That image above reminds me of the craft out of 'Lost in space' think it was called the 'Jupiter-one'.

Interesting equal sided shape.

I think I know what thing this is on Mars ...
Looking to the left of the image shows that the martian horizon is actually being blocked by (most likely) some part of the rover, with the saucer shaped being a part of that piece that is blocking the horizon. What looks at first glance like the martian landscape in this image, is not.
