Sean Cordicon: Trump Retweets Now-Suspended QAnon Follower

On the afternoon of May 31, President Trump retweeted a post from the now-deleted account of Sean Cordicon, a QAnon conspiracy theorist with an internet presence dedicated to QAnon references and religious devotional content.

Cordicon’s YouTube videos open with a reference to “Q” and his Instagram page amplifies QAnon ideas. Cordicon also has a website called seancordicon.com. The heading on the website reads, “The Lord is leading us all / Good v Evil / Q.” On the site, Cordicon writes, “I’ve been in this fight for truth my entire life. Something BIG outside of our realm of understanding is happening to ALL of us & at all times.” Cordicon’s website includes links to other QAnon sites, where a screenshot of the original tweet was uploaded shortly after Trump’s retweet with the captions “Trolling is fun! / Q” and “Oh, ****.”

The tweet reads, “We knew this moment would arrive. / We are the calm before, during & after the storm. / ‘If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, eventually we will have to face the final demand — the ultimatum. And what then?’ / –Reagan”

The quote comes from a 1964 Ronald Reagan speech titled “A Time for Choosing.” The speech was given in Los Angeles on behalf of Republican candidate Barry Goldwater, and it’s credited with launching Reagan’s political career. In response to Cordicon’s tweet, Trump captioned his retweet with a vague, one-word response: “STRENGTH!” It’s difficult to know Trump’s exact meaning.

The screenshot of the tweet also includes the top half of an image of a black family looking at an American flag outside a home. The man has his hands on the shaft of the flag pole, but it’s unclear what action he is taking or the meaning of the image given the ongoing protests for racial justice around the country this week. Praying Medic, another QAnon conspiracy theorist with nearly 350,000 followers on Twitter published a video that they claim was in Cordicon’s tweet. The video includes the shot of the black family and rings like a campaign ad for Trump.

Cordicon’s Tweet References ‘the Storm’, a Dog Whistle  in the QAnon Community

The QAnon conspiracy first appeared on the online message board 4chan in 2017. To paraphrase from the Atlantic’s “QAnon Is a New American Religion,” the conspiracy alleges that a cabal of global elites who commit unspeakable crimes benefit from a “deep state” of political and military agents that abuses its considerable influence. Conspiracy theorists believe that Donald Trump is a hero and mastermind working to destroy the deep state and punish these elites for their crimes. These ideas originate in part from an anonymous figure called “Q” who periodically leaves clues about the conspiracy on the internet.

According to Newsweek, “the storm” is another term to describe the QAnon conspiracy movement. The storm typically alludes to a storm of information and, presumably, of action that will prove the conspiracy true and punish those who have benefited from the deep state. In 2018, Trump made a cryptic remark about the calm before the storm, raising questions about Trump’s meaning given the rising popularity of the QAnon conspiracy and its various dog whistles.

My fellow Americans, my first and highest duty as president, is to defend our great country and the American people. I swore in oath to uphold the laws of our nation, and that is exactly what I will do.

All Americans were rightly sickened and revolted by the brutal death of George Floyd. My administration is fully committed that for George and his family justice will be served. He will not have died in vain, but we cannot allow the righteous cries and peaceful protesters to be drown out by an angry mob. The biggest victims off the rioting are peace loving citizens in our poorest communities. And as their President, I will fight to keep them safe. I will fight to protect you.

I am your president of Law and Order and an ally of all peaceful protesters. But in recent days, our nation has been gripped by professional anarchists, violent mobs, arsonists, looters, criminals, riders, antifa and others. A number of state and local governments have failed to take necessary action to safeguard their residents.

Innocent people have been savagely beaten, like the young man in Dallas, Texas, who was left dying on the street or the woman in upstate New York viciously attacked by dangerous thugs. Small business owners have seen their dreams utterly destroyed. New York's finest have been hit in the face with bricks. Brave nurses who have battled the virus are afraid to leave their homes. A police precinct has been overrun. Here in the nation's capital, the Lincoln Memorial and the World War Two Memorial has been vandalized. One of our most historic churches was set ablaze. A federal officer in California, an African American enforcement hero, was shot and killed. These are not acts of peaceful protests. These are acts of domestic terror. The destruction of innocent life and the spilling of innocent blood is an offense to humanity and a crime against God.

America needs creation, not destruction. Cooperation, not contempt. Security, not anarchy. Healing, not hatred, justice, not chaos. This is our mission, and we will succeed 100%. We will succeed. Our country always wins.

That is why I am taking immediate presidential action to stop the violence and restore security and safety in America. I am mobilizing all available Federal resource is civilian and military to stop the rioting and looting to end the destruction and arson and to protect the rights of law abiding Americans, including your Second Amendment rights.

Therefore, the following measures are going into effect immediately. First, we are ending the riots and lawlessness that has spread throughout our country. We will end it now. Today. Those who threaten innocent life and property will be arrested detained and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I want the organizer's of this terror to be unnoticed, that you will face severe criminal penalties and lengthy sentences in jail. This includes Antifa and others who are leading instigators of this violence.

America is founded upon the rule of law. It is the foundation of our prosperity, our freedom and our very way of life. But where there is no law, there is no opportunity where there is no justice, there is no liberty. Where there is no safety, there is no future. We must never give in to anger or hatred. I’m motivated to add transcripts or particle ones every now and again because the statements and questions I’ve read on the forum are easily understood if they followed even 10-15% of the posts here. It’d be time consuming to transcribe as much as I'd like to. 24 hour days now seem like 12-18 hours.

These days, I have no desire to give an alternative perspective on many threads. I’m angry at myself for choosing not to speak my point of view. I took a lot of lumps growing up and in my professional life for sticking up for those who could not defend nor speak for themselves. In the real world it was worth the risk and pain.

On a forum? It’s a waste of time and energy. At times it’s too surreal and dysfunctional. Perhaps it says more about me. “How much of it is me?” Some of it IS. My wish is for those few to spend a little more time digging out their sh!t, rather than vomiting labels, descriptors and commands on to others. It’s not many, but it’s enough to change the direction and spirit of a thread.

The labels make my head spin. I’d be embarrassed to admit how many times I have to look up the same political jargon used to brand someone different than them; not to mention the harsh descriptors of people that are simply trying to change what needs changing.

It’s a no brainer to post a point of view and leave it at that. Politely engage, learn, expand knowledge base, give thanks, and move on.

The hardest part is to watch the public flogging on another member. The momma-bear is paralyzed in a silent space. No words. Only the ugly images flash continuously. It’s a torture that gives the dark ones delight.

My suggestion to All: please don't feed the beast. Whatever that beast is for you.
