Default Who's your choice for the meanest character in a film ?

I was thinking of this recently. There are some characthers in movies that are tough and bad, but certain characters lack any shred of kindness.

One of my choices is Harlan DeGroat played by Woody Harleson from the film Out of the furnace
Harlan doesnt seem to have a shred of human compassion or kindness for anyone in this.

Senator Palpatine from the star wars sage.

Extremely manipulative and he has clearly chosen the dark side.

Kalifornia from 1993, Early Grayce (Brad Pitt) is a serial killer.

    Storyline
"Brian Kessler, a journalist researching serial killers, and his photographer girlfriend Carrie set out on a cross-country tour of the sites of the killings. Sharing the ride and their expenses are Early Grayce, a paroled white trash criminal, and his girlfriend Adele. As the trip progresses, Early begins to appear more and more unstable, and Brian and Carrie begin to fear that they may have a real-life killer in the back seat of their car."

This character really stuck with me from watching Chitty chitty bang bang as a child.

i know some of these characters, but not all in total. All I can say is see Out of the Furnace. Woodys character does not have a smile of or a moment of kindness or humanity in him.

Another beyond nasty guy is Handley the prison guard from Shawshank Redemption played by Clancy Brown. This guy is a nasty Mo F****r to the thenth degree!

A ha! Definitely one to avoid (But the performance was magnificent.)

Our local organic foodstore has bags of fava beans on sale. I happened to remark on that a week or so ago when I was in. The woman serving clearly got the reference and an interesting and unexpected conversation ensued around this film and its arguably more grisly follow-up

Great thread idea, and an almost impossibly hard one to commit just one character to.

My personal favourite who had precious few if not actually zero redeeming traits, of any kind, may still remain the peerless Gary Oldman in his role as Norman Stansfield in "Leon: The Professional" but is he actually truly scary? Therein lies my problem here

The character is deeply unpleasant and flawed beyond measure. I'm sure I'll remember some others but Dennis Hopper's Frank Booth already mentioned here ranks right up there. (I'm going to go on a trip down memory lane and try to remember some other dastardly swine...)

Tin Tin yes he is a bad bad, ass. No doubt . And great film.

Silent Feathers/ perhas one of the most ruthless of killers ever in a film. But he was charming and cultured as well

Im sticking with Woody, as a scary mountain inbred in Out of the furnace, and a great film as well

The character Hans Landa who plays a Standartenführer in another Tarantino goodie, 'Inglourious Basterds'

Christoph Waltz plays a superb Nazi psychopath and his transitions from English to French to German are effortless.

I Love this scene, the classic 'I know that you know that I know' sort of thing lol.

That was a great film, telling a story of poverty and struggle outside our usual sphere. (US, UK)

The actor was Temuera Morrison, who has actually had a long career if you check out his IMDB profile - not so many main roles though which is a shame. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0607325/?ref_=tt_cl_t2
