I sense this has been going on for a long long time but keeps on evolving/ developing in an effort to keep one from 'catching on' effectively. After all, how does one catch something that is forever evolving other then to know that it is 'that old' and 'that big'.

The following is from author David Allen Hulse (An Encyclopedic Guide to the Sacred Languages and Magickal Systems of the World). An ogdoad is a system of eight deities, usually but not always four gods and their consorts.

"It is a pergamum incantation bowl, a Gnostic magickal talisman from the 3rd century AD. The outer ring is the 24 letters of the Greek alphabet, and the triple ogdoad that was one model of the Aeons before the 30 world model was developed. The inner ring is the primal ogdoad, the middle ring is the planetary ogdoad, and the outer rings the Sophiac ogdoad. The first 8 letters of the Greek alphabet that begin with Alpha fall to the inner ring, the next 8 to the middle ring, and the outer to the last 8 that end in Omega. The center 8 rings are the 8 additional letters in the 32-letter Coptic alphabet."
