On February 9, 1913, hundreds of fireball meteors rained down on North America for no apparent reason. This strange event is known as the Great Meteor Procession of 1913. With typical meteor showers, meteors appear to originate from the same point in the sky called the radiant. But these meteors weren't shooting out from any kind of radiant. Instead, they seemed to be flying in formation and moving horizontally through the sky, parallel to Earth's surface. The meteors were also moving unusually slow, and the procession lasted for several minutes. To this day, astronomers aren't really sure what was up with this bizarre meteor shower.

Saturn shines a bit more than the Red planet Mars at the time.

You’ll find the planets in the southeast as viewed from the Northern Hemisphere (closer to due east from the Southern Hemisphere).

Antares is the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion. It's a red supergiant star and has the volume of hundreds of millions os suns. If Antares replaced the Sun in our solar system its surface would extend beyond the orbit of Mars.

This Record-Breaking Photo Was Taken From 6 Billion Km Away

NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft is now one of the most distant human-made objects, and it just took the most distant photograph ever. The image of an icy rock in the Kuiper belt has had colour added to increase the contrast.

After its visit to Pluto, the spacecraft headed out toward the Kuiper belt on its way to its next target, a Kuiper belt object (KBO) called 2014 MU69. It is now about 41 times as far from Earth as Earth is from the sun. There are only four spacecraft that have ever traveled that far from home: Voyager 1 and 2, and Pioneer 10 and 11.

But New Horizons is the first to send back a picture for so far afield. Its four predecessors did not send back images because their cameras were shut down before they got that far away.

This new SETI approach has resulted in breakthrough technology for applying it to communications with extraterrestrial civilizations.

A month and a half since the groundbreaking front page of the New York Times that headlined glowing auras and black money the Pentagon's mysterious UFO program, The Times website contained a 34 second jet fighter gun camera infrared video of a UFO doing a rotation without losing altitude off the coast of San Diego California during November 2004 training exercises with the USS Nimitz. It was also referred to as the tic-tac video because the UFO was oblong and white colored like tic-tac candy.

The New York Times stressed that the infrared video was officially released by the Defense Department's advanced aerospace threat identification program also known as AAT IP the front page article states quote “the Defense Department has never before acknowledged the existence of the AAT IP program” close quote. Two days after the New York Times had released the Pentagon's 34 second infrared video on Monday December 18 2017 the Washington Post released a 2 minute and 45 second longer infrared gun camera video identified as gimbal which refers to technology the background information states that this longer more sensitive video. quote “means that the date location and other information have been removed by the originating Authority as part of the release approval process” close quote.

Solar Eclipse from Space. Today NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured rare images of an Earth transit when the Earth crossed the spacecraft’s view of the Sun.

SDO eclipse season begins.
During this eclipse season the Earth blocks the Sun for up to 72 minutes each day around 0700 UTC (2 00 am ET). This is also midnight Mountain Time, the timezone of the SDO ground station.

On This Day In Space | 10th February 1958 : Radar Bounced Off Venus By MIT

On February 10, 1958, scientists at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory bounced radar waves off of Venus. At the time, Venus was at a point in its orbit called inferior conjunction, where it is directly in between the Earth and the sun. Scientists beamed a radar signal toward Venus, which was about 28 million miles away at the time. It took about 5 minutes for the signal to bounce off of Venus and return to Earth. This was slightly shorter than they anticipated, which means that Venus was actually closer to Earth than scientists believed at the time.
