Language, culture, self-awareness, and brain size contribute to the dolphin's cognition arena





Animal intelligence is an oft-disputed and highly subjective topic. The discussion sometimes revolves around the smartest dog breeds, just how capable chimpanzees are of acting like humans or what kind of problems an octopus can solve. But dolphins come up again and again as one of the most gifted species on the planet.

In fact, they are sometimes cited as being the second sharpest animals on the planet after ourselves, though it should be noted that Douglas Adams clocked humans just after the marine mammals at third place.

“Man has always assumed that he is more intelligent than dolphins because he has achieved so much — the wheel, New York, wars and so on — while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time,” the science fiction writer wrote in his book So Long and Thanks for all the Fish. “But, conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man — for precisely the same reasons.”

Neuroscientist Lori Marino, president of The Whale Sanctuary Project, who has studied dolphin brains and intelligence for 30 years, does not disagree.

"We’ve always known they’re smart, going back thousands of years. They have culture, they use tools, they have complex societies,” she says, adding that observations of their curiosity go back at least to ancient Greece.

I was most interested in 27 year old hybrid, Charmaine D’Rozario-Saytch’s experience of how she was forced to change into her reptilian self. Entertaining and fascinating… but, hard for me to fathom (at this time). Here’s snippets of the passages.

I was seeking information on the two occasions I shapeshifted into my Reptilian form. One was on a military base and the other was in a cave with three Reptilian beings.

Blue-eyes brings the device to the bed and inserts the two needles into my upper left arm; I can feel liquid pumping in. The sensation is very cold and it seems that the wire coming out the other end of the device is an electrical wire that trails out of the door.

The men begin to talk and I hear a kind of electrical whirring noise. They are speaking about starting something and I have the sense that the liquid that has been injected into my body is to facilitate an electrical impulse inside my body.

The sensation is unlike any other I have felt; I can feel my muscles contracting without me actively doing this. My bones feel as if they are stretching, I want to move but cannot, nor can I speak. My skin feels very tight, as if it’s stretching. I can feel my muscles growing, my whole anatomy changing. My fingers feel as if they’re getting longer. I feel my tail begin to emerge and grow, and my skin changes to scales. Throughout the shift I am laying on my back and I feel a certain familiarity about the change although with an unfamiliar sense of it being forced, taking place quickly and painfully. I can feel my nails touching the bed sheet where they have grown longer. My long hair has gone, my eyes have changed, and I can feel the scales on my skin. I am now in full Reptilian form.

I stand up and see myself in my other form. It feels familiar and comfortable, and I feel good. I notice a full-length mirror to the left of the stairs and look at my reflection. I have dark green scales, yellow eyes with black slits, a muscular body, a tail and increased height and body mass. I feel happy to be in my Reptilian form, but annoyed that the military has forced me to change shape and angry that they are observing me—they do not have a right to. I had not consented to them taking me and forcing me to change shape.

Where Do These Balls Of Light Come From?

Eyewitness:

"The night was partly cloudy and pretty windy but the light seemed not to react to the wind conditions at all. The ball of light seemed to be at about 3000 Ft. altitude and appeared to descend just into the cloud deck and bob in and out, eventually coming to a hover near the bottom of the clouds. ( Estimate 2500 ft.) There was no noise and it seemed to move effortlessly in any direction. The speed seemed excessive for a drone at the altitude it appeared to be at."

"I was at the intersection of McCullom Lake Rd and Richmond Rd in McHenry when I saw the ball of light above McCullom Lake moving at a speed a lower plane would probably move at. It consisted of a single fiery orange glow, mainly round in shape, but the bright area within the round shape was not consistent in its position or intensity. The light continued in an east-southeast direction for about 30-45 more seconds before it became more distant and disappeared; then the sky was completely dark in the place it one was."

Japan Sees Earliest Cherry Blossoms On Record As Climate Warms



Japan's cherry trees are reaching full bloom in record time this year, the national weather agency has said, linking the early sakura season to the world's warming climate.

In the ancient capital of Kyoto, cherry blossoms hit their peak on March 26 – ten days sooner than average and the earliest since the government started taking records in 1953.
