The Pacific UFO Mystery

In the summer of 2000, Neb Borkovich and his sailing companion, Donald Begay, sailed across the Pacific Ocean in a twenty nine foot sailboat. They became eyewitnesses to a series of UFO flyovers throughout their inbound journey from Baja, California to Hawaiian Islands and outbound journey to San Francisco. These encounters transformed Neb into an unyielding seeker of real purpose behind the UFO phenomena.

Leslie Kean | The United States Military's Interest In UFOs

Leslie Kean is an independent investigative journalist and author of Surviving Death: A Journalist Investigates Evidence for an Afterlife. In 2010, her book UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record was a New York Times bestseller. She is also coauthor of Burma’s Revolution of the Spirit: The Struggle for Democratic Freedom and Dignity as well as Henry Hyde's Moral Universe.

Here she discusses recent articles she has coauthored that were published in the New York Times concerning ongoing government interest in UFOs. The Navy now acknowledges that unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) are real, and some officials say the unexplained objects seem to have capabilities beyond our current earthly technology. Additionally, it appears that materials have been collected and are being studied. Much of this interest is highly classified.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980).

Solar Storm Forecast | Our Sun Has Bad Aim With Storms To The East & West

This week our Sun continues to fire solar storms, but with some terrible aim! One in particular that launched to the west of Earth gave us in a beautiful display in coronagraphs. The source of this storm was not visible on the Earth-facing Sun, but it likely came from the filament regions we watched cross through our field of view last week. Sadly, the bright regions that fired the other non-Earth directed solar storms have since fizzled and we are hovering at the low edge of marginal-to-poor radio propagation this week on earth's dayside. We do have another bright region that will rotate into Earth- view in a few days, but it may only give us a slight boost in the solar flux so amateur radio operators will just have to hang in there this week. Meanwhile we also have a remnant coronal hole rotating into the Earth-strike zone over the next couple days that will send us a burst of fast wind. This should give aurora photographers at high latitudes a bit of a show, especially by mid week. Overall. though the storm is expected to be pretty mild. This is good news for GPS reception, which should be good everywhere, except possibly near the aurora. How To Track The Solar Cycle

Understanding the Sun’s behavior is an important part of life in our solar system. The Sun’s powerful outbursts can disturb the satellites and communications signals traveling around Earth, or one day, Artemis astronauts exploring distant worlds. NASA scientists study the solar cycle so we can better predict solar activity. As of 2020, the Sun has begun to shake off the sleep of minimum, which occurred in December 2019, and Solar Cycle 25 is underway. Scientists use several indicators to track solar cycle progress.

2000 years ago it took one of the smartest people in the world years of observation to measure the distance to the moon, but nowadays it’s possible for anyone to measure this distance, and to do so using a powerful scientific tool many people don’t recognize.
Smartphones aren’t just communications devices, they’re packed with sensors and backed up by processing power, and using these I was able to perform a measurement of the distance to the moon on a whim. In the modern world science is not something that’s gated by access to technology, but is available to all. This experiment is a beautiful illustration of how accessible science has become and makes me incredibly hopeful for humanity’s future!

Cygnus the Swan Constellation, also sometimes called the Northern Cross (as an asterism), is a beautiful star pattern to find in the summer months. It is part of the summer triangle asterism. The bright star Deneb, along with Vega and Altair, are the three stars the make up the summer triangle. If you can identify these stars, you can find Cygnus this way. Cygnus also sits within the Milky Way Galaxy. Be sure to look for this brilliant constellation in the summer sky.

Albireo

Albireo is a beautiful optical double star in the constellation of Cygnus. It is represented as the 'head of the swan', and when you view it in a telescope, two stars can be seen...one is blue and the other is orangish-gold. It has been debated for some time about whether this is a binary system or an optical binary. Research points to this being an optical double between the orange and blue star. However, the orange star has binary companion of its own! So when you are looking at this star, you are looking at a triple star system.

On a personal note, Albireo is special to me because I named my cat after this star. He has one blue eye and one golden eye, which is a genetic condition known as heterochromia. Meet him in this video!

Strongest Magnetic Field In Universe Directly Detected By X-Ray Space Observatory

The Insight-HXMT team has performed extensive observations of the accreting X-ray pulsar GRO J1008-57 and has discovered a magnetic field of ~1 billion Tesla on the surface of the neutron star. This is the strongest magnetic field conclusively detected in the universe. This work, published in the Astrophysical Journal, was primarily conducted by scientists from the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany.

NASA Satellites Spot Nanojets On The Sun

In pursuit of understanding why the Sun's atmosphere is so much hotter than the surface, and to help differentiate between a host of theories about what causes this heating, researchers turn to NASA's Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) mission. IRIS was finely tuned with a high-resolution imager to zoom in on specific hard-to-see events on the Sun.

A paper published in Nature on Sept. 21, 2020, reports on the first ever clear images of nanojets — bright, thin lights that travel perpendicular to magnetic structures in the solar atmosphere called the corona — in a process that reveals the existence of one of the potential coronal heating candidates: nanoflares.

The 2020 September Equinox happens on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 13 31 UTC. Although the equinox happens at the same moment worldwide, your clock time will depend on your time zone. For time zones in the continental U.S., this equinox comes early in the morning on September 22 (9 31 a.m. EDT, 8 31 a.m. CDT, 7 31 a.m. MDT and 6 31 a.m. PDT).

Why does Earth have seasons?
The Earth has seasons not because it gets closer to the Sun in the summer and then further away from the Sun in the winter. It does get a little closer and further from the Sun in its orbit, but what really causes the seasons is the fact that the Earth is tilted.

Cyclone Ianos - Karditsa, Greece

Greece's weather agency warned of damage and threat to life as it issued alerts for many areas.

An elderly woman was found dead in a flooded house in Farsala, while a 63-year-old shepherd was swept away and killed in Karditsa.

Authorities said a woman who ignored warnings not to drive into an area near a bridge is also missing.
