Start with Frank Marshall Davis - Obama's mentor beginning when Obama was a 9-year-old. In the following National Review interview note the following:
KENGOR: "Davis did so much pro-Soviet agitation that he was noticed in Washington. In fact, it was the Democrat-run House Committee on Un-American Activities that first flagged his Communist-related work in the early 1940s, when Davis had worked with the likes of Robert Taylor and Vernon Jarrett, the grandfather and future father-in-law respectively of Valerie Jarrett. (For the record, Davis also worked in Communist causes with Harry Canter and David Canter, who would go on to mentor a young David Axelrod in the 1970s. I know, it’s incredible, but I assure you it’s true. I document it very carefully in the book.)"

Paul Kengor, author of The Communist: Frank Marshall Davis, the Untold Story

    A president’s influences

    P
aul Kengor is author of The Communist: Frank Marshall Davis, the Untold Story. Why is President Obama’s mentor worth a briefing now? He talks about this and the president’s record in the White House with National Review Online’s Kathryn Jean Lopez.

KATHRYN JEAN LOPEZ: The Democratic convention didn’t look like a Communist reunion, did it? Why bring up Frank Marshall Davis now?

PAUL KENGOR: It actually looked like a Planned Parenthood reunion. There was, however, the classic class-warfare rhetoric that reminded me — as Barack Obama’s rhetoric always does — of the incessant class-warfare rhetoric of Frank Marshall Davis. The bashing of Wall Street, the rich, the wealthy, “profits,” big oil, corporate executives. All of these were constant themes of Frank Marshall Davis and his comrades. When Obama took his swipe at Republican tax cuts in his convention speech, that was right out of the pages of the Chicago Star — the Communist Party USA publication that Frank Marshall Davis edited from 1946 to 1948. I’m reminded of a Star article from January 1947, titled “GOP would ‘spare rich’ with 20% tax cut plan,” which excoriated Republican tax cuts that “benefit millionaires” and “hurt the poor.”

I might also add that the 2012 Obama campaign slogan of “Forward!” is also on the cover of the May 1, 1948, copy of the Chicago Star that I’m staring at right now. Davis liked that slogan, just as he also liked the slogan “Change.” In fact, Davis’s kickoff op-ed launching the Star, published in the July 6, 1946, edition, touted the importance of advancing “fundamental change” in America. That reminds me of another Obama slogan.

Can I say that Barack Obama learned all of this from Frank Marshall Davis? No, I can’t. But these and many other similarities sure are striking. And that’s just one of the reasons Frank Marshall Davis is so relevant right now.

You don’t ignore your president’s mentors.

LOPEZ: Is your implication that Barack Obama — the president of the United States — is a “Communist” too?

KENGOR: No, it isn’t. I’m very careful about that. To the degree that Davis might have influenced Obama’s policies and ideology, I believe that it was in helping to push Obama generally to the left. In that sense, Davis is another among several radical influences on Obama, albeit a very significant one during a crucial formative period in young Obama’s life — throughout his adolescence. He influenced Obama from the time Obama was nine years old (they met in the fall of 1970) until Obama left Hawaii for Occidental College in the fall of 1979. In Dreams from My Father, Obama shares the parting words of advice he received from Frank Marshall Davis before leaving for college. It was a classic Davis diatribe trashing “the American way.” These were words identical to what I read from Davis in the Chicago Star in the 1940s.

That said, in the book I do carefully consider the possibility that Obama was a Marxist when he entered Occidental College. I interview at great length an eyewitness named John Drew, who was introduced to Obama at Occidental as a fellow Marxist. Drew, who is completely credible, swears this is true and details it exhaustively. I have no reason to doubt Drew. If Obama was a Marxist at that point, I believe (as does John Drew) that Davis would have been the primary explanatory factor.

Needless to say, this would not, by extension, make Obama a Marxist today. It would, however, expose a critical period in our current president’s ideological and intellectual development. That’s why guys like Frank Marshall Davis matter, and merit our attention. The political Left knows this; they just refuse to admit it. If Mitt Romney had a mentor this far to the right, the Left would be all over it. If Mitt Romney had a mentor who was pro-Nazi or even a John Bircher, do you think the liberal media would be ignoring him?

LOPEZ: Have you seen Davis in Obama-administration policy?

KENGOR: I see similarities, for sure. In addition to what I noted earlier, consider these similarities: Frank Marshall Davis advocated wealth redistribution from greedy“corporations” to “health insurance” and “public works projects.” He favored taxpayer funding of universal health care. He supported government stimulus to rescue America from another Great Depression, or what he warned was a looming repeat of the Depression. He wanted to prevent “huge funds” from finding their way into the “pockets” of “Wall Street.” He favored nationalization and singled out General Motors for government action. In fact, he despised General Motors. Frank Marshall Davis would have fully supported Obama’s action with General Motors. No question. He saw the Catholic Church as an obstacle to his policies, plans, and vision for the state. At the same time, Davis argued that Christians should support his ideas and enthusiastically sought the support of the “social justice” religious Left for various causes and campaigns — and they often did just that. The religious Left were easy suckers for the various (concealed) Communist campaigns that Davis and his friends were pushing.

    Here are some more examples:
Frank Marshall Davis did not view America as exceptional. To the contrary, he constantly ridiculed “the American way.” In foreign policy, Davis favored the Russians at the expense of countries like Poland and Czechoslovakia. He insisted that American foreign policy was about “big profits” for big oil. And get this: He despised Winston Churchill.

Are these similarities to Obama all mere coincidences? Perhaps. But they’re remarkable coincidences.

LOPEZ: You don’t really make a Churchill-bust connection, do you?

KENGOR: Frank Marshall Davis would have removed the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office. No question. That would have been one of the first things he did. He loathed Churchill. Does Obama not like Churchill, and, if not, does he not like Churchill because of Frank Marshall Davis? Again, I can’t say so definitively. But again, the similarity is remarkable.

Obama met with Davis often. When they met, it was during long get-togethers late into the night. Davis usually drank during those encounters. He was very political. His politics were very vocal and angry. He despised Churchill because Churchill was anti-Communist and pro-colonial. I can easily picture a young Obama listening to extended Davis diatribes against Churchill.

LOPEZ: What are the most egregious mischaracterizations of Frank Marshall Davis?

KENGOR: I’m appalled by liberals’ portraying him as this merry civil-rights crusader hounded by Joe McCarthy. That’s utter nonsense. McCarthy never came anywhere near Davis. It was the Democrats who called him to Washington to testify on his “Soviet activities.”

LOPEZ: How is this all related to Dupes, your most recent book before this one?

KENGOR: Liberals are dupes for Frank Marshall Davis. Liberals are covering for Davis because Davis was a mentor to Obama. They will go to great lengths to cover for Davis, even framing him as anything but a Communist, which is ludicrous. No one doubts Davis was a Communist. We printed Davis’s Communist Party USA number on the cover of the book — 47544.

In order to protect Obama, liberals, ironically, are using precisely the same lines of defense that Davis and other Communists used in the 1940s. For instance, liberals today claim that Davis was simply advocating civil rights and, because of that, white-hooded racists and fascists pursued him. That’s outrageously false. Davis himself used that defense, though the men he framed as white-hooded racists and fascists were actually Democrats like Harry Truman, if you can believe that. Why attack Truman? Because Truman was opposing Stalin’s Soviet Union, which Davis and other Communist Party USA members literally swore an oath to defend.

And yet, here today, liberals are using those same phony lines to defend Davis. They don’t note or even realize that it was Democrats like Truman whom Davis was castigating. Instead, they simply blame Joe McCarthy and the Republicans. They are once again dupes to the Communist line.

LOPEZ: Why is the questioning of Frank Marshall Davis before the Senate Judiciary Committee notable? Is it of any relevance to understanding the current president?

KENGOR: Davis did so much pro-Soviet agitation that he was noticed in Washington. I document it very carefully in the book.)

Frank Marshall Davis’s pro-Soviet work got so bad that in December 1956 the Democrat-run Senate Judiciary Committee called him to Washington to testify. He pleaded the Fifth Amendment. No matter, the next year, the Democratic Senate produced an official report titled “Scope of Soviet Activity in the United States,” which publicly listed Davis as “an identified member of the Communist Party.”

I should also add that Davis was considered such a potential threat that the FBI placed him on the federal government’s Security Index, which meant that he could be immediately detained or arrested in the event of a national emergency, such as a war breaking out between the United States and USSR.

How relevant is this to Obama today? Well, with this kind of an influence in his background, I can tell you as a matter of undeniable fact that Obama would have trouble getting a security clearance for an entry-level federal job. Think about that.

And the Washington Post wants to tell us about Mitt Romney’s supposed bullying in high school? Well, how about Obama in high school having a mentor who was considered so radical that the federal government called him to Washington to testify on his Soviet activities and even placed him on the Security Index?

LOPEZ: Why did the Catholic Church “deserve a good scourging,” as you put it, in the mind of Frank Marshall Davis?

KENGOR: Davis broke from religion at a young age, becoming an agnostic or atheist, probably an atheist. He always viewed religion, however, as a kind of useful crutch — or “social centers,” as he put it — for many Americans, specifically black Americans.

He did, however, see the Catholic Church as a major obstacle to his vision for the state. Frank Marshall Davis’s worldview was a Communist one. He pushed the federal government to adopt socialist policies, with more and more power concentrated in Washington. He wanted the United States to go the way of the Soviet Union. And Davis understood that the one institution standing in the way most strongly was the Roman Catholic Church. “The Catholic hierarchy,” he sneered, had launched a “holy war against Communism.” Indeed it had — and deservedly so. But Frank Marshall Davis, President Obama’s mentor, fully disagreed, and he would target the Church as an obstacle to his plans to fundamentally change America.

He described anti-Communists like Francis Cardinal Spellman as “hate evangelists” and modern-day “Pontius Pilates” because of their alleged sins of opposing Communism and Stalin’s Soviet Union.

He wrote: “We’ve got to make the plain people realize that those hate evangelists preaching war against Russia are their enemies, and that peace, freedom, and democracy can come only from forcing official America to work in harmony with the Soviet Union.”

Frank Marshall Davis portrayed Communism and the Soviet Union as friendly to Christianity. In a September 29, 1949, column for the Honolulu Record, the Communist Party publication for Hawaii, Davis imagined Judgment Day, where anti-Communist Christians would be called to account for their transgressions. And the Catholic Church especially deserved a good scourging. “The Christian churches, and the Catholic church in particular,” preached Barack Obama’s mentor, “are making a grievous error in their shortsighted belief that the major enemy of Christianity is Communism.” Not only was Soviet Russia not anti-religious, said Davis, but it had saved the world from Hitler’s “anti-Christian paganism.” Really, Christians worldwide should pay homage to Stalin. Instead, they were blinded by their anti-Communist bigotry.

Davis argued that genuine Christians should be Communists or socialists.

Here, as in so many of these cases, Davis, not unlike Barack Obama, was a man of the far left making a bid for the support of the “social justice” religious left — support he usually got. And when the Catholic Church did not accommodate his plans and policies for the state, Frank Marshall Davis, like Barack Obama, simply told the Church that it was wrong and didn’t bend. Imagine that.

LOPEZ: If you could ask Barack Obama one question, what would it be and why?

KENGOR: I would like to know the exact influence that Davis had on Obama. Was Obama really a Communist when he entered Occidental College, as his former classmate, John Drew, claims and details quite conclusively — and, if so, did Davis provide that influence? Stanley Kurtz has shown that Obama actually joined the socialist New Party in the 1990s. That doesn’t surprise me.

Well, if those things are true, and if Barack Obama ultimately repudiated Communism and socialism, then when did he do so, and why? Where was the break? When did his conversion happen? We all have conversions. Very few of us still believe what we believed as freshmen in college. My last book, Dupes, was dedicated to Herb Romerstein, the greatest living expert on Communism in America. Herb had been a Communist in college. He changed. We know about the change. Herb has spoken about it at length. Look at my political hero, Ronald Reagan. Reagan in the 1940s had been a liberal dupe, suckered by Communists. They fooled Reagan into joining actually Communist front groups. Reagan changed — and he wrote about it often, talked about it often. Look at Whittaker Chambers. Look at the last president, George W. Bush. He was an open book in discussing his life change.

Most people who have these conversions talk about them. Obama has never detailed any such change, even with two memoirs written before he was president. Why can’t he and we have a candid conversation about his political, intellectual, and ideological development? What’s his fear? Gee, many conservatives already call him a Communist and socialist. Well, if he genuinely left the far left, why not silence them by explaining the how and why? Other presidents gave long interviews on such things.

I could easily accept the possibility that Obama was once a Marxist and then slowly evolved toward socialism or even modern-day liberalism — if that’s what happened. But his sycophantic media won’t even dare have that conversation. It’s an outrage. Never have we known so little about the background of our president. This is a willful, self-imposed ignorance by our media elite.

LOPEZ: What’s the most important takeaway from your book that you’d like every voter to consider this fall?

KENGOR: Our mentors matter. And more broadly, the crimes of Communists matter. Consider: There were hundreds of thousands of American Communists like Frank Marshall Davis who agitated for the Soviet Union and international Communism. They were incredibly wrong. They chose the wrong side of history, a horrendously bloody side that left a wake of over 100 million corpses from the streets of the Bolshevik Revolution to the base of the Berlin Wall — double the combined dead of the century’s two world wars. And they never apologized. Quite the contrary, they cursed their accusers for daring to charge (correctly) that they were Communists whose ideology threatened the American way and the greater world and all of humanity. They took their denials to the grave, and still today liberals continue to cover for them and curse their accusers.

And now, alas, we have the unprecedented case of a man like Frank Marshall Davis managing to influence someone as influential as the current president of the United States of America — i.e., the leader of the free world and driver of the mightiest political/economic engine in history.
Such figures do not mean that our current president is a closet member of Communist Party USA, but they do matter in the political, intellectual, and ideological development of our president. Such figures should not be ignored.

Kathryn Jean Lopez is editor-at-large of National Review Online.

Report: Andrew McCabe Seeks Immunity Deal for Testimony

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is reportedly in negotiations with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley to be granted immunity in exchange for his testimony on the upcoming Justice Department Inspector General report on the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email probe.
“Grassley, an Iowa Republican, has quietly requested that several former officials appear in front of the Judiciary Committee to discuss the long-awaited internal Justice Department report, which sources say will detail a series of missteps surrounding the Justice Department and FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s handling of classified information while secretary of state,” CNN reports.

“Under the terms of such a grant of use immunity, no testimony or other information provided by Mr. McCabe could be used against him in a criminal case,” Michael Bromwich, an attorney for the former FBI official, told Grassley.

“Mr. McCabe is willing to testify, but because of the criminal referral, he must be afforded suitable legal protection,” Bromwich added.

“This is a textbook case for granting use immunity… If this Committee is unwilling or unable to obtain such an order, then Mr. McCabe will have to no choice but to invoke his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.”

The Washington Post recently reported D.C. U.S. Attorney’s office interviewed fired FBI Director James Comey, in what is being described as “an indication the office is seriously considering” whether former bureau Deputy Andrew McCabe should face criminal charges.

    The Post wrote:
Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz accused McCabe in April of misleading investigators and Comey four times — three of them under oath — about authorizing a disclosure to the media. Horowitz referred the findings to the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.

Lying to federal investigators can carry a five-year prison sentence, though McCabe disputes that he intentionally misled anyone. Comey’s interview, while significant, does not indicate prosecutors have reached any conclusions, and people familiar with the process said it is not surprising given the allegations McCabe faces. A referral from the inspector general does not guarantee charges will be filed.
McCabe’s attorney, Michael Bromwich, issued a statement in response to what he describes as an “extremely disturbing” leak from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“A little more than a month ago, we confirmed that we had been advised that a criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office had been made regarding Mr. McCabe,” Bromwich said. “We said at that time that we were confident that, unless there is inappropriate pressure from high levels of the Administration, the U.S. Attorney’s Office would conclude that it should decline to prosecute. Our view has not changed.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, acting on the recommendation of the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility, terminated McCabe on March 16.

It's upsetting to hear Ryno's and Ron Paul complain that they need to be the ones making decisions such as Tariffs and what expectations to get out of North Korea. Congress can barely work to pass a funding bill never mind things like illegal immigration or any other bill. Nothing would have gotten done without the effort of Pres Trump and now they want to be the onesmaking the decisions it doesnt seem right at all. The only real change will happen is if we give those bas*ards term limits, a longer work week and a volunteer with a stipend no pay and have to go out on the market and get health insurance like the rest of us and give up the expensive Cadillac health plan.

Senate Intelligence Committee Staffer Indicted in Leak Investigation

Probe also targets New York Times reporter’s records

A veteran Senate staffer has been indicted as part of a probe related to the unauthorized disclosure of classified information that has also obtained the records of a New York Times reporter.

James A. Wolfe, the longtime head of security for the Senate Intelligence Committee, was arrested late Thursday, federal prosecutors said. Mr. Wolfe was indicted on charges of “making false statements to special agents of the FBI during the course of an investigation into the unlawful disclosure of classified information,” prosecutors said in a statement late Thursday.

“Wolfe is alleged to have lied to FBI agents in December 2017 about his repeated contacts with three reporters, including through his use of encrypted messaging applications,” prosecutors said. “Wolfe is further alleged to have made false statements to the FBI about providing two reporters with non-public information related to the matters occurring before the [Senate Select Committee on Intelligence].”

Mr. Wolfe didn’t respond to a request for comment. According to his LinkedIn profile, Mr. Wolfe is a 31-year veteran on the Senate Intelligence Committee. He is a professional staffer who has served on the committee under chairmen of both parties.

As part of the same probe, investigators have obtained records from reporter Ali Watkins, according to people familiar with the matter. Prosecutors typically avoid such a tactic because of concerns about respecting freedom of the press.

The Senate this week agreed to turn over documents to the Justice Department as part of the investigation in an unusual resolution that passed by unanimous consent on the Senate floor. Under Senate rules, the full body needs to approve any request to turn over its internal documents to the executive branch.

“The Select Committee on Intelligence has received a request from the Department of Justice for records pertinent to a pending investigation arising out of allegations of the unauthorized disclosure of information by a former employee of the Committee,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement entered into the congressional record.

Ms. Watkins is a national security reporter for the New York Times.

She previously worked at BuzzFeed, Politico and McClatchy where she also covered national security—primarily the intelligence committees on Capitol Hill. Her records were seized by prosecutors recently, people familiar with the matter said.

Ms. Watkins had a romantic relationship with Mr. Wolfe while she was covering the Senate Intelligence Committee for BuzzFeed, according to people briefed on the matter. She didn’t respond to requests for comment.

“It’s always disconcerting when a journalist’s telephone records are obtained by the Justice Department—through a grand jury subpoena or other legal process,” Mark MacDougall, an attorney for Ms. Watkins, told the New York Times. “Whether it was really necessary here will depend on the nature of the investigation and the scope of any charges.”

A person familiar with the matter said Ms. Watkins disclosed the relationship when she joined the New York Times. A spokeswoman for the New York Times said the seizure of a reporter’s records undermines media freedom.

“Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democracy and we believe that communications between journalists and their sources demand protection,” said Eileen Murphy, senior vice president for corporate communications at the paper. “This decision by the Justice Department will endanger reporters ability to promise confidentiality to their sources and, ultimately, undermine the ability of a free press to shine a much needed light on government actions. That should be a grave concern to anyone who cares about an informed citizenry.”

Ben Smith, the editor in chief for BuzzFeed, said, “We’re deeply troubled by what looks like a case of law enforcement interfering with a reporter’s constitutional right to gather information about her own government.”

A spokesman for Politico said Ms. Watkins didn’t primarily cover the Senate Intelligence Committee for the publication and it was aware of her relationship with a top staffer on the panel.

None of the publications that employed Ms. Watkins report being subpoenaed for records.

Information gathered by reporters isn’t protected by law, though several reporters have refused to testify about their sources, prompting standoffs with law enforcement. A New York Times reporter was jailed in 2005 for refusing to testify about the leak of a CIA operative’s name.

The government ended a seven-year standoff with another New York Times reporter, James Risen, over attempts to order him to reveal his sources as part of a different leak investigation in 2015.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions last year promised to tamp down leaks of sensitive government information after President Donald Trump complained that the leaks jeopardized national security. He also criticized Mr. Sessions as “weak” on the issue.

Mr. Sessions said in August that the Justice Department had more than tripled the number of active leak investigations from the number pending at the end of the Obama administration, which brought more leak cases than all prior administrations combined.

“We will not allow rogue anonymous sources with security clearances to sell out our country any longer,” Mr. Sessions said at the time.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has said the department continues to review its guidelines related to subpoenas of journalists.

    • NYT national security reporter Ali Watkins – formerly of Buzzfeed and Politico, came under investigation as part of a DOJ inquiry into Wolfe. Now that’s a Methodical #Takedown. #Leakers #QConfirmations #Presstitutes
    • But this is much bigger than it appears on the surface...
    • There were 4 reporters with whom Wolfe was in contact; two of which were female, one of which was male. And these are, of course, anonymously identified as Reporter 1, 2, 3, and 4.
    • And that would basically be where the story ends, except…
    • One of these reporters has already been outed by their own news organization, why they would do that?)
    • Federal prosecutors seized the records as part of an investigation into leaks of classified information to the news media by a former Senate aide.
    • Ali Watkins. Worked for Buzzfeed. Politico. And NYT.
Here, take a gander at her portfolio:

But what does this indictment have to say about Miss Watkins. About “Reporter #2?

So…. 22 year old Watkins… was shacking up with 53-year-old, married Wolfe…. in exchange for intel… for FOUR YEARS.

They had already had this arrangement going prior to Trump. And when Trump stepped into office, they decided to turn against him.

So this was bad enough that the FBI had already been investigating way back in 2014, during Obama. Wolfe had been caught by the FBI, on film, with his gal pal.v

Anyway, besides clandestine rendezvous, how did these two get away with it for so long?

    • Lets dig a little deeper
After the 2016 election, wealthy donors paid a former Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) staffer $50 million to continue “exposing” Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
    • But really, there was a pattern with Wolfe here. An ongoing pattern, stretching back years and years and years. Stretching back so far… you have to wonder…
    • Who was protecting him?
    • Who would want to strategically stuff leaked to the press?
    • Who would use an underling to accomplish this, and simultaneously allow them to keep their distance?
    • So now we’ve got junior senators, ex-staffers, lobbyists, and committee underlings all pointing back to Feinstein.
    • What about Ali though?
    • Wonder what was on the phone.
    • Watch Feinstein fall. Watch it happen.

    The Conservative Treehouse

The Bigger Story Behind the James Wolfe Indictment…

    Posted on June 8, 2018
    by sundance

It is important not to get so granular we miss the big picture. The indictment of former senior senate intelligence committee staffer James Wolfe is filled with information to highlight a much bigger picture. [Indictment pdf here]

Keeping with custom and a very familiar pattern, you will note the big DOJ/FBI investigative releases are timed to drop when President Trump is outside Washington DC.

Note also, it was the Senate Intelligence Committee where Wolfe worked. CTH has continually stated the SSCI is one of the most corrupt committees in congress. It did not come as a surprise to see the staff from this specific committee leaking secret and top-secret classified information. The committee rots from the head down.

According to the indictment Wolfe was notified by the FBI of a classified intelligence leak investigation on/around October 30th, 2017. From the indictment we see that Wolfe was interviewed and confronted by FBI investigators on December 15th, 2017. After admitting he lied to those FBI investigators Wolfe resigned from his position.

On December 15th, 2017 Wolfe was busted; the FBI had him dead-to-rights. However, the grand jury proceedings didn’t start until May 3rd, 2018; and the indictment was sealed until June 7th, 2018. That means six months of investigative work was taking place between busting Wolfe on Dec. 15th, and indicting Wolfe on June 7th.

On December 15th, according to the indictment, the FBI investigators were aware of four specific journalists, “reporters”, who participated in the leak material. The FBI likely had more to choose from, but selected those four reporters -with specific intents and purposes- during the interview with Mr. Wolfe. The four reporters are not named, but their activity is outlined enough to make it possible to determine who is who.

From the indictment [Note Male-1 is Carter Page]:
    • Reporter #1 is likely Manu Raju of CNN.
    • Reporter #2 is definitely Ali Watkins of New York Times.
    • Reporter #3 is likely Marianna Sotomayor of NBC
    • Reporter #4 is likely Brian Ross of ABC
Accepting there has been a great deal of work on the leak investigation; and accepting the purpose therein; the Wolfe indictment appears strategic in that it captures four of the largest media outlets within the net. Four mainstream media enterprises are now on notice. With more than six months of investigation, and with the timing of the indictment becoming public, it’s likely the FBI leak task-force caught more than just Wolfe.

Wolfe is simply the first to be identified. Suspicion: Wolfe will likely lead to Dan Jones.

More than agree with you mojo. But as far as those with Trump Derangement Syndrome, I'm afraid they are not going to see anything beyond their own noses.

Sure. There will be a small percent that will break out of the shell they've built around their ability to see what is actually taking place. But for the majority, the fog is just too dense for most of these people to put their heads above, or have their eyes see through.

At least for alot of us, Qanon is providing alot of potential insight as to what is actually taking place behind the scenes. Of course, its not spoon-fed, it takes a bit of using our own critical thinking to go down the various rabbitholes in order to discover these things for ourselves.

But for the TDS folks, its like watching a piece of an American iceberg being broken off & left to drift off & swept away into deeper waters by a current that doesn't have our working middleclass interests in mind.

My hope is that a good percentage of them will "wake up" if and when the Awan Bros. scandal and the Uranium One scandal ever come to light.

The Awan trial is still going forward (but of course hardly a peep of it in MSN). My understanding is he's asked for a plea deal. In a way I hope he doesn't get it, otoh he can throw lots of people under the bus beginning w/DWS.

George Webb has indicated that the relationship between Awan & DWS is more than business. He has suspected a romance and even possibly a shared child?!? Don't know about that, but clearly she went to great lengths to protect Imran Awan. Maybe just to save her own skin.

As for Uranium One, that is still on the back burner and I believe will be dealt with when the time is right. Trump has a plan, an order of which problem to deal with at what time. They are all connected and he has to be careful not to pull on the wrong string at the wrong time. He seems to have a good sense for this. If one listens to the latest Praying Medic video posted by Turiya here:

    https://projectavalon.net/forum4/show...21#post1228621

listening to the above video, one gets the understanding of how Trump is dealing with Putin. And oncd Trump truly gets Putin in his corner, then Putin can expose the Uranium One details, which will put HRC & many others on trial as traitors. Will it go that far? Once a string gets pulled, who knows how it will unravel.

Again, I believe (hope) that the connection of the Awans to the DNC will wake many "deep sleepers" up, or at least get them to stir in their sleep. Then the Uranium One scandal will be the final alarm clock.

Yes, first they will react in denial, then shock, then anger, but those of us who have been awake for some time will help guide them in the right direction.

Perfluorooctanic acid, or PFOA, was used to make Teflon and is the most infamous of these chemicals. PFAS chemicals are responsible for contaminating drinking water in dozens of communities and military bases across the U.S. They also show up in personal care products, food packaging, textiles, and even baby products. Because most of these chemicals never break down, some call them “forever chemicals.”

Last week, news broke that the EPA tried suppress a study from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry that found the EPA’s proposed safe level of exposure for two PFAS chemicals, PFOA and PFOS, in drinking water was likely significantly too high.

But the EPA’s actions on PFAS chemicals are just the latest of many EPA actions to undermine chemical safety under Administrator Scott Pruitt’s leadership. Here are 13 of the most egregious ways the EPA has been working to make your life more toxic.

Delayed a damning study on formaldehyde. The EPA isn’t just trying to hide the dangers of PFAS chemicals from the public. The agency has also delayed its release of results from an assessment linking formaldehyde to leukemia and other cancers. Although the study was completed in the fall, top EPA officials have reportedly intervened to delay publication.
Delayed a ban on a deadly paint stripping chemical. Methylene chloride is a highly toxic chemical used in paint strippers that most consumers can buy at their local hardware stores. In the waning days of the Obama administration, the EPA proposed banning it. However, the EPA signaled in December that the ban would be delayed indefinitely. At least four people have died from the chemical since then and more than 50 people have died from it since 1980. Although the EPA recently reversed course and announced it would be taking action on methylene chloride after meeting with victims’ families, many important details remain unknown. The fate of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, or NMP, another toxic paint-stripping chemical the EPA previously proposed regulating is also unknown.
Indefinitely delayed a ban on the “A Civil Action” chemical. Trichloroethylene, or TCE, is a known carcinogen made infamous in the novel and movie “A Civil Action.” It is also linked to various cancers in former residents of the Camp Lejeune military base in North Carolina and it contaminates military bases throughout the U.S. The EPA proposed banning some uses of TCE in December 2016 and January 2017. But in December 2017, the EPA signaled that it would delay the proposed ban on these uses indefinitely.
Reversed a ban on a pesticide that damages kids’ brains. Chlorpyrifos is a pesticide that is also a potent neurotoxin, particularly risky to children’s brains. After a decade of advocacy from concerned stakeholders, the EPA proposed to ban the pesticide in October 2015. Facing a court-ordered deadline, EPA was poised to finally ban the pesticide in March 2017. Instead, the EPA chose to abruptly reverse course and allow the pesticide to stay on the market.
Gutted proposed rules for reviewing chemical safety. In June 2016, Congress passed a historic update to the Toxic Substances Control Act, the country’s primary chemical safety law. In the final days of the Obama administration, the EPA proposed robust, health-protective rules governing how the EPA will choose chemicals to assess and how it will conduct those assessments. In July 2017, the EPA gutted those rules before finalizing them in line with the chemical industry’s priorities.
Rubber-stamped hundreds of new chemicals. The 2016 update to the Toxic Substances Control Act also substantially changed the way the EPA is supposed to assess new chemicals for safety. But in August 2017, the EPA fundamentally changed the way it was reviewing these new chemicals and eliminated a backlog of 600 new chemicals overnight. Since June 2016, the EPA has reviewed nearly 2,000 new chemicals, more than half of which have been approved to come onto the market.
Hobbled a program designed to promote safer consumer products. Safer Choice is an EPA program designed to identify safer chemicals and promote the use of less toxic chemicals in consumer products like cleaners. But in February, the EPA cut the staffing for this program by one-third.
Undermined EPA science. At the end of April, the EPA proposed dramatically changing the kinds of science the agency can rely on to guide agency decision-making. This so-called “secret science” rule would prevent the agency from relying on studies based on confidential medical data – even if those studies are thoroughly peer-reviewed. This proposed rule would threaten the science the EPA relies on to issue air pollution rules estimated to have already saved thousands of lives. The proposed new rule could also undercut Pruitt’s “war on lead.”
Stacked EPA’s advisory boards with pro-industry scientists. Last fall, the agency announced that it would no longer allow academics who have received EPA grants, even if they are leading experts in their field, to continue serving on EPA advisory boards. Because many academic scientists rely on EPA grants, this new rule allowed the EPA to stack its advisory boards with industry scientists.
Filled key positions with industry-friendly appointees and nominees. The EPA has also looked to industry advocates to fill leadership positions within the agency. Nancy Beck, who holds a leadership position in the EPA’s chemical safety office, came to the EPA directly from the American Chemistry Council, where she lobbied for weaker chemical safety regulations. Michael Dourson was nominated for the top post in EPA’s chemical safety office after a long career of doing junk science for the chemical industry. He withdrew his nomination after significant public backlash. Kathleen Hartnett White’s nomination to head the Council on Environmental Quality was also withdrawn after her record of denying the well-documented risks of radiation in water was exposed. Bill Wehrum, prior to becoming the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation chief, was fighting against an Occupational Safety and Health Administration rule to protect workers from silica exposure. Andrew Wheeler, the EPA’s second-in-command, has a long history of lobbying for the coal industry.
Betrayed worker safety. Pruitt’s EPA has also significantly betrayed worker safety. Last week, the agency announced plans to repeal important accident-prevention rules at chemical and fertilizer plants, putting workers and communities near more than 10,000 facilities at risk. The EPA has also delayed, and is considering gutting, new rules to protect agricultural workers – including minimum age requirements for applying pesticides and additional training requirements – that were finalized in 2015. Time will tell if the agency heeds a request to limit the way it considers worker safety when considering whether to approve new chemicals.
Cut funding and staffing. The president’s budget proposed significant cuts to the EPA – including deep cuts to programs that remediate lead in homes, research hormone disrupting chemicals, and clean up bodies of water like the Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay. Additionally, the EPA has put significant pressure on employees to leave the agency with early buyouts, putting the agency at its lowest staffing levels since 1988.
Killed a rule designed to help clean up a toxic chemical in school light fixtures. As many as 26,000 schools may be contaminated with toxic polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, which can leach from caulk, sealants or aging fluorescent light ballasts. In 2016, the EPA proposed a rule to regulate fluorescent light fixtures with these chemicals. However, just days after President Trump took office, the rule was withdrawn from review.
