The Latest: Battleground Nevada electors vote for Biden
    Published Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 | 9:02 a.m.

Updated 4 hours, 8 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on the Electoral College meeting (all times local):

Electors are gathering in 50 states and the District of Columbia on Monday to formally vote for the next president. Most states have laws binding their electors to the winner of the popular vote in their state. Democrat Joe Biden won the Nov. 3 election with 306 Electoral College votes, while President Donald Trump finished with 232. It takes 270 Electoral College votes to win the presidency.

TALLY OF ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES, AS OF 11:55 A.M. EST

    Democrat Joe Biden: 36

    Republican Donald Trump: 56

    ___

    11:55 a.m.

Nevada’s six Democratic presidential electors have awarded their votes for Joe Biden, becoming the first slate of electors from a battleground state to cast their vote.

As I have been discussing in this thread and elsewhere on the Forum, today is the day that things will start to shape up for the showdown in Congress on 1/6/2021 when the Senate and the House meet to open and count the electoral votes from the 50 states and DC.

So far the GOP electors from Nevada have casts their votes for Trump. No doubt, the Democrat electors will cast their votes for Biden. The Michigan GOP electors are about to cast their votes for Trump. The GOP electors from Pennsylvania, Arizona and Georgia are on record that they will cast their votes for Trump, if they have not yet done so. The Democrat electors of these states will cast theirs for Biden. These are five of the 6 or so swing states where the election was stolen. These GOP electors are now, or will later today be, what are called "unfaithful" or "rogue" electors. (Those terms are offensive and have no justification and find no support in the 2020 election, if they ever did find support in other elections, given the massive election fraud involving, among other things, foreign influence and actors.)

All the electoral votes from the states where the electors went "rogue" will not go to Biden. Having electors' votes split in a state between two candidates provides additional and firm basis for a disagreement in Congress on the vote count from those states. Under the Electoral Count Act once Congress cannot agree on the electoral vote count in a state, counting stops and Congress cannot go on to the next state until the vote count dispute is resolved. (Electoral vote counting is done alphabetically starting with Alabama.)

Art II, Sec. 1 and the 12th Amend. are triggered if and when an electoral vote count impasse is reached in Congress. It appears we are moving closer to an Acting president situation.

The showdown Congress is likely where the SCOTUS gets involved and there will be a showdown there. (I'm guessing, but it may be what the SCOTUS has been expecting and why it has done some housekeeping by declining review of other cases.) Stay tuned.

the GOP in Nevada did indeed assign electors for Trump!

However, they did not send them to the electoral college. Pennsylvania did the same thing.

    see video in post above

it looks like we have moved into the phase he writes about:

Quote Under the Electoral Count Act once Congress cannot agree on the electoral vote count in a state, counting stops and Congress cannot go on to the next state until the vote count dispute is resolved.

Formal Call to Challenge the Electoral College has been made
Rep Mo Brooks of the state of Alabama has called for the Electoral College to be Challenged. He stated:

"in my judgement, if only lawful votes cast by eligible United States Citizens are counted, President Trump has easily won the Electoral College and second term as President.

As such, it is my duty to under the United States Constitution on January 6, if the required ONE Senator will join me, to object to and later vote to reject reject Electoral College Votes submissions from states whose election systems are so badly flawed as to render their vote submissions unreliable, untrustworthy, and unworthy of acceptance."

just takes one Senator to join!!

    Senator contact info by state:
    https://www.senate.gov/general/contacting.htm
    ....
Under the Act, the votes are to be counted in alphabetical order. Alabama is the first state in that order.

The Act further provides that both houses of Congress must agree on the vote as certified by a state. If both houses cannot agree all further counting stops until both houses agree. (Or, perhaps, the SCOTUS breaks the deadlock some how.
Intervention and action by the SCOTUS is becoming increasingly likely.) That is, Congress cannot go on to count the electoral votes of the next state until it has agreed on the votes of each prior state.

So, hypothetically, if the Governor of Alabama certifies the votes for Biden and sends that to Congress, but the Legislature of Alabama sends Congress a competing certification for Trump, or says to Congress don’t certify any votes from Alabama, and if both houses cannot agree on what to do in that event, under the Act all further counting of the electoral college votes must stop. Under this hypo that would be at the very first state to come up to be counted—Alabama.

    Then what? One possibility is:

If by Inauguration Day on 1/20/2021 Congress has not broken the stalemate the Speaker of the House, currently Nancy Pelosi, would become “Acting President” and continue to act until Congress does finish the process of counting every state’s electoral votes and thereby elect the President and VP.

The foregoing is true whether the counting stops at Alabama or some other state. Say, Pennsylvania. In that regard, it is my understanding that the PA legislature sent a letter, signed by 76 members, to Congress advising Congress not to count the electoral votes certified by the PA governor if the certification is for Biden. (76 is 30% of the PA legislature.)

I think this hypothetical will not come to pass. (I shudder at the thought.). But it might. If it does in some form come to pass, Art II, Sec. 1, the 12 and 20th Amendments to the Constitution (and other provisions) and the Act provide the road map for Congress and the SCOTUS to follow.
i hope Alabama stands up to be counted!

Default Re: 2020 Presidential Election—and its Aftermath

    PART 2

    Pelosi seemingly UNAWARE of:

China's Intelligence Law Commanding ALL its subjects TO SPY

so what we are dealing with specifically is this:

1.) On June 28, 2017, in China, the National Intelligence Law went into effect. The law is comprehensive in scope and CLEAR in intent to encompass ALL of its subjects (or slaves .. they HAVE to "obey" .. that is a slave) just TWO points are these:
    • Spying for the state is a duty of the citizens and corporations of China under the law, much like paying taxes.
    • The N.I.L. leaves little room for opting out. “Obstructing the work” of China’s intelligence institutions is punishable and may be a criminal offense.
2.) if WE can easily find this information? it is the DUTY and responsibility of our elected officials, particularly someone serving on the House Intel Committee. (Swalwell) and the Senior Legislator who put him there, Pelosi

3.) if neither Swalwell who served in the House Intel Committee nor his sponsor, Pelosi know that SPYING is not "optional" but OBLIGATORY? can someone explain to me exactly what kind of "Intel" the House Intel Committee deals in?

and how can we assist them IN gathering of rather relevant "intel"?
and yet, at her recent press conference Pelosi states:

"when the committee was informed that overtures were made from a Chinese person were being made to members of Congress, when that was made known to members of Congress? it was over. it was the end of communication with those people (this statement is FALSE please see link to Swalwell)

when asked if there should be background checks for all staff and interns? (in light of what was disclosed about Swalwell) her answer was negative

    her response regarding Swalwell:

    Quote
i have no concern about Mr. Swalwell
    she went on to explain:

".... in terms of Mr. Swalwell, in the Spring of 2015 the Leadership of the House & Committee were informed that overtures from a Chinese person (does she not know her name?)

were being made to members of Congress (the one in question is Swalwell, specifically HER protegee, Swalwell)WHEN that was made known to members of Congress? .. we ALL found out at the SAME time"

wow! first of all, even though SHE has "no concerns?

ok if we get a second opinion?

at this point i think even a fortune teller with just basic common sense and ability to make just simple predictions and rather OBVIOUS deductions might be able to help our Congresswoman arrive at quite obvious conclusions

QUESTION: are there any educational requirements for our Congress i'm wondering? or at least ability to demonstrate "logical" thinking and basic deduction skills maybe?

BREAKING NEWS TODAY: HERE'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

    Mike Pompeo.

For those who haven't yet seen this video, Mike Pompeo talks about the concerns he has regarding the CCP's involvement in the USA's education system. He also talks about what action needs to be taken.

Bumping because the CCP has made it's intentions clear, they want to dominate the world.
Constance you are correct, the disclosure listing 1.95 million Chinese assets was MAJOR, however, my research has tied it to information that was previously known.

it reaches into almost EVERY government that is a viable world power. So the disclosure now, being presented as "new" actually is not

additionally, reports are circulating today of Texas Rangers and US Marshals Raid Solarwinds HQ in Austin. Dominion link down. There is a backstory tied to that which also has MAJOR implications that touch around the world

here's the thing ... it was discovered 7 months ago, and the "spin" being put on it is misinformation. i'm going to do an expose on that tomorrow

for now, i'm posting part 3 of the series highlighting the Chinese influence on the present day politics and politicians who have long been involved

we can forget about Russia being the primary danger for now, Chinese puppeteers have been pulling the strings in America quietly asserting their influence and power longer than we could have imagined

    Part 3

    China's National Intelligence Law

it is impossible for our legislators to come now and attempt to convince us that the threat of Chinese "influence" (takeover) has been unknown. Their focus and use of their citizens specifically for the purpose of gathering Intel and infiltrating ALL levels of government was not even a secret. it became law and was publicized.

Quartz wrote an article that explained:

"In a nutshell, the National Intelligence Law gives authorities sweeping powers to monitor and investigate foreign and domestic individuals and institutions. It allows Chinese intelligence agencies to search premises, seize property, and mobilize individuals or organizations to carry out espionage. It also gives intelligence agencies legal ground to carry out their work both in and outside China. Those violating the law will be subject to detention of up to 15 days, and can be charged with a crime.

The law is the first that governs China’s secret police system, which comprises the Ministry of National Security and the Internal Security Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security. The two government organs, known as guoan and guobao respectively, used to mostly just follow existing ministry documents."

this being the case? here is the NEW logical deduction:

IF ALL Chinese subjectsare COMPELLED TO SPY?

    THEY ARE - SPIES

    it's true ..

no more pretense speculating, no more feigning ignorance

    China COMMANDS them to SPY

they have looong been conditioned to OBEY

THAT is what is taking place WITHOUT QUESTION --- BY LAW

so the right hand guy of Governor Roy Cooper in N. Carolina?

    HE IS
(and we're talking long ties directly to head of Chinese gov)

the guy who Senator Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) employed for nearly two decades as her chauffeur, a gofer in her office and a liaison to the Asian American community?

yes... he was .. old news:

    read here:
    https://nypost.com/2020/07/28/chines...d-as-spy-hubs/

it is now impossible to have an accurate understanding of who our politicians are and the interests their legislation is representing without taking this factor into consideration ... this is a key contributing factor and causal component that has led to the current state of affairs, specifically the election of the President of the United States.

there is a whole lot more, but since our politicians want to flaunt their Chinese "handlers" in plain view, right in our faces feigning ignorance?

at the point that we just need to make a:

    ** PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT **

if you or someone you know,
    currently has an elected official
with a Chinese subject ever at his side?
    please, kindly inform him:

    THAT is a SPY

if for no other reason, so that at least a thousand or so can later say "but i told him" and end their carefully crafted plausible deniability

to put this in CLEARER perspective? NONE of what we are presently witnessing in the events unfolding in this Presidential Election would be occurring in the uniformed, well organized, (and funded) concerted manner if this element was missing

It might, however, be too late to escape consequences for his actions. Even if President Trump is "Nice", it is the people who have been wronged, and have every right to ask for justice.

I can easily imagine that the military will never let Biden put his hand on the bible on the 21st ( the crimes and Chinese influence etc ) and I can almost as easily imagine they will make sure Harris doesn't either, but what happens to the commander in chief of the cleanup force after that date ?

Legally, the military, even if every one of them is dedicated to the cleanup, will need a commander who doesn't order them to stand down.

“The only date in the Constitution is January 20, so we have more than enough time to right the wrong of this fraudulent election and certify Donald Trump as the winner of the election,” Miller said.

“As we speak, an alternate slate of electors in the contested states is going to vote and we are going to send those results to Congress,” he added."

that, of course is right in line with their consistent lie that there was NO FRAUD in an election that seemed to have little else

this time, it is NOT being obediently accepted

I can easily imagine that the military will never let Biden put his hand on the bible on the 21st ( the crimes and Chinese influence etc ) and I can almost as easily imagine they will make sure Harris doesn't either, but what happens to the commander in chief of the cleanup force after that date ?

Legally, the military, even if every one of them is dedicated to the cleanup, will need a commander who doesn't order them to stand down.
i raise that question myself, Satori was kind enough to respond from his expert legal perspective

this is an excerpt of his response:

Quote What happens, however, if one or more of these contested states only sends Congress the Dem electoral votes and refuses to send the GOP votes? This is scenario 4 (and a bit like scenario 2). On its face, Congress would not have competing votes from any such state. Can the GOP electors send their votes to Congress independently of the Secretary of State?

The point I'm trying to make is that there is going to be a showdown in Congress and likely in the SCOTUS under some configuration of facts and legal issues.

As I write this MSM is declaring Biden the winner because he has 270 and more electoral votes. As a matter of law, Biden is not the president elect. The process under Art. II, Sec. I and the 12th amend. and the Electoral Count Act has not run its course.

It is Congress that elects or "chooses" the Present and VP. That does not happen at the earliest until 1/6/2021. Depending on what happens there, the election may go to the SCOTUS.

i tend to focus on the heroes of mankind, so i had not paid much mind to Mitch McConnell until, it appeared that CIA Director Gina Haspel paid him homage and went to him to seek protection when she was excluded from President Trump's Intel Briefing and it was widely speculated that her resignation would be forthcoming.

it was discussed in Post #277 here:
    https://projectavalon.net/forum4/sho...=1#post1393727

Quote the last time she was mentioned was November 10 when she met with McConnell amid speculation of possible firing.

    it was reported that:

"The meeting sent a signal of McConnell’s support for the CIA chief amid news reports saying she and FBI Director Christopher Wray could be on the chopping block ahead of a possible shakeup in the waning days of the Trump administration"
a side unintended, dubious skill one acquires by necessity in researching these topics is that of "interpretation"

my "interpretation" of her visit, was to put McConnell on my radar as a nefarious character of possible treacherous character. It appears that i was correct. This is what this man has communicated:

i did a 3 part series on China, and its infiltration of our government and elected officials, so i was not surprised at what i found when i looked a little deeper, not even deep below the surface:

    meet Elaine Chao, his wife:

TOP CCP officials ... did i mention their LAW to gather intel (spy) that is compulsory? no room for declining?

here are some little known (discussed) facts from Secret Empires:

How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends:

Here, then, are seven Secret Empires McConnell-Chao facts mainstream media outlets have verified.

    1. CONFIRMED: Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao’s sister, Angela Chao, currently sits on the board of directors of the Communist Chinese government’s Bank of China

The Wall Street Journal verified the Secret Empires revelation that Elaine Chao’s sister–who is Mitch McConnell’s sister-in-law–currently sits on the board of directors of the state-owned Bank of China. “Mr. Schweizer also points to the appointment of Ms. Chao’s sister, Angela Chao, to the board of state-owned Bank of China, 10 days after the 2016 election,” reported the Journal.

The Bank of China’s own website lists Angela Chao as a board member.

    2. CONFIRMED: Mitch McConnell and Elaine Chao received $5 million to $25 million from her father, James Chao, whose shipping company Foremost Group does massive deals with the Chinese government.

The New York Post, Politico, the Wall Street Journal, New York magazine, The Hill, and others have all confirmed that James Chao, Elaine Chao’s father and Mitch McConnell’s father-in-law, gave the Washington power couple a “gift” (that’s the way it was recorded on McConnell’s financial disclosure forms) of between $5 to $25 million in 2008. According to the Post, the “gift” had a major impact on the couple’s net worth: “In 2004, current Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife, current U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, had an average net worth of $3.1 million. Ten years later, that number had increased to somewhere between $9.2 million and $36.5 million.”

Beginning in 2007, “just as the U.S. Senate was taking up sensitive legislation concerning China,” Schweizer reports that the Chinese government’s CSSC Holdings, Ltd.—the financial arm of the Chinese government’s military contractor CSSC—named James Chao to its board. CSSC Holdings also added Elaine Chao’s sister Angela Chao to its board as well.

“The fact that both the father-in-law and sister-in-law of Senator McConnell sat on the board of CSSC Holdings is highly unusual, to say the least,” writes Schweizer. “One could say it is unprecedented in American political history. In general, CSSC is a sensitive, critical asset of the Chinese government and operates under a veil of privacy and secrecy.”

    3. CONFIRMED: Since Elaine Chao became Transportation Secretary, her family’s company Foremost Group has ordered 10 massive cargo ships from the Communist Chinese government’s China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

As Peter Schweizer and Jacob McLeod reported, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) in-laws have ordered 10 massive cargo ships from the Chinese government since the senator’s wife Elaine Chao became Secretary of Transportation. Indeed, Politico confirmed that Foremost Group “now appears to be engaging in a brisk period of expansion. Before Trump’s inauguration in January 2017, it had 23 registered ships but since then has added 10 — more than a 40 percent increase in capacity — according to IHS Global ship registry information.”

    4. CONFIRMED: Since becoming U.S. Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao and her father, James Chao, have appeared in at least a dozen Chinese media interviews, including foreign interviews that featured the Department of Transportation symbol and her father’s book.

    As Politico revealed on Monday:

In at least a dozen interviews with Chinese and Chinese-American media outlets since her nomination, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao has appeared beside her shipping magnate father, whose company carries goods between the United States and Asia, and who has given Chao and her husband at least $5 million in the past 10 years.

In many of the videos, James Chao is introduced as founder and chairman of the Foremost Group shipping company, and, in discussing a 2016 biography about his life, speaks proudly of his daughter’s role as secretary of transportation, as she sits beaming by his side.

One interview with New China Press published on April 12, 2017, features the pair sitting in what appears to be the Department of Transportation, with DOT flags in view behind the interviewer. Long portions of the interview are in Chinese, with James Chao talking about his life story, with a copy of his biography on the screen, and Elaine Chao extolling her father’s success story as “lifting the status of Asian-Americans in America.”

The Hill also noted that “In at least one other interview appearance, the Transportation Department flag and the state flag of Kentucky, the state Chao’s husband, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) represents, both appear in the background.”

    5. CONFIRMED: James Chao and his daughter Angela Chao sat on the board of one of the Communist Chinese government’s largest military contractors.

Secret Empires provides painstaking detail of Foremost Group’s involvement with the state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and its subsidiary CSSC Holdings. As the New York Post confirms, “The main goal of the CSSC is to strengthen the Chinese military. James and Angela Chao have both sat on the board of a CSSC offshoot.”

    6. CONFIRMED: Videos uncovered by Politico reveal James Chao on camera with Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao signaling “guanxi”—the Chinese concept of personal power due to relationships.

According to Politico: “One interview with New China Press published on April 12, 2017, features the pair sitting in what appears to be the Department of Transportation, with DOT flags in view behind the interviewer. Long portions of the interview are in Chinese, with James Chao talking about his life story, with a copy of his biography on the screen, and Elaine Chao extolling her father’s success story as “lifting the status of Asian-Americans in America.”

Experts say Chinese business is all about projecting hierarchical power relationships (“guanxi”) to telegraph and leverage connections and status. Diane Wei Liang, bestselling author and expert on Chinese culture, business, and politics, told Politico: “Doing business in China requires a lot of connections. Political connections are normally considered as real advantages for business people. Any business that can demonstrate these kinds of connections sends a very positive message as to how successful the business is and how effective it would be to work with them.”

In the Chaos’ interview with New China Press, shipping magnate James Chao says he traveled aboard Air Force One, talked “business” with President Trump, and is “very, very lucky” to have a special pin (which he wore on his jacket) signifying that he is a guest of the president.

As New York magazine reported on Monday, “in many of the videos James Chao brags about his daughter’s government work and contacts. In one video he describes talking with Trump on Air Force One. ‘The president spent several minutes with me,’ he said. ‘We were talking about business.’”

    7. CONFIRMED: Mitch McConnell and James Chao traveled to China as guests of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and met with former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, a former classmate of Chao’s.

As the New York Post confirmed in its report about Secret Empires, “When Senator McConnell — who took hardline positions against China prior to his marriage — met with high-ranking Chinese officials in 1994, it was not in his capacity as senator, but via a personal invitation from the CSSC arranged by James Chao. McConnell met with Zemin, then the country’s president, and vice-premiere Li Lanqing.”

one of the primary, essential focus of control by the CCP has always been, and will always be, control of information.

the battle is for the mind

i've said before, it is in the mind that affairs are settled ...

without strict adherence to a tightly controlled narrative?
    their success is impossible
    and their demise inevitable

the push to place an electronic gadget in the hands of every person
    was no hapchance accident
but it was never about the "convenience" which was "sold"
    not OURS at least

it was an "essential" component of a carefully orchestrated plan
to take over our government and promote it as the "people's choice"

    WHY?

    the "perception" was NEEDED

because irrespective, of lawsuits, judges, elected officials and their Chinese "handlers",
do you know who will be President?

    the one the PEOPLE CHOOSE

    limits are being tested
    and when those have expired

    the PEOPLE will communicate
    when they've had enough ..

we've been down this road before ...
that's how this country was birthed

Default Re: 2020 Presidential Election—and its Aftermath

    TODAY:

the last time it was invoked, was in Hawaii after Pearl Harbor. it lasted 3 yrs!

"The night of December 7, 1941 was a panicked one in Hawaii. In the wake of Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaiian civilians struggled to understand what had just happened—and to make sense of the announcement that their island was now under martial law.

As military and FBI agents rounded up suspected spies and “suspicious persons,” the army imposed a strict curfew. Habeas corpus was suspended, the military took control of labor, and trial by jury was temporarily abolished. More than 2,000 people were arrested in the first 48 hours alone. Hawaii would remain under military rule for almost three years.

“The Army's readiness to take over every detail of government in Hawaii only hours after the Pearl Harbor attack was in startling contrast to its lack of military preparedness to deal with the onslaught by Japan's air fleet,” writes legal historians Harry N. Scheiber and Jane L. Scheiber.

Military rule meant big changes for Hawaiians. Every person on the island, with the exception of children, was fingerprinted and issued identification papers they had to produce on demand. Civilians were banned from photographing any coastal location. Hawaii’s Japanese Americans, who had long been under surveillance by federal and military intelligence agencies that feared they would side with Japan during wartime, were treated particularly harshly.

At the time, Hawaii was a territory, not a state. The law that established a territorial government in 1900 covered Hawaiians with the protections of the United States’ constitution. Thirty-seven percent of residents were of Japanese descent, including 37,000 Issei (Japanese-born people who were not eligible for citizenship) and 121,000 Japanese American citizens.

Hawaii’s proximity to Japan made it of prime strategic importance, and put the islands at unique risk. But military officials doubted the loyalties of the island’s many Japanese Americans. As the United States sent people of Japanese descent to internment camps on the mainland, it vacillated as to how to deal with Japanese Americans in Hawaii itself.

The federal government couldn’t afford to intern one-third of the population of Hawaii: The war effort needed labor and feared such a move might stoke pro-Japanese sentiment. Besides, the logistics of imprisoning nearly 160,000 people in a territory that was small to begin with seemed insurmountable. And so, they turned the Hawaiian Islands into its own type of internment facility instead.

Japanese-American merchants salvaging what goods were left in their stores, after the attacks on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

“I wasn’t supposed to speak Japanese anymore,” said Jane Kurahara, who was a young girl in Honolulu during the Pearl Harbor attack, in an oral history. “It was almost like a sin.”

“The community was fearful of...being taken away,” recalled Tomoko Hisamoto in an oral history interview. She was 17 when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Her father, a Buddhist priest and Japanese language school teacher, was swept up in an FBI raid soon after the attacks. Though she had enjoyed a thriving Japanese community in the years before the war, under martial law she was shunned by her former friends. “We were totally isolated.”

Many of the period’s rules focused specifically on non-citizens who had been born in Japan. Japanese-born people couldn’t own shortwave radios, gather in groups of more than ten people, or move without requesting official permission. They were labeled “enemy aliens.”

Other facets of military rule applied to all Hawaiian civilians. “Everybody was under martial law and treated equally unfairly because the military couldn’t target just the Japanese, who were so important to the economy,” historian DeSoto Brown told the Huffington Post.

During martial law, the media was censored, and press outlets were only allowed to use English. So were people placing long-distance calls. The Japanese language ban affected schools, which were forced to close. Hawaii’s Japanese population had long been subjected to English-only campaigns, but they had never been successful. Now, pressure to speak only English came from both the military and Japanese groups desperate to prove their loyalty to the United States. “Speak American,” encouraged one campaign.

Though it was not military policy to intern people of Japanese descent in Hawaii, dual citizens, community leaders and suspected spies were rounded up and detained. They underwent military hearings during which they were not told of the nature of their accusations. About 10,000 people were arrested and 2,000 incarcerated, one-third of them American citizens. Others who wished to be repatriated to Japan were held in internment camps in the mainland United States.

“Our daily life in the camp was monotonous and empty; eat and sleep, eat and sleep,” recalled Jack Tasaka, who was interned at Honouliuli. Though many in the camp relished their occasional supervised family visits, he recalled, others hoped their families and friends would not come. “They were afraid visitors might be arrested one after another upon their visits,” he wrote.

People could be arrested and interrogated at random, and hasty, biased hearings were common. According to Scheiber and Scheiber, this policy of “selective detention” had a chilling effect on Hawaiian civilians, who restricted their movements and lived in fear of arrest and harassment.

"My father lived in constant fear of being sent to a concentration camp, as my Uncle Toru Nishikawa had been. Uncle Toru, born in Hawai‘i, was deemed a threat to national security because he was a reporter for a Japanese language newspaper in Honolulu," wrote Jean Ariyoshi, the former first lady of Hawaii, in Washington Place: A First Lady’s Story. "He was locked up on Sand Island and later moved to Honouliuli Internment Camp on O’ahu. His bank account was frozen and his wife’s sewing school forced to close."

The policy had roots in the history of Hawaii as a territory. World War II wasn’t the first time the territory was threatened with martial law, or racked with discrimination and suspicion based on race. In the 1930s, for example, white civilians and military officials had called for martial law after a group of Japanese men were falsely accused of the rape and murder of Thalia Massie, a white Navy wife.

In the 1920s, the U.S. Army developed a joint defense plan along with the U.S. Navy that would impose martial law in Hawaii if the U.S. and Japan ever went to war. Then in the 1930s, the U.S. Army presented the federal War Plans Division with a report that painted “an apocalyptic picture of Japanese-American disloyalty and danger,” according to historian Greg Robinson. Steeped in racist language, the report laid the foundation for the martial law that would be imposed a few years later.

In October 1941, territorial officials in Hawaii enacted the Hawaii Defense Act, a law that gave the civilian governor broad powers but that ensured due process. But the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941 swept those plans under the rug. The Pearl Harbor naval base was attacked at 7:48 a.m. By 3:30 p.m., President Roosevelt had approved the territorial governor’s plan to declare martial law.

Hawaii's governor, Joseph Poindexter, later claimed he had been convinced of its necessity by U.S. military commander Walter C. Short and believed it would only last 30 days. Martial law stripped Poindexter of his authority over the territory and handed it over to military control instead.

As time dragged on, so did martial law. Even after the Battle of Midway in June 1942, which was widely thought to have ended the possibility of a Japanese invasion, military control continued. in early 1943, Hawaii’s new civilian governor and a group of influential civilians petitioned the Roosevelt Administration for an end to military rule. The military strenuously objected, and only agreed to turn over some control if it was allowed to continue its regulation and control of labor.

Hawaii finally got some of its civilian government back in March 1943. But only in October 1944 did martial law end. Even then, though, full control of Hawaii was not returned to civilians. Those designated “enemy aliens” were still ruled by the same restrictions, and the U.S. Army still controlled Hawaiian labor.

Martial law was finally over, but it left a bitter taste in the mouths of many Hawaiian civilians. In 1946, that discontent made its way to the United States Supreme Court. In Duncan v. Kahanamoku, a Hawaiian civilian protested his arrest and prosecution by the military commission for a minor offense during martial law. He won: In the majority opinion, Justice Hugo Black wrote that, “Our system of government clearly is the antithesis of total military rule ...This supremacy of the civil over the military is one of our great heritages.”

Though the case is little remembered today, it was a reminder that Hawaiian civilians had sacrificed their freedoms during the war—demonstrating a loyalty that would become a critical argument for statehood 13 years later, when Hawaii was admitted into the union as the 50th state. "

Default Re: 2020 Presidential Election—and its Aftermath

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) unleashed a fiery statement on behalf of the ’74 million’ Trump supporters during Wednesday’s hearing on “Examining Irregularities in the 2020 Election.”

The senator from Missouri slammed those who are demanding that Americans accept the results of the 2020 election and unite around former Vice President Joe Biden, despite mounting irregularities that have been uncovered since the November 3rd contest.

Citing conversations that he has had with dozens of constituents in his home state, Hawley said, “Every one of them told me that they felt they had been disenfranchised, that their votes didn’t matter, that the election had been rigged.”

“These are normal, reasonable people. These are not crazy people,” he continued. “These are reasonable people — and, by the way, have been involved in politics — they’ve won, they’ve lost, they’ve seen it all. These are normal folks living normal lives who firmly believe they have been disenfranchised.”

“And to listen to the mainstream press and quite a few voices in this building today tell them after four years of non-stop Russia hoax — it was a hoax. It was based on — the whole Russia nonsense was based on, we now know, lies from a Russian spy — the Steele Dossier was based on a Russian spy. After four years of that — being told that the last election was fake and that Donald Trump wasn’t really elected and that Russia [interfered] — after four years of that, now these same people are told, ‘You need to sit down and shut up. If you have any concerns about election integrity, you’re a nutcase you should shut up.'”

“Well, I tell you what — 74 million Americans are not going to shut up,” Sen. Hawley declared.

“And telling them that their views don’t matter, and that their concerns don’t matter and they should just be quiet is not a recipe for success in this country. It’s not a recipe for the unity that I hear now the other side is so interested in after years…years of trying to de-legitimize President Trump,” he added.
