Those historic Flat Earthers he mentions in the early part of the video use a type of thinking that is still going strong in the new-age scene today. Not to build a flat earth reality around themselves but for a bunch of other memes.

The first stage is to choose a nice mind-at-rest comfort zone. In their cases it was a pretty crude spin on the bible.

The later stages as excursions out into the battlefield of ideas with stupidly blunt weapons but with a blind determination to invert all losses into victories and build out their 'case' documenting the inversion process rather than the facts that whipped their ass.
