A Trio Of Bright Planets Line Up Before Dawn : Jupiter, Saturn Join The Crescent Moon

Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus form a straight line above the southeastern to southern horizon before dawn. Of the three planets, Venus and Jupiter are the two brightest. you can also see the bright star Antares, which sits slightly below to the west of Jupiter. The red supergiant star is one of the brightest stars in the entire night sky.

On March 27 to 29 the moon will pass by Jupiter and Saturn in the predawn/dawn sky. The waning crescent moon will pair up with brilliant Jupiter at dawn on the 27th. The duo will fit within the field of view of binoculars. Jupiter ranks as the 4th-brightest celestial object in all the heavens, after the sun, moon and Venus. Even low-power binoculars will reveal the gas giant’s four main moons, also known as the Galilean moons.

On the 29th, look for yellow-colored Saturn perched above the right of the moon halfway up the southeastern sky at dawn. If you have one, don’t forget to train your telescope on the gas giant and bring its famous rings into view.

A new immersive, 360-degree, ultra-high-definition visualization allows viewers to view the center of our Galaxy as if they were sitting in the position of the Milky Way’s supermassive black hole (Sgr A*). By combining supercomputer simulations with Chandra data, the visualization shows the effects of dozens of massive stellar giants with fierce winds blowing off their surfaces in the region covering a few light years surrounding Sgr A*. Blue and cyan represent X-ray emission from hot gas with temperatures of tens of millions of degrees, while the red emission shows ultraviolet emission from moderately dense regions of cooler gas with temperatures of tens of thousands of degrees, and yellow shows the cooler gas with the highest densities.

In part one of this presentation, physicist Eugene Bagashov began his examination of some of the enduring geological mysteries on Mars. Of course, geologists examining the surface of Mars project familiar earthly processes onto the Red Planet — they imagine volcanic eruptions, flowing water and impacts from space as dominant forces shaping the Martian landscape. But countless Martian features defy these explanations. We have proposed that another process, high energy electrical discharge, may have produced some of the dramatic features on Mars — a hypothesis with a growing body of experimental support. In this conclusion, Eugene summarizes some of the most compelling evidence for electrical scarring on Mars and elsewhere in the solar system, including our own planet.
