why not just cut out the chicken armour apparel and play rugby/ruggers like real men ‘old chap’? 😜
especially when you look at the rates of injury/concussion in US "foot"ball.

Those "real men" get seriously injured WAY less due to the lack of padded/armored costumes; which is hilariously ironic... IMO.

Mini Flash was back from Switzerland 2 weeks ago, noise in the house again. Her boyfriend flew in yesterday, went to pick him up at the airport - he is here for 2 weeks, vacations between two semesters at his Swiss university.

And.... I had organized a surprise birthday party for Mini Flash 21 years. She truly did not know. I do not know either how I could keep it secret lolll.

A bunch of very nice young people at home yesterday, pleasant, chatty, half stayed to sleep home and had breakfast this morning, sooooooo different from the empty nest syndrome. I love this life around.

Paula you might like 'Any Given Sunday' then. Probably the most realistic - and disturbing - football movie I've ever seen.

'Rudy' is great too. Total opposite end of the spectrum. Very inspirational and uplifting.

I am stretched out on my day bed, contemplating the news, listening to the ever increasing amount of sirens on the highway behind the railway line at the back of my house. I can hear and see helicopters moving along the coast, the sounds of which i never settle completely with. I am contemplating two forms of ego, one medical and the other just a healthy sense of self esteem. I love my parents, i love my children.
Consider this....violence breeds violence, repression breeds retaliation and it would be a huge undertaking and cleansing of our society and the world, for that fact, to eradicate this sickness from our souls.
Creeping into our every day life is another type of violence, it is just traumatic and deadly and that is the bombs that explode in crowds of innocent people that we see all to often in our media that is conditioning us into its normality.
This, it would appear, is the violence of institutions, indifference and inaction. This effects every one and undermines the relationships between men and woman whose skins may be a different colour and religious backgrounds. Im thinking about Robert Kennedy. Im upset with how things are run and I am sick and tired of people telling "Life is full of sadness" because i don't think it has to be. I will play my crystal singing bowls and send healing intentions to the planet and to you all. Cede Nullis = Yield to no one !

    Came across this today...

    https://video.nationalgeographic.com...e=relatedvideo

The video had a lovely, calming atmosphere. Love hearing about the trees from the tree people. I wrote out a transcript below, in case that's easier for anyone than watching the vid. (Some people knit... I like to audio-type. Think maybe I was a record-keeping monk in a former life, scribbling in the Book of Kells.)

Iceland Is Growing New Forests for the First Time in 1,000 Years

    Video Description :

The landscape of Iceland has changed a lot in a thousand years. When the Vikings first arrived in the ninth century, the land was covered in 25 to 40 percent forest. Within a few centuries, almost all of the island’s trees were slashed and burned to make room for farming. This rapid deforestation has resulted in massive soil erosion that puts the island at risk for desertification.

Today, the Icelandic Forest Service has taken on the mammoth task of bringing back the woodlands. With the help of forestry societies and forest farmers, Iceland’s trees are slowly beginning to make a comeback. Watch this short film by Euforgen to learn more about how their efforts are working to benefit Iceland's economy and ecology through forestry.

Þröstur Eysteinsson - Director, Icelandic Forest Service, EUFORGEN National Coordinator :

    (Transcript)

“What I love about working in forestry is the chance, every once in a while, to get out of the office and walk in the woods. To see the forests growing, to see that we're actually doing some good is a very rewarding thing, a very satisfying thing. But Iceland is certainly among the worst examples in the world of deforestation.

It doesn't take very many people or very many sheep to deforest a whole country over a thousand years. Iceland used to be much more wooded. The people coming brought sheep and cattle and swine. Land needed to be cleared and their grazing prevented the forest from coming back, and after a long time the thin vegetation cover that's left is susceptible to disturbances like frost heaving and storms in the wintertime. It basically rips open. The soil is exposed in part, it starts washing away or blowing away. That's what we see in very, very large parts of Iceland.

My mission is to support growing more forests and better forests. To make land more productive and more able to tolerate the pressures that we put on it.

There are other needs for forests : biomass, lumber, lots of different things. We started using exotic species because the native Birch simply isn't productive. Knowing which trees to plant is actually harder than you'd think. We plant about 3 million seedlings per year in Iceland. Most people have simply, until now, used what you have. Here in Iceland it's the native Birch. Plant them and you'd expect that they grow. And then the climate changes.

The winters have become milder. Many of the trees that we planted in the 1950s, especially Siberian Larch, are literally dying after several decades of being reasonably good. Sitting there, dead in the landscape, and it's difficult to find the money to do something else with the land. Becomes a problem.

Our aim is to produce the seed that we need here in Iceland - that it will eventually all be of genetically well-adapted material. The genetics of forest trees are important. How much heat they need in the summer to grow, how tolerant they are to drought, when they know to stop growing in the autumn. These are all things that are genetically determined in the trees. And through the years we've found the species that we can use. And now we're selecting individuals that are best adapted, bringing them together in a seed orchard and using their offspring in forestation. The seedlings are produced in modern tree nurseries with greenhouses. They're all containerised seedlings which are very easy to plant, and we produce all of them here in Iceland.

Right now I am optimistic for forestry in Iceland. The trees are growing. People call us at the forest service and say “I've got a shelter wall that I want to build”, “I need some cladding for my summer cabin” or “I want to build a pagan church...” “Can you help us?” And we say “Well yes, we can.”

We're producing wood now, we're producing boards and planks, we have the trees in the woods and we can cut them down. But the forests are growing better than anybody ever thought. People will more and more look at them and say “Hey, this is something that's worth having.”

This is not something that was obvious to Icelanders only a few decades ago. That's a great cause for optimism.”

Some still shots from the video. Beautiful Iceland...

It would be ideal to get to a place where we barely cut them down at all. Once again growing forests rich in diversity that can live to be ancient. Enriching the spirit of the world. With their connection to the earth, and to the heart and breath of community around them.

I sent the fawn rescue video off to friends and family. I lost count of how many times I’ve watched it. It’s no surprise it has over two and a half million views.

I caught this series a couple of weeks back. For those short on time, the first two videos are cuts of the longer version below. The Honeysada Youtube Channel has fun videos. His cat and dogs ride around in his RV.

A deer doe abandoned one of her twin fawns, the fawn had injured leg and could not keep up with the mother.
I do not support keeping wild animals as a pets, but this was special situation. The baby deer was healed and released back to her real mother.

Update: The doe and two her fawns is still around, we seen them through the summer and the autumn.
