that exaggerated global warming and was timed to influence the historic Paris Agreement on climate change.

A high-level whistleblower has told this newspaper that America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) breached its own rules on scientific integrity when it published the sensational but flawed report, aimed at making the maximum possible impact on world leaders including Barack Obama and David Cameron at the UN climate conference in Paris in 2015.

The report claimed that the ‘pause’ or ‘slowdown’ in global warming in the period since 1998 – revealed by UN scientists in 2013 – never existed, and that world temperatures had been rising faster than scientists expected. Launched by NOAA with a public relations fanfare, it was splashed across the world’s media, and cited repeatedly by politicians and policy makers.

But the whistleblower, Dr John Bates, a top NOAA scientist with an impeccable reputation, has shown The Mail on Sunday irrefutable evidence that the paper was based on misleading, ‘unverified’ data.

if politicians/Gov'ts are so worried about climate change due to carbon/auto exhaust emissions (just for starters) why haven't they banned professional/big-money car racing?- these engines cannot be environmentaly friendly...

We are dealing here with a clear case of binary thinking. Climate change has to be right because otherwise it would mean that the big oil lobby is right about ‘denial’, and that would never do. However, the big oil lobby can be right about this issue and wrong about everything else, notably about the way it is trashing the planet, about the way it is squeezing all the money out of the global economy, about the criminal way it has been fomenting war around the world, or about the way it has been keeping the lid on advanced energy technology.

The idea that everything is all lies from start to finish is naive in the extreme. The fact is that the truth is being harnessed in all sorts of ways in service of the reactionary agenda.

10,000 years ago we had a major real cold and long glaciation. The question is how many years are the cycles between 2 major long glaciations? and in between short not too cold mini ice ages ones?

FRom all the graphs below, the conclusion should be we are heading towards a mini ice age, not much to worry about except for starvation in colder climates but in how many years - we may also have an extended warmer climate as it happened after the major glaciation . We are still hundreds of thousands years away from a major ice age it seems

Glacial ages come and go over millions of years. Interglacial periods, like the one we are in now, are typically spaced apart by hundreds of thousands of years. Based on observed patterns, we should be swinging back to an "icehouse Earth." However, since the industrial revolution, increased carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere (largely due to the burning of fossil fuel), are pushing Earth toward a warmer climate. In fact, we now see that this increase in CO2 is warming Earth at a rate ~100 times faster than Earth has seen through slow natural swings.

Carefully examine the graphs below. Notice that the x-axis shows age, so an age of 0 represents something happening today, and an age of 400,000 would represent something that happened 400,000 years ago. As you move to the right along the x-axis, you are essentially looking back in time. You will need to read the graph from right to left to follow events as they occurred in chronological order. The bottom graph shows just the portion of the top graph from the present back to 150,000 years ago.
